U.S. intelligence says fighting in Ukraine will slow down over winter

Fighting in Ukraine has slowed and is likely to continue through the winter, US intelligence agencies say.

U.S. Intelligence Director Avril Haynes said fighting eased after Russian troops withdrew from western Kherson last month.

She added that both Ukrainian and Russian forces will try to prepare for a counterattack after the winter.

The war in Ukraine is now in its ninth month, and Russia has lost more than half of its conquered lands.
