NECKY EATER: Snake-Necked Turtle Exercises Its Neck While Feeding

This adorable footage shows a little snake-necked turtle exercising its long neck as it gobbles down on some delicious plankton at a Kentucky aquarium.

The images were obtained by Newsflash from the Newport Aquarium, along with a statement that said: "This New Guinea Snake-Necked Turtle is keeping his reflexes sharp as he exercises his neck!

"That long neck comes in handy as it can double as a snorkel, shovel or striker when looking for prey."

The Newport Aquarium is located in the city of Newport, in the US state of Kentucky.

It has been welcoming visitors to come and meet all kinds of aquatic species ever since 1999, according to its official website.

Its first-in-the-world Shark Bridge allows visitors to cross inches above a tank full of sharks on a rope bridge.

One of the rare sights that the aquarium includes in its enclosure is the New Guinea snake-necked turtle, which is otherwise found almost solely within the Western Province of Papua New Guinea.

The New Guinea snake-necked turtle (Chelodina novaeguineae) is a species of turtle that spends most of its life living in freshwater bodies of water and jungle rivers.

It has a uniquely long, serpent-like neck that can sometimes exceed the length of its carapace.

It is classified as 'Least concern' on the IUCN Red List.
