New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Tuesday signed a law temporarily restricting cryptocurrency mining in the state over environmental concerns, making it the first US state to do so. For the next two years, unless a proof-of-work mining company uses 100% renewable energy, it won't be allowed to expand or renew permits. New entrants won't be allowed to come online.
