The goal of Gnostic movements was to awaken the divine spark in each of us, so that it could return to where it belonged. This also solved the problem of evil in this world for the Gnostics. It certainly spares the God Most High the responsibility of our pain-ridden, cancer-filled, war-torn hate filled creation. Rather, it was Sophia and her fall from grace and that dastardly God of this world her first born son that gave rise to our earthly woes.
