Hurricane Ian Slams Myrtle Beach South Carolina | Shrimp Boat on Beach!

Hurricane Ian packed a punch Friday as it officially made landfall in Georgetown. Damage was widespread, especially on the shoreline as storm surge floods the region.

The Pawleys Island Pier, Cherry Grove Pier, Apache Pier and Sea Cabin pier suffered partial collapses due to storm surges. The Myrtle Beach 2nd Avenue Pier also had some damage. Parts of Sea Cabin Pier in Cherry Grove were being swept away in the stormy surge. The waves reached up to 20 feet high, ripping some of the boards from the pier into the ocean. An entire section collapsed.

According to a GoFundMe page raising money to get the boat off the beach, the vessel belongs to Holden Beach Seafood, and crew members were trying to get home to Holden Beach, N.C., before Ian's landfall. The boat, which is used to catch shrimp, experienced engine issues, and the group became stranded Thursday about two miles off the coast of Myrtle Beach. Coast Guard members used a helicopter to rescue the group, but the boat was left behind.
