Beverly at 72 years old, passed on August 28, 2022. In the St. Louis education community, Beverly was a teacher, an administrator, an author, a leader, and a beloved one-of-a-kind. She is survived by her spouse/partner of 44 years, Mary “Jackie” Walsh, her sister, Bernice Honigfort, brother James Nance, nephews Troy Nance, Adam Honigfort, Eddie Engel and nieces Hannah, Tricia Engel, Dawn Wakeman. Her mother, father and sister Barbara predeceased her.

Bev knew from five years old that she wanted to be a teacher. She was accepted in the St. Louis Public School “gifted" program, was taught by Rosie Hauff who has survived her, and whom she considered her “second” mother. Bev graduated from Southwest High School, Washington University (Phi Beta Kappa), got her Masters from Webster University. She took a sabbatical in 1989 when her superintendent suggested she may be “too St. Louis" and went to NYC receiving her Dr. of Ed from Columbia University.

Bev taught at her alma mater Southwest for several years, took her pension money, bought a bicycle and started teaching math at Wydown Middle School in Clayton. She took a sabbatical, went to SBC, and after a year took a $10,000 cut to teach math at Clayton High School. After she returned from NYC she was assistant principal at the high school before becoming principal at Wydown MS. She then facilitated the STL Principals’ Academy at Cooperating School District. She finished her career at Maryville University in 2015, teaching graduate students in education and leadership.

Beverly coached girls sports, played tennis and was in a bowling league for 17 years. Her favorite activities were playing tennis, dancing, laughing, and conversation.. Her favorite vacation place was summer in Cape Cod.
