We’re exploring this with David Toupin, who started off his first business as a lawn mowing company at the age of 13. David’s had entrepreneurship in his blood for a very long time. In his junior year of college, he took a semester off to do some internships and was on his way down the corporate path. Instead, he chose to leave all of that behind to go into real estate. Since then, he hasn’t looked back. Over the last six years, David has acquired over 1,200 apartments and is a key principal in excess of $100M worth of deals.

David has leveraged his experience in property management, financing, underwriting, acquisitions, asset management, and infrastructure management. He also implements value-add strategies for all of his multi-family properties. Today, David is the founder and CEO of Obsidian Capital, a Texas-based real estate firm that helps investors build wealth. He’s also the CEO of Real Estate Lab, a multi-family real estate company and software program that provides market data and insights. David walks us through his journey from buying his first properties to building a real estate empire. He also shares why he decided to switch from single to multi-family.
