1977 F150 with a 3-speed floor shifter. Something isn’t right. Part 1

This is my 1977 F150 with a 3-speed shifter in the floor. What’s going on here? It’s mated to a 300 straight 6. The shifter is hitting the seat and won’t go into gear. Time to troubleshoot but I’m open to suggestions. I had a 73 3-speed 25 years ago and it definitely worked better than this!
