Heroic bystander catches child falling out of a sixth-floor window

Shen Dong of the Chinese city of Tongxiang was walking to work, as he does every day, when suddenly he heard an enormous bang above him. A two-year-old girl had fallen from a sixth-floor window and had her fall broken by the one of the building’s numerous advertising hoardings. He called the police, but before they could arrive, the girl started to fall again. Shen ran forward and caught her in the nick of time.

Shen drove the girl to hospital where, thankfully, she is making a full recovery, having only suffered minor injuries. Mobile phone footage of the fall, and CCTV footage of the catch, have gone viral on Chinese social media. However Shen, when interviewed, was rather humble about his heroic rescue. ‘I’m also a father of children and I don’t want to see any children get hurt’, he said.
