Heat waves are plaguing farms in North America and Europe. The Economist had a front-page story this week warning of “The Coming Food Catastrophe,” complete with a graphic of sheaves of wheat made up of human skulls. “If … the war drags on and supplies from Russia and Ukraine are limited,” it wrote, “hundreds of millions more people could fall into poverty. Political unrest will spread, children will be stunted, and people will starve.”

[15:20] Australia’s New Prime Minister (29 minutes)

Australia has just sworn in a new prime minister—Anthony Albanese—who is a big proponent of climate change. Albanese left out the concluding statement in his swearing-in ceremony: “So help me God.” The removal of such a pivotal sentence comes in stark contrast to Australian Prime Minister John Howard, who 15 years ago stirred Australians to pray for rain in the midst of a terrible drought.
