Our little goat gave us a big scare!

One of our goat kids came down with a bit of a sickness and it really had us worried for a while. Goat pneumonia is no joke, but after a dose of medicine (and a couple days in the air conditioned house) Megan had Minnie Pearl feeling good and back to her usual self.

Three of our four goat kids had very late developing horn buds. Calamity Jane’s were evident at birth, but it took about a month for the other three to come in. It’s important to disbud early to limit stress on the animal, so once we noticed horn buds Megan scheduled a visit to the veterinarian.

About a day and a half after disbudding we noticed the smallest of the four kids, Minnie Pearl, wasn’t acting right, and by the next morning we were concerned. We reached out to our friend Madison, who is a vet student at Auburn University, and she helped us figure out what to do. After a very small dose of medicine to help clear up her fever, and some time in the air conditioned house, Pearl was feeling great and back to her normal happy self.

Later in the video we bring you along as we lead the goats back to the barn; this is probably the most exciting daily activity on the farm because you never know what those little goats will do. Keeton and Riley really enjoy helping, too. It is awesome to see my kids interacting with the animals and I’m so thankful that they get to grow up in this country life. We hope you enjoy keeping up with our family. Thanks for watching.
