Helio Stallion Take Off and Fly-Bys
The Helio Stallion HST-550A takes off from a dirt strip in the Pacific Northwest. It is one of only 18 Stallions built for the US Air Force. The Stallion took its first flight on June 5, 1964.
It was used as a counter-insurgency and interdiction attack utility aircraft known as the AU-24. It was armed with a General Dynamics M197 20 mm 3-barrel Gatling Gun and had rocket pods on the wings.
Helio Aircraft are known for their Controllable Short Take Off and Landing (CSTOL) characteristics. The Stallion has a speed range of 30-200 mph. It can take off and land in 150 feet or less.
