Greek drone footage captures eerie Turkish shipwreck in exotic waters
We fly over an eerie but also beautiful landscape. A Turkish merchant ship, Captain Ismail Haki, has sunk near one of the most dangerous capes in Greece, Cape Malia or Cape Malea. The point where it has "tilted" forever is covered with off-white sand, giving a deep turquoise color that gives a magical result to the already special setting.
Coordinates: https://goo.gl/maps/EAKRGoGLB64RZaWP7
A few words about the shipwreck:
As Mr. Costas Ladas writes: "In the bay of Agia Marina, near Kavo Malia, in Laconia, northeast of Cape Zovolo, sits the cargo ship" Kaptan Ismail Hakki ". A 30-meter boat carrying 578 tons of iron ore seasonal. The ship, for unknown reasons until today, sank on January 30, 1978, almost 100 meters from the shore, at a depth of 12 meters. It belonged to the Deval Shipping Group and was named after the second owner of the company, Ismail Haki, who, when he took over the company in 1952, brought a modern era to the Turkish merchant fleet, converting all of his company's steamships to diesel. Probably, "Kaptan Ismail Hakki" was the first Turkish to be converted to diesel.
The story goes that thanks to the observation of a shepherd who was there at that very time, in Agia Marina, there were no casualties from the shipwreck.
The shepherd lit fires on the only sandy beach in the area, in order to direct the shipwrecks there, thus saving them from their impact on the rocks of Kavomallia. The shipwrecked, as a sign of gratitude to the shepherd for their salvation, donated their boat to the farmers of the area.
The route to reach the beach of Agia Marina, where we will dive, starts from Naples in the direction of Agios Nikolaos. Then to Profitis Ilias, and just before the end of the asphalt, we enter on the left a dirt road quite passable, for conventional cars, to the Petrified Forest. After the forest and just before we reach the church of Agia Marina, we follow the right dirt road that leads to an alley where is the end of our route.
- Special care is needed when preparing us on land, in moving both our own and our equipment, due to the sharp rocks that are around. Fortunately at the edge of the cape there are small stairs that facilitate our entry and exit into the water.
- At a distance of 100 meters from the shore and in a straight line with the natural stream that has been created on the rocks by the sea, the iron carcass of the ship is sunk with its left side on the sandy bottom, with its stern looking at the land and the bow the open sea. The maximum depth reaches 12 meters and the minimum 4 meters, making the shipwreck accessible to scuba divers of all levels, as well as free divers ".
Today it offers an excellent spectacle both from the air and for diving.

Rare drone view of the only fossil palm forest in Europe
Unique in Europe is the fossilized palm forest located at the southern tip of the Peloponnese, in Laconia, near the village of Agios Nikolaos Vion. In a landscape of rare, wild natural beauty, palm trunks and roots (the holes and "bumps" seen in many places in the video) have been uncovered, ranging in age from two to three million years.
According to experts, at that time the climate here was subtropical and there was extensive forest, which was fossilized in a unique way, as the sea level rose and the water covered the trees. The whole area has been transformed into a geological park, with information signs, while in the summer guided tours are organized.
The Geopark of the coastal zone of Agios Nikolaos is included in the Atlas of the Geological Monuments of the Aegean and today claims with strong foundations a place in the Network of Geoparks of Europe.
In the coastal sites of Agia Marina, Korakas and Spitha, the fossilized witnesses of a distant past keep the secrets and codes of their time. The findings of Agios Nikolaos are unique in Europe and of inestimable scientific importance.
Geological disturbances, earthquakes and volcanic activity led to the fossilization of the old flora of the area, millions of years before our era. The organic matter of trees, plants and mollusks was replaced molecule by molecule by solutions of silicon and calcium in a patient process that took place under the sea.
Root nodes that reach a diameter of 1m and a number of fossilized creatures, are preserved today in a large area of the beach of Agios Nikolaos and are a geological museum of incalculable value that occupies its place among the protected natural monuments.
To visit it, head from Agios Nikolaos to the picturesque port of Profitis Ilias. Just before there is a sign that points to Agia Marina and Petrified Forest. We follow the dirt road for 3.3 km to reach the monument of nature. In between and just before you reach the church of Agia Marina you will meet a place with information about this geological park.

Drone footage shows two ports side-by-side, but 2,500 years apart
We bring to light the unknown sunken port of Ancient Eretria, which is only 30 meters from the modern port, but is separated by 2,400 years from it.
This jetty is the western end of the port of Eretria. It is a monumental construction of raw stones that extends for about 600 meters in a direction from NW to NNA. At its NNA end, where the lighthouse of the modern port is located, it faces east for about 55 meters, closing protecting, from the south, the entrance of the port.
The first 300 meters of the construction are covered by a modern jetty which after these first meters runs parallel to the ancient along its entire length.
The ancient construction along its entire length maintains a constant width (8 meters) and is located -86 cm lower than the current sea level. The original construction dates back to the beginning of the second half of the 4th century BC with some reinforcing modifications at the beginning of the 3rd century BC. century.
The first reference of Eretria to the ancient Greek literature is made in the Homeric epics (Ilias B, 537) where together with the other Evian cities it participates in the Trojan campaign.
The city owes its great flourishing to the maritime trade during the 9th and 8th BC. century. The city's trade contacts with the Eastern Mediterranean are close, mainly with the region of Syria, Palestine and Cyprus. Eretria flourishes and great prosperity of the city is placed in the 8th BC. century, a period that participates in the 2nd Greek colonization, together with Chalkida, founding in 775 BC. in the Gulf of Naples the Monkeys (today's Ischia). While in the North Aegean the main colony of Eretria is Mendi in Halkidiki.
At the end of the 8th BC. century the great controversy broke out between Chalkida and Eretria for the occupation of the Lilantian field, which ends with a possible defeat of Eretria.
In ancient Greek literature the memory of an Eretrian sea empire is strong, an echo of the events of the geometric and early archaic period.
The name of the city itself is etymologically explained as a derivative of the noun Eretmon and wants to indicate the "rowing city with its constantly flowing inhabitants" according to the proposal of archaeologist Nikolaos Kontoleontos.
Related to the purely naval character of the city are both the epigraphically documented beginning of the Aeneauts, directly connected with the Eretrian navigation, a principle already active in the 6th century BC, and the cult in the closed port of the Eretrian naval hero Nafstolos.
According to an inscription which was found integrated in a modern wall, in the area of the present port, during the first half of the 6th BC. century Eretria controls with its fleet both the southern and the northern passage of the Evoikos to the open sea.
During the Ionian revolt, Eretria helps the revolted Ionians by sending 5 five triremes as help. This destruction is due to its destruction by the Persians in 480 BC. The city of Eretria participates in the naval battle of Artemisio with 7 seven triremes.
Eretria takes part in the Athenian Alliance from which it renounced in 411 BC. year in which the Spartans destroy the Athenian fleet in the port of Eretria.
After 411 BC. The first community of Evia is founded, with Eretria as its seat.
Between 377- 357 BC. Eretria belongs to the Second Athenian Alliance, while between 341 and 338 BC. the public of Evia is re-established.
In the period of the successors, the control of the strategy of the position makes it the apple of the Dispute for the Macedonian kingdoms.
Important is the historical period mentioned that the city is ruled by the Eretrian Cynic philosopher Menedemos, who ruled the city in the first half of the beginning of the 3rd century BC. .Χ. century until he was exiled in 274 BC.
In 198 BC. the city is occupied and destroyed by the Leucian brother of the Roman Titus Quintus Flaminus, victor of Pydna.
Flamininos gives the city partial independence and re-establishes the Evia public, in which Eretria also participates.
The city, although it does not maintain its original prosperity, continues to exist until the 7th AD. century in the same place, a period when the fear of pirates pushes the inhabitants to move it inland, to the security offered by the wooded slopes of Mount Eretria.
In 87 BC. Eretria allied with Mithridates and was completely destroyed for the second time by the Romans in 86 BC.

Drone Captures Greek Island's Hidden Gem
Enjoy a flight over White Beach, or Hawaii as the locals call it. It's located in Chalkidiki, on the second leg (Sithonia) and more specifically on the island of Diaporos, opposite Vourvourou. On your next visit to Chalkidiki, do not miss to visit it and enjoy the white sand, its elaborate rocks and its shallow, crystal clear waters.
This bird’s eye perspective gives the viewer the perfect sight of this pristine landscape and waterfront. Few people can say they have ever seen such a beautiful natural sight. Greece is known for its historical tributes that tourists flock to from all over the world. The entire country is entrenched with history, and there are endless sights to visit and learn about. However, the history is not the only rich thing here that brings in massive numbers of tourists, because the other aspect that this place is known for is its naturalistic beauty. This is obviously evident in this video.
Watching this video can almost make you feel like you are there in the chopper, floating over this beautiful landscape. Places such as this one are destinations that people crave to visit because of the relaxing effect it has on our minds and bodies. The old saying of “no one needs a vacation like the man who just came back from vacation” may be true for many places and many different activities, but we are hard pressed to say that no one could go back home after visiting this site in any sort of tension. The water is so unbelievably clear that it almost looks like a special effect that cannot be real, but of course, it is real.
Sit back and try to just take in this beauty. It will give you a momentary escape from whatever else is going on around you. Even the background music here adds to this feeling of intense tranquility. It is definitely fitting to this sighting. The video also shows a few groups and families out on the water in their boats enjoying the incredible surroundings. Even the rock formations on the edges of the water are beautifully constructed. Another interesting feature for this particular destination is the weather and temperatures. This part of the world has a beach like setting, but it does not always have the intense heat and humidity that other tropical looking places will have. That makes this a very attractive tourist spot for many visiting families to travel to. Visitors can enjoy the beauty and serenity of a beachy, tropical paradise, and they can also have a few other days in this beautiful country to visit all of the historical sites. These are among some of the oldest in the world, so it is always recommended to tourists that they try to do both. Have a few days of amazement and excitement in the cities, and then spend the last half of your vacation on the beautiful beaches. You are sure to go back home relaxed. Do not forget to take pictures either, because all of your friends are going to be jealous.

Ancient port of Corinth, Greece captured by drone
What did the ancient Greeks do to cross the narrow land of the Corinth Canal from the Saronic to the Corinthian Gulf and vice versa? They used these two ports (Lecheon in the Corinthian and the Kechreai in the Saronic Gulf) and gouged ships ashore where pulled by mechanical means on a path named Diolkos. At the port of Lechaio you can see the internal port (this dry lake in the form of a swan. The "eye" of the swan is the lighthouse/fortress ruins) and the Basilica of St. Leonides (5th cent. AD), which is the largest in the Balkans and was destroyed by an earthquake. At the port of Kechreai you can see both submerged artificial breakwaters with ruins of buildings. The Apostle Paul has sailed at this port when he visited Corinth.

Drone captures majestic cave in Corinth, Greece
There is a special place in Corinth, which does not look like any other. The vertical rocks of the coastline near the village of Strava Korinthias are interrupted by a natural, stone, huge arch. Entering the arch, on the right, there is a cave that is home to a magnificent beach with fine white pebbles that give the water the turquoise color.
The beach and arch are a real "monument of nature" that we have never met elsewhere in Greece. Due to the fact that the beach is in the cave, the sun never "sees" it, so it's always cool and you don’t have to wear sunscreen!
Access is possible either by boat or by a difficult path that is small in length. Enjoy the flight!

The most private beach of Greece
Enjoy a flight over Greece's most private beach, where tranquility meets the ultimate natural beauty.
This is the beach "Apaggio" (GPS position at the end of the text) which is a deep and narrow natural fjord, in the background of which there is white sand with turquoise, warm waters. Around the beach and beneath the rocks that make up it, there are numerous residential caves, reminiscent of the Matala of Crete.
Indeed, in several caves there are foreign-language inscriptions from the "Robinson Crusoe's" that once inhabited them. On the rocks around the caves is caper, which hangs like a "curtain".
The area is sparsely populated and reminiscent of a peculiar desert, with little vegetation and people. In short, it is the ultimate turquoise retreat.
Access is easy with a dirt road.
The beach is always protected by the winds of Cavo Malea, which are known for their harshness. Characteristic is the phrase of the ancient geographer Strabo: if you decide to pass Malea forget the you have a family).
If you visit it you will experience its special beauty and be amazed by the well-kept secrets of our Greece.

Rare drone footage of the oldest submerged city in the World
A flight in time and at the same time in the exotic Greek colors. The ultimate turquoise blends in with the world's oldest city. All this, in Laconia, in the Strait of Elafonissos, Greece.
Next to Punta Lakonia is Pavlopetri, which is a small island opposite Elafonissos.
In the wider area there are archaeological finds that testify to the habitation of the area since ancient times. Between the islet and the shore lies an ancient city, submerged a few meters below the surface, about 5 millennia old. It is unique in its kind as it has a concrete design with streets, buildings and a cemetery. Discovered in 1967 by Nicholas Flemming and mapped in 1968 by a team from the University of Cambridge. There are at least 15 buildings at a depth of 3 to 4 meters and recent surveys of 2009 have revealed that it extends to 9 acres. Initially it was estimated that the city was built around 1600-1100 BC. but later investigations revealed through findings that the city was inhabited before 2800 BC, at the beginning of the Bronze Age. It is believed that the city sank in 1000 BC.

Ghost village of Greece as seen by drone
Undeveloped stone houses, old temples, remnants of another era that testify that once, this village was full of life.
The old village of Plagia is located on the north-west side of Xiromeros, opposite Lefkada Island. Its inhabitants abandoned it after the 1966 earthquake and landslides, and relocated to the new Plagia village.
The houses that you will see in the video below were similarly architectural with the houses in the villages of Lefkada. It is worth noting that such houses aren't met in the area, which makes us think that this particular village could be a model traditional settlement, very close to the sea.
The area is characterized by its beautiful nature. Buds, figs and many almonds are scattered between the ruins.

Exotic drone footage of the largest beach in Athens, Greece
Just 45 minutes from Athens International Airport, we fly over Schinias Beach, a really beautiful and spacious beach of Athens.
Kilometers of golden sand combine with a unique ecosystem and pine forest and create what is called "Schinias National Park".
The area is a popular destination for the residents of Athens during the summer months and from the video it is very easy to understand why.
A few words about the area:
Schinias or Schinias is a coastal area of northeastern Attica and a small settlement. It is located at the northeastern end of the plain of Marathon, in the coastal zone, and has one of the largest beaches in Attica. In the area of Schinias, swamps are formed which are an important wetland. Schinias also has one of the largest pine forests in Greece (Schinias together with the forest of Strofilia in Achaia and the forest Koukounaria in Skiathos are the most important pine forests in Greece).
From time to time it has been used for filming (eg in 1971 in the film Abuse of Power with Nikos Kourkoulos, where the film finale takes place in Schinias and in 2008 in the film I4 - Loofah and Discharge, where the camp on the island of plot, located in the forest of Schinias)
Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou loved the beach of Schinias and often started his day with a swim there, very early in the morning before going to his office.
Enjoy the flight!
