Described in the Ordnance Survey Name Books as a 'neat modern building', the house was located close to the bank of the River Suck. It was the home of Gonville ffrench and he held it from the D'Arcy family. In the D'Arcy sales rental of May 1851 there is reference to 'the splendid mansion' of Gonville ffrench. Occupied by the Honourable Clarinda ffrench in the 1850s who held the property from the Right Honourable Richard W. Greene, valued at £21. The house is now a ruin.

The Rock of Dunamase was raided and plundered by the notorious Vikings in 842. This was recorded by the monks who bore witness to the savage attacks that they were subjected to at this violent time in Ireland’s history. The Vikings had traveled from their seasonal settlement in Dublin and raided the well-protected Rock of Dunamase in 845AD. The famous Abbot known as Terryglass, was murdered during these vicious raids by the feared and ruthless Vikings. They would have plundered and killed all who crossed their paths, removing all forms of portable wealth from Christian sites. The castle was built by the Burkes circa 1500. The outer bawn is completely intact and you can carefully walk along the rampart, like they did in times of old. So cool!

Puffins feed on sand eels and other small oily fish in the waters around the island. These wonderful birds can live to be more than 30 years old and they typically mate for life, returning to the same burrow year after year. Puffins are one of the most monogamous creatures on Earth!

These dolphins are in great spirits as they play with each other off the coast of Ireland. Awesome!

What makes this site unique is that there are the remains of a 6th century monastic settlement consisting of a church, a clochaun (beehive hut) and the ruins of up to four other buildings. it is believed to have been founded by Saint Senan. There is a tradition in the area that there was a small burying place on the island in which was buried any monks that died on the island.
