Splitting beehives using the Demaree method | Trying something new this year.
This year I am going to try to accomplish two goals by using a swarm control method called the Demaree method. Goal one is to prevent the hives from swarming and goal two is to produce a massive honey harvest. Unlike previous seasons when I split off half of the colony into a separate box; this year I will try to trick the bees into staying put. The more bees in the box, the more nectar collected, the more honey to harvest. Let's hope it all works out.

I found something I didn't know was lost in the bee yard.
Over the past week I have been visiting the bee yard at the farm to prep the hives for their upcoming splits. I did not take the cameras but I did take my son. We worked for several hours and I found something I didn't know was missing.

CHAOS in the Bee Yard. Queen-less Hives and Laying Workers #beekeeping
This was supposed to be a quick video to inspect the rest of the beehives at the farm and prepare for splits. After inspecting the first hive all plans went out the window. Today we will encounter our first queen-less and laying worker hives of 2024. I hope I have taken the correct actions to kick start the offending hives. Splits need to be done and the hives have to be in order first.

Today we get to enjoy some lost footage that I found on my desktop from October. This is the day my wife helped me install mouse guards and feed the bees in the BeeCastle bee yard. This video was entirely edited by my wife Christa. I cannot wait to see how it turned out!

This is the last inspection of 2023. It is December 31, 55F, and windy but we are going to look inside a couple of beehives in the @beecastle-official bee yard. I hope all of the hives are still alive after several 20F mornings. Hopefully we can welcome the 2024 beekeeping season with 28 hives full of bees.

About this video:Rearranging A Beehive Before Winter | Army Bee Barn Update
Today we will be inspecting the Army Bee Barn to see if the Queen bee successfully built a brood nest below the queen excluder. This was a risky proposition from the beginning and was never better than a 50/50 shot at success. The question is will the bees survive or did I doom them for winter survival? How did we do?

A bit about my channel:
This channel is primarily about beekeeping or more specifically beekeeping 101 because I am just a beginning beekeeper and I figured the best way to learn beekeeping and to be a beekeeper was to buy a flow hive, sometimes spelled flowhive or a flow hive 2 which is sometimes known as a flowhive 2 and begin building by backyard apiary so I would have a place to keep bees. Now, backyard beekeeping is not the only thing I do. I consider myself to be urban farming as I also try to grow a sustainable and edible landscape. Backyard farming for me also includes keeping chicken and building other things in my shop that will help all of the birds, bees, insects, and other natural pollinators. I learn how to feed bees and chickens while showing you my day-to-day activities in my apiary, sometimes known as a bee yard. Some people consider me a prepper and yes there is a little truth to that. I do consider this a form of prepping and becoming self sufficient. Thank you for spending time with me learning about tap hives, flow hives, honeybees, and chickens.

About this video:Medicating Bees and Winter Preparation
Today I continue my winter preparation in the BeeCastle yard and will be inspecting and medicating the bees in preparation for winter. I have seen other beekeepers use probiotics on their hives to improve their bees health going into winter and I figured it couldn't hurt. I have been working harder than ever to prepare these hives for the spring flow and I don't want to drop the ball now.

About this video:Aoetree Cordless Leaf Blower Review | This would make a good gift for anyone.
In today's video we will be reviewing the Aoetree Cordless Leaf Blower. I will show the blower and give it a whirl. Spoiler Alert: This blower will make a great gift. There is a lot of value here for the money and as a beekeeper I will be using this for more than just leaves. I will get a lot of harvest use out of it as well. If you are interested in purchasing this product you can scan the QR code on the screen or follow this link. As of October 2023 this blower is only $ 149.00.
If you would like more information or to purchase this product you can find it here: https://pixel.xin/jab0V
About this Channel:
I hope you enjoy beekeeping and this video. If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper or experience backyard beekeeping for yourself have a look at some of the videos on this beekeeping channel as well as videos from beekeeping creators I have listed below.
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. That means I am bad at quite a few things.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself, grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!

About this video:Bee Barns are Weak and Dead! | I neglected the home bee yard this season.
I neglected the home bee yard this season and am now paying the price. All of the Bee Barns are weaker than I would like and on of them is completely empty. The bee flew away :-(. Today I will be accessing the hives and planning for the upcoming winter. I just hope I can keep these bees alive.

About this video: Eliminate ALL Hive Beetles the Easy Way | My Apiary is beetle free
In today's video we will introduce the BS-5K or the Beetle Sucker 5000. I will effectively remove every single hive beetle in the Apiary in a single afternoon. Hive beetles are no match for the beetle sucker 5000. The only good hive beetle is a non animated hive beetle.

About this video: New Tool For Winter Beehive Management | Winter Beekeeping
My latest tool for winter beehive management is the TOPDON TC004 thermal imaging camera. This tool, or the mobile thermal camera adapters the TC001 and TC002, is the best way I know to identify if the beehive lives or dies in the harsh winter cold. Just a quick point at the hive and the answer appears on the screen. Heat signature and they are alive, no signature, they're dead. It's that easy. Today we will be opening and inspecting the TOPDON TC004, looking a its features, and capturing some video of the several things in the yard including chickens and bees.
To view or purchase a TC004 please visit the TOPDON store on Amazon.
