Part Eight: The Rise and Fall (and rise and fall) of "The Makeover Guy®"
I don't know why in the midst of it all we decided to buy a house. I was sure I'd only live downtown Minneapolis in a condo. We were settled and since we had gotten such a great price in 1992, selling it in 2001 at the peak of a seller's market would mean a good profit. But that also meant buying the house I wanted was financially impossible.
Then one day we decided to check out a house that seemed to have what I was looking for. It was out of our price range. But I couldn't sleep having decorated it a million times in my head. We went back the next day and the price had dropped to JUST in our price range. We just took a leap of faith.
It has turned out to be a great place, but it has been constant and never ending work. Yet, we've enjoyed a thousand great memories here in the past 22 years.

Part Seven: The Rise and Fall (and rise and fall...) of "The Makeover Guy®"
Events took a turn for the better when we again appeared on Oprah in 1999. Though I was still determined to work on a singing career, business picked up considerably. Finally, we had a buyer for the business and in the next decade, the future looked bright.

Part Six: The Rise and Fall (and rise and fall...) of "The Makeover Guy®"
Robert and I were personally and financially devastated by losing our top stylists. My heart was no longer in the company and I decided to put the business up for sale, focusing on the possibility of following my original dream as an entertainer and singer. I decided to record an album but was not prepared for the expense and difficulties.

Part Five: The Rise and Fall (and rise and fall...) of "TheMakeoverGuy.com"
I still have difficulty when remembering this period. There were so many ups and downs. I lost staff, but I was singing at Jackson Hole. My parents had to move into the condo next door to us. I had to cover a few months of their rent until some sort of unemployment comes from the government. Dad became a bartender, then a doorman. He was pretty depressed. And he medicated that with alcohol.
I bought Mom some newer work clothes. I took her to the orchestra balls. We did our best to enjoy the benefits of Eiji's offering. It was a good year to build friendships with orchestra people. And musicians. We just understand each other for some reason.
Yeah. I have no idea how I did all of that. I know I didn't want to have to manage people again. Kristyl was a huge help and learned, listened, then knew how to take charge. She was more of a clean freak than even I was.
We made it. All new people. But what I decided to do next.

Part Four: The Rise and Fall (and rise and fall...) of "TheMakeoverguy®"
It's 1996 when we hit a plateau. I felt like I was just grinding my wheels to keep it going. We got nothing really for appearing on Oprah. There wasn't a way for people to find us without anyone knowing what city we are in.
Though we became known as a "Salon of the Stars," with such notables as seen in the video.
In the midst of it all I bought my mother a facelift. I knew they liked me and hoped for some pitch that we could make work. So I put in process what would include cosmetic surgery "young and sexy" makeover. This also would give me a discount, hopefully, should that publicity be worth it. We decided on Dr. David O. Smith and are glad we did. The results have been natural and beautiful still into her '80's.
It was around this time I had my first early mid life crisis. It dawned on me I was never going to be the performer I wanted to be if some great opportunity didn't come walking in the door. But then it did. Eiji Oue heard me sing, brought me in front of the general manager, Asadour Santourian and eventually those on the board (at a party, where we performed, where, following the performance I was told that they wanted me to perform for the Christmas show, The New Year's Eve Gala and Cabaret Pops singing Rodgers and Hammerstein. OMG! OMG! It was now or never.

Part Three: The Rise and Fall (and the rise and fall...) of "The Makeoverguy®"
Well, things started looking up when a friend of mine, Julie Johnson, who had been a producer on "Good Company," pitched me for a fashion felon makeover on Miss Opras' show in Chicago. I got the call on a Friday evening and overnighted my demo reel on Saturday. It was received on Sunday. Kandi Amelon, one of the producers for the national talk show, was hesitant that I would be too polite. Still, she took the risk and called me during a busy client day. I flew out Wednesday morning and started shopping until late that evening upon arrival. The show aired live on Thursday, February 16th. I flew home to silence. So much for national publicity! Still, all were all impressed and told me I'd be back. I didn't know it would be two years later.

Part Two: The Rise and Fall (and rise and fall) of "The Makeover Guy®"
Please see part one first. After months working on a lease for Gaviidae Common in Minneapolis I found out I was being strung along for a competing salon which one out: Juut Salon. Then another opportunity presented itself to build a full image development center at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Minneapolis. An extremely costly learning opportunity that leveraged us to the opening of reVamp! salonspa 5 (long) years later.

MAKEOVERGUY® Makeup Application for Alana Potter
Kayla created the makeup for Alana with Christopher's assistance for the final reveal. Often it is collaborative. We first do a "natural" version and then the final Glamour look for the "reveal." The final Glamour look is not recorded as it is done intermittently by trying on clothes, re-fixing the hair, etc.
