On my afternoon walk, I heard this little guy before I saw him in a nearby tree.

On Christmas, we liberally scatter her favorite treats among the toys in her box. She has to fish them out to eat them, and she's really good at it! Soundtrack is Renaissance Christmas by the Boston Camerata.

Temps have been in high teens and twenties for a few days around here. Our little flock of bushtits dropped by this morning. The Song Sparrow waited his turn on the ground.

It's snowing in Everett, WA, and our yard is full of birds. Juncos, a Song Sparrow, and Common Bushtits love our suet and seed feeders.

I took more video in the back yard, and got great shots of our Townsend's Warbler at the hot pepper suet feeder.

We are seeing the first snowfall of 2022 in Everett, Washington. The yard is teeming with birds, including chickadees, juncos, a wren, black-capped chickadee, rufous-sided towhee, and our Townsend's warbler. This is my first video of our warbler, with his black mask on a yellow head.

After I finished planting some grasses in the yard, I grabbed my phone to see what birds I could capture. Here's our Song Sparrow, bopping around near the seed feeder, and cleaning up after himself and other birds who almost seem to scatter more seed than they eat.

This little guy was less than three feet from me, as he ate at my suet feeder. It's remarkable how he can hang off the wire basket when he looks away between bites to make sure no one is going to challenge him for the suet.

One of our Red-shafted Flickers came over Saturday. She picks at bugs in the wood of our backyard fence-see how it looks moth-eaten!

Two Dark-eyed Juncos dropped by the seed feeder on Saturday. They stick around here all year.

A big Steller's Jay found out how to perch on the hanger so he can get at the hot-pepper suet. That suet lasts about a week or less-the birds love it!

Outside the arena, young riders are warming up for the Hunt Seat competition at the Washington State Fair, September 9, 2022. All the horses and their riders are just beautiful.

For Labor Day, we drove to Leavenworth, and on the way we stopped at Deception Falls. The falls, which cascade under US Highway 2, are on Deception Creek, which flows into the Tye River, and then to the Skykomish River. This is the lower falls.

Chesterfield Beach Park in Bellevue is a narrow slice of land on the Eastern shore of Lake Washington. Passing boat wakes make waves that splash against the concrete steps.

I stood on the back step and watched a Chestnut-backed Chickadee, and then a Black-capped Chickadee at the bis suet feeder. They take turns.

On a Sunday in July, we drove over to the Beaver Lake Preserve. It was a warm day, and the lake was mostly quiet. We walked through the forest, and down to the lakeside.

I took a picnic dinner down to Thornton Sullivan Park at Silver Lake on July 28, not far from home. The kids were having a ball, diving off the dock.

This little gray squirrel with a buff underbelly was desperate to get at the bird seed in the squirrel-proof feeder. No luck, but he sure tried everything. He's a Douglas Squirrel.

Father Sergei and daughter Maria (Masha) play their chromatic button accordions in the Festhalle in Leavenworth, Washington's Bavarian Village. Maria started accordion at five years old, and might be as good as Dad by now.
