Tragic Death of Metallica's Cliff Burton
Cliff Burton's Early Death
How Did Cliff Burton Die?
Metallica Tour Bus Crash
On September 27, 1986, the music world was struck with tragedy when Metallica's talented bassist, Cliff Burton, lost his life in a horrific accident at the young age of 24. The incident occurred while the band was on tour in Sweden promoting their third studio album, Master of Puppets.
Cliff Burton was asleep in a bunk location he specifically chose for himself by winning a contest to see who got to sleep in the bunk. Cliff Burton randomly pulled an ace of spades from a deck of cards, winning his preferred choice of bunk, to which Kirk said "Fine... I'll sleep up front, it's probably better anyway." - Hammet, Metallica - VH1's 'Behind the Music' - Remastered (2009), quoted through Wikipedia (Cliff Burton)
Singer James Hetfield chose to sleep in a lounge near the back of the bus because he didn't want cold air seeping in from the windows giving him a sore throat and affect his singing voice.
As the tour bus made its way through a remote area it suddenly skid off the road and tumbled over, throwing a sleeping Cliff Burton through the window before landing on top of him, killing him instantly.
As James Hetfield told an interviewer:
“My throat was going bad, so I was asleep in the back lounge. The tour buses you see here are all metal-sided, but it was all windows on the side, and that was the main cause of the death.
It hit so-called black ice, skidded out and bounced once, and that’s when he went through the window, and the bus went right on him. It was pretty quick and I know he didn’t know what hit him.” - Hetfield, Metallica Recall Their Anger At Cliff Burton's Death, Martin Kielty, Metal Hammer (Sep 20, 2022) -
Reports differ as to what exactly caused the bus to skid off the road. The bus driver claims that the bus hit a patch of black ice. However, James Hetfield was quite skeptical. After pulling himself from the wreckage, he walked back and forth along the road looking for the so-called patch of black ice and was unable to find one. Police who investigated the scene were also unable to locate any patches of black ice on the road.
Making matters worse, when the bus was being lifted by a crane so that paramedics could get to Cliff's body, the bus slipped and fell on Cliff a second time.
A frustrated and confused James Hetfield explained:
“Coming out and finding your buddy under the bus is not something you want to go through. Our first reaction was anger – one of the things we were good at.
‘Why did this happen? Where’s the driver? Let me smell your breath.’ I walked for miles looking for this black ice in my underwear, when it’s 20 below. There were screams from the crew who were still trapped in there, screaming in pain – broken collar bones, toes, all that.” - Hetfield, Metallica Recall Their Anger At Cliff Burton's Death, Martin Kielty, Metal Hammer (Sep 20, 2022)
James Hetfield initially accused the driver of being drunk but when speaking about the incident years later, other members of the band discussed the possibility that the driver may have fallen asleep. Local detective Arne Pettersson also believes this may have been the case, as he claimed that the skidmarks left at the scene of the accident resembled those of other accidents where a driver had indeed fallen asleep. However, the driver claims that he had previously slept and was well rested.
Although James was skeptical about what he was told, the driver of another tour bus that was carrying Metallica's gear agreed with the testimony provided by the driver of the crashed bus. The mystery may never be officially solved, as the driver was ultimately determined to not be at fault and no charges were pressed against him.
As guitarist Kirk Hammett explains:
"It’s one of those things you never learn the entire truth. We were all asleep when it happened. Who knows – maybe the driver was asleep too." - Hammett, Metallica Recall Their Anger At Cliff Burton's Death, Martin Kielty, Metal Hammer (Sep 20, 2022)

Jason Newsted EXPLAINS Why He QUIT Metallica
Bassist Jason Newsted never really received fair credit during his tenure with Metallica. He joined the band after beloved bassist Cliff Burton died tragically in an accident involving Metallica's tour bus while on the road supporting Master of Puppets. Fans would eventually learn to embrace him and what he did for the band during a run of four highly successful albums. But they were initially apprehensive and somewhat apathetic towards him.
This wasn't helped by the fact that on his first album with the band, Metallica turned the volume of his bass guitar down so low that you really can't even hear him. People frequently joke about ...And Justice For All being the Metallica album without bass. Even though it would be St Anger in which the band technically didn't have a bassist.
That job would be performed in the studio by producer Bob Rock. Some of you might be thinking, wait a minute, I thought Robert Trujillo joined Metallica for St Anger? Well, you are correct. However, he would join the band after St Anger had already been finished. Robert had no creative input on the songs written for St Anger but Metallica still gave him a credit in the album's liner notes to help make him an official member of the band, a title he still holds as of the making of this video.
After having some of his creative ideas shot down by Metallica, Jason was looking outside of the band for ways to express himself. One of these ideas include the formation of his band Echobrain. This caused a rift between Jason and Metallica frontman James Hetfield, who was concerned that the project would interfere with Metallica. When Metallica's management at Q Prime began discussing the idea of promoting Jason's Echobrain album, James contact management and pressured them to drop support of the Echobrain album.
As Jason explains:
"And so they had told me, pretty convincingly, 'This is a great record, we've been playing it around the office... it's fantastic, this kid has a great voice. Let's do something with this.' That's what they told me, and then James Hetfield heard about it and was not happy. He was, I think, pretty much out to put the kibosh on the whole thing because it would somehow affect Metallica in his eyes, because now the managers were interested in something I was doing that had nothing to do with him...
I have no idea what [Hetfield] was thinking, other than just protecting what he valued, just like he does; that's his thing. He protects what he loves, squeezes it too hard... That's where I was coming from. The people that I had counted on for 15 years to help me with my career, help Metallica, take care of my money, do all of those things, told me, 'Your new project is fantastic, we'd like to help you with it.' James heard about it, the manager calls me back a couple of days later
During a band meeting in early January of 2001, Jason suggest that Metallica should take year long break which would allow Jason time to pursue his sideproject. This idea was also shot down by James Hetfield.
Tired of having his creative ideas shot down, on January 17, 2001 Jason Newsted announced his resignation from Metallica, quitting the band after 15 years and 4 studio albums.
Drummer Lars Ulrich spoke with an interviewer just two years after Jason's departure and expressed a bit of sorrow over how Jason was treated during his tenure with Metallica;
"Jason was overlooked... And the ironic thing is that the model for what would have been the perfect Metallica in Jason's mind is the one that exists now. That is kind of ironic. It's also a little sad, because Jason's a good guy and he put a lot of effort into the band for many years, and in retrospect he was never really fully accepted into the band. Then when he tried to go elsewhere to satisfy his creative needs, he was told — well, barked at — that he couldn't."
James Hetfield would also express a bit of sorrow over the way he handled things with Jason while he was in the band. Often suffocating any of Jason's creative ideas out of fear of surrendering even the slightest bit of control of this musical behemoth that Metallica had become;
“It must have been very bittersweet for him. Like a dream come true by... stepping into someone’s shoes who can never be filled. It must have been very difficult for him.”
James would reflect upon the experience while writing lyrics for the song "All Within My Hands" which would be the closing track on St Anger;
"Squeeze it in
Crush it down
All within my hands /
Love is control
I'll die if I let go"

RIGHT WING HIPPIE RUSSELL BRAND | IS CANCEL CULTURE COMING FOR RUSSELL BRAND? | POP PUNK RADIO RANTS
Russel Brand does a lot of virtue signaling but sometimes I agree with him. His recent criticism of censorship and big tech has led him to be targeted by some who would call him "right wing." This is a commentary on Russell Brand's recent video where he discusses why he is being called "right wing."

BLINK 182 UNTITLED | 10 FUN FACTS
Fun facts about blink 182 self titled album
Did you know that Mark Hoppus of Blink 182's Grandfather wrote some of the lyrics for the one of the band's biggest albums? Or that one of the band's hit songs was inspired by The Cure? What about the alternate song title which the band thought was too dorky? Stick around and we will answer these questions and more!
1 Take Your Time
The album took an entire year to make.
Record label executives at Geffen gave the band an extensive amount of creative freedom and allowed them to to take as much time as they wanted.“Our previous records, like Enema Of The State/Take Off Your Pants And Jacket... We’d write the whole thing in two weeks, and then we would record my drums in a day, and we would record guitars, bass, and vocals over the next month. This record [Untitled], we recorded over a year’s time. We wrote a song and then recorded it, took as much time as we wanted.” - Travis Barker; This is Blink 182: Untitled, Garret Michael Carlson, Dudefluencer, Sep 13, 2019
2 Box Car Racer
Tom credits his experience working on the Box Car Racer album for helping Blink 182's untitled album.
“One of the craziest things about Box Car Racer is that it was the both greatest and the worst thing for Blink. It was obviously the reason why we made that last record, which I thought was a masterpiece, but it also caused a great division in the band. It was really hard for Mark. He thought it was really lame Travis and I went and did that, but it was a totally benign thing on my part because I only asked Travis to play drums because I didn’t want to pay for a studio drummer,” - Tom Delonge; This is Blink 182: Untitled, Garret Michael Carlson, Dudefluencer, Sep 13, 2019
3. Untitled
The album is not Self-Titled.
"It's kind of like if you have a painting that you've painted and you just can't think of a name for it. That's how we felt about our record. We felt like we couldn't think of a name to justify what just happened on that record. You know?" - Barker; interviews, Bobby Gorman, ThePunkSite (Dec 10, 2003)
"We didn’t want to label it with anything. We didn’t want to label it with a joke title that people might expect. We didn’t want to label it with some serious phrase that the whole record would have to somehow relate to. We left it untitled, so it would speak for itself.”- Tom Delonge; This is Blink 182: Untitled, Garret Michael Carlson, Dudefluencer, Sep 13, 2019
4. Tattoo Artist
The album art was created by Travis Barker's tattoo artist.
"His style, incorporated into Blink's, didn’t make us too gangster: it just gave us a bit of an edge. It was cool to feel like Blink had a dangerous side." - Barker; Can I Say (2015)
5. Makeout Party
All four music videos for songs on the album feature people kissing.
6. Grandpa's Love Letters
Some of the album's lyrics include real World War II love letters.
The chilling lyrics read by actress Joanne Whalley during the interlude which precedes "Stockholm Syndrome" actually came from real letters sent by Mark Hoppus' Grandfather to his Grandmother during World War II.
7. Robert Smith
Robert Smith from The Cure makes a cameo on "All Of This":
"We just sent it over and he did the vocal and sent it back," Delonge says. "To be honest, we weren't even sure it was going to happen because he was taking so much time with it. We were literally hours from having to turn [the masters] in to the factory when it showed up. It gave us all goose bumps to hear Robert's voice on our record, to hear his voice on another song, and to come to the realization that we actually wrote the music to it, because it sounds like a Cure song. We were jumping for joy when it was all said and done." - Delonge; Seriously, Blink 182 Is Growing Up, Washington Post (Jun 10, 2004)

Did you know that Chester Bennington of Linkin Park wanted to punch label executives at Warner Bros in the face when producing the band's debut album? Or that the band was rejected by 45 record labels prior to finally being signed? What about the hit song that Chester originally hated and didn't want to include on the album?
10 Fun Facts About Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
1. Not First Choice
Linkin Park began in 1996 as a rap rock group performing under the name of Xero. The name was changed to Hybrid Theory when lead vocalist Chester Bennington joined the band. However, complications with a European electronic music duo who already went by Hybrid caused the band to go with Linkin Park. Their debut full length album would receive the name Hybrid Theory. Which was actually a reference to the band's combination of different musical genres.
2. Bad Tour Buddies
Chester Bennington and company scoffed at early criticism that Linkin Park was "nothing more than a nu metal boy band" and played with a chip on their shoulder. Stating that the band wanted to put on a show that went so hard that nobody would want to invite them on tour.
“It gave us something to prove and drove us on, for sure... There was a lot of false perception about us but what we did, instead of talking about it, was make it our mission that when we played, we wanted everyone who played after us to go, ‘Fuck!’ We wanted to be the band that no one wanted to tour with because we would turn up, crush the fucking crowd and then everyone would want to leave after us. We wanted to kick people in the face.” - Bennington, The definitive story of the biggest selling debut album.., Tomas Doyle, Metal Hammer (Oct 24, 2022)
3. Hard Work Pays Off
The band worked incredibly hard just to get their early demo tapes noticed. The group auditioned and were declined by at least 45 record labels, according to Bennington. However, good fortune paid off when the band's A&R manager landed a job at Warner Bros. Negotiating a contract with the label where part of his terms would allow Linkin Park to be his first signing.
“We showcased for every fucking label there was... and they all turned us down.” - Shinoda, The definitive story of the biggest selling debut album.., Tomas Doyle, Metal Hammer (Oct 24, 2022)
“No one wanted us, but we knew we had something fucking special... We just kept pushing. Most bands probably try out in front of three labels, get rejected and give up. We played in front of 45 but our attitude was, ‘These guys are fucking stupid if they can’t see what we’ve got.’ We knew what we had and never doubted it.” - Bennington, The definitive story of the biggest selling debut album.., Tomas Doyle, Metal Hammer (Oct 24, 2022)
4. Give Him The Boot
Although the band were lucky to have a new connection at Warner Bros, they still had to fight tooth and nail with the label in order to maintain their creative vision for the band. Including pressure to remove songwriter and vocalist Mike Shinoda.
However, Chester stood-up for his creative partner.
“These guys sat me down and were like, ‘Oh, you’ve got such an amazing voice, you could be such a shining star...' They wanted to see if I would pull a coup to get Mike out... They told me I’d be the face of the band and that Mike had no story ’cos he was just some kid from Agoura... They wanted some fucking rapper from New York who no one knew to come and do vocals on the record.

Limp Bizkit Rollin LAST Music Video FILMED at World Trade Center
The music video for "Rollin" cost 3 million dollars to make and was the last music video filmed on top of the World Trade Center. While the video was filmed a year before the infamous events that would take place, members of the band received a thank you letter from World Trade Center staff just one day prior to the attacks on Sept 11, 2001.
"We received a letter the day before the attack from the World Trade Center thanking us for letting them be a part of a video that just won an award. I had it framed. I found it very ironic, very bizarre that I received that letter on Monday, and Tuesday the [attacks occurred]. For me to have gotten to go to the top of such a great, powerful structure ... to have those people embrace me and let Limp Bizkit spend 22 hours on top of the World Trade Center doing what we do. ... And for it to be taken down? The structure itself means nothing to me. I don't believe in that structure being a symbol of power, of pride, of America. What means something to me is the people that were killed around and in that building innocently, for no reason except hatred. It overwhelms me. I thank God the night we were on the World Trade Center wasn't the night they decided to do that." - Durst, fred durst : give peace a chance, MTV (Sept 29, 2001)

10 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA SELF TITLED ALBUM
Did you know that the hit song "Peaches" by Presidents of the United States was written all because of a random trip to a Seattle bus-stop? Or that lyrics to one of the band's biggest hits were inspired by a time lead singer Chris Ballew took acid? What about the music video that MTV refused to play because it was too "dark and disturbing? Stick around as we answer these questions and more!
1. Five Strings
The band performs with just 5 strings on their guitars.
No, I don't mean the guitarist simply removed a strong and called himself Keith Richards, I mean they collectively play with just 5 strings among the entire band! Chris Ballew on what he calls the two-string "bassitar" and Dave Dederer on the three-string guitbass
"Between Dave and I, we have five strings, and you can make the most complicated chord in the world with five strings... We just have to cooperate with each other." - Chris Ballew; Weird Lyrics Come Naturally To The Presidents, Brooks Whitney, Chicago Tribune (May 10, 1996)
"By now, I am so used to playing two string instruments that I don’t remember the headspace I had when I wrote on regular instruments! It just seems completely natural now. In fact, I wonder why people don’t actually just learn on a two string or three string. It’s so much easier!
I have also come to learn about the origins of rock and roll music and the African banjo... The idea of using fewer strings connects what we do back in time to the roots of rock n roll in Africa." - Chris Ballew; Interview With Chris Ballew.., Will Hodge, NoiseTrade (Apr 9, 2013)
2. Anti-Grunge
The band intentionally wrote humorous material to brighten up the mood of the rock scene which was dominated by moody grunge acts like Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
"I’ve been making silly music my whole life. I’ve also been making serious music as well. I have a lot of different colors in my paint box. But I do remember a distinct feeling that the scene needed to be lightened up a little bit and so it felt like it was time to bring out my silly stuff and see if it would be well received in that environment. I do remember watching the MTV Music Awards in 1992 or 1993 and thinking that the scene needed a little bit of a smile." - Chris Ballew; Interview With Chris Ballew.., Will Hodge, NoiseTrade (Apr 9, 2013)
3. Inspired by Buzzcocks
"Lump" was partially inspired by The Buzzcocks.
"In the beginning, it was me trying to write a Buzzcocks song. I guess I still channel them a little bit whenever I play it." - Chris Ballew; Interview With Chris Ballew.., Will Hodge, NoiseTrade (Apr 9, 2013)
4. Energizer Presidents
They keep going and going and going... OK, young people have no idea what I'm talking referencing here ... but Chris Ballew and Dave Dederer never get tired of performing the band's breakthrough hit "Lump."
"No matter how many times we play it (and we have played it at almost every single show we’ve ever played), it is as fresh and as alive as if I just wrote it that afternoon. I am not sure what it is, but I am never bored playing that song." - Chris Ballew; Interview With Chris Ballew.., Will Hodge, NoiseTrade (Apr 9, 2013)
"Never got tired of the songs, esp. "Lump." Every night is different, every stage is different, every crowd is different." - Dave Dederer; IamA Has Been Rockstar.., Reddit (2010)
5. Dark & Disturbing
MTV refused to play the original music video for "Lump" because it was allegedly considered "too dark & disturbing."
While I definitely think that calling the content of the music video "disturbing" is a bit of a Karen move, I will also admit that re-doing the video with brighter and more colorful imagery was a good thing. The iconic imagery of the band performing in a boggy marsh to open the video definitely sticks out well in my mind some 20 years later. Perhaps "dark & disturbing" was MTV's way of saying "go back and make us a better video, ya schmucks."
6. Benign Tumor
Speaking of "dark and disturbing."... "Lump" was partially inspired by a benign tumor in frontman Chris Ballew's head.
The rest of the song was improvised.
"I just make the stuff up... That's the magic of writing songs, you don't really have to explain." - Chris Ballew; Weird Lyrics Come Naturally To The Presidents, Brooks Whitney, Chicago Tribune (May 10, 1996)

10 Fun Facts About Vol 3 (The Subliminal Verses) by Slipknot
1. No Cursing
Vocalist Corey Taylor made a conscious decision to avoid cursing on Slipknot's Vol 3 (The Subliminal Verses) due to criticism regarding the amount of cursing on their first two studio albums. The frontman himself told an interviewer in 2019:
"I was catching so much hell. Whether it was Slipknot or Stone Sour... 'Oh, he can't truly be a great writer because he can't write without using expletives!' and whatnot.
"I was, like, 'Oh, really? OK...' So I did that whole album specifically for that. To me, it was a bigger 'F*** you' to write a whole album without saying that... I was pretty proud of that." - Taylor, Corey Taylor Explains Only Slipknot Album That Has No Profanities, Jomatomi, Ultimate Guitar (Oct 1, 2019)
2. Slip-Not
Slipknot's Vol 3 (The Subliminal Verses) didn't start out with a very productive recording process, and almost didn't happen because the band was too busy drinking and was not getting any work done, as various members of the band recount their own stories:
(Drummer) JOEY JORDISON told Revolver Magazine in 2008:
"Me and Paul demoed a bunch of songs. I flew down to Los Angeles and arrived expecting to practice. I walk in and Corey says, "No, I'm going to the Rainbow [Bar & Grill, the famous L.A. rock-and-roll hangout]." And Shawn says, "No, I'm working on something else." I'm like, "What the f***?! We're not f****** jamming?" So I go get a bottle of Jack Daniel's and drink myself into oblivion. Then I wake up at 3 o'clock the next day and say, "Right, let's jam," and no one wants to. It took us three f****** months before everyone came together." - Jordinson, Slipknot Look Back on Torment and Tumult... text Jon Wiederhorn, Revolver (Sep 26, 2008)
Vocalist COREY TAYLOR would say:
"For the most part, I pushed everybody away. I would drink all day and then go to the bar at night. I was the quintessential lead singer. You were gonna cater to my ego and tell me everything was great. And that's so not who I am. Honestly. I never wanted to be like that. I would keep a bottle of Jack next to my f****** bed every day. Instead of figuring out why I was upset, I just drowned in it... I just wanted to feel something other than terrible." - Taylor, Slipknot Look Back on Torment and Tumult... text Jon Wiederhorn, Revolver (Sep 26, 2008)
And turntablist SID WILSON would explain:
"Like some of the other guys, I went through some relationship problems and started drinking and smoking reefer really heavily, nonstop all day to deal with the depression. I'd stay up for three days straight. Then I'd pass out for a day and continue the cycle until I realized a year later that there's a lot worse things than being on the pity pot. I started playing piano and that was a good release for me—getting rid of the depression through the keys." - Wilson, Slipknot Look Back on Torment and Tumult... text Jon Wiederhorn, Revolver (Sep 26, 2008)

Korn Follow The Leader Album Art Explained
The album cover was a concept thought up by Korn guitarist Munky which was scetched by a friend of Jonathan Davis before being handed over to Todd McFarlane of McFarlane Entertainment. You might know him for his artist work on The Amazing Spider-Man comics. He is also the creator of the superhero series, Spawn.
"I'd looked at all their album covers, and they all had this weird sort of mystery about them, like looming shadows. The one I remember [1994's Korn] had a girl on a swing, and there was like a shadow on the ground. What was interesting about it was, 'Was that shadow a predator or a protecting parent?' It left it to the imagination of whoever was looking at the image to decide.
On the Follow the Leader album cover I worked with Greg Capullo... He and I said, 'Well, what if we do hopscotch, but it's on the edge of a cliff. So the question is, will she keep going or will she do what you're supposed to do in hopscotch, which is turn around, and come back?' We did that to play with some of the stuff that Korn had already established with some of their prior album covers." - McFarlane, Todd McFarlane Reveals Story behind Korn's "Freak On A Leash" Music Video, Revolver (Dec 16, 2022)

Slipknot's Vol 3, (The Subliminal Verses), would be recorded in 2003 at The Mansion, a four bedroom estate owned by producer Rick Rubin, located in the Laurel Canyon region of Los Angeles, California. The Mansion is famous for the multiple bands who have recorded hit albums within its walls. A list that includes Red Hot Chili Peppers, Audioslave, Marilyn Manson, The Mars Volta, System of a Down, and Linkin Park. The estate was also a former home of Golden Age actor Errol Flynn. And did you know that The Mansion is also allegedly haunted? According to various people who claim they had paranormal experiences while working or staying at The Mansion. Including Rick Rubin's publicist who claims she saw a woman in a white dress walk past her on the staircase. 10 Fun Facts Californication Red Hot Chili Peppers
Did you know that Red Hot Chili Peppers' Californication almost didn't have it's title track on the album? Or that the band was turned down by David Bowie when they approached him to collaborate? Why did singer Anthony Kiedis decide to sing jibberish on one of the album's hit singles? Stick around and we'll answer these questions and more. On...
10 Fun Facts about Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
1. Rejected by Bowie
Following the release of Red Hot Minute and the ensuing tour, Red Hot Chili Peppers wanted to take their album in a more electronic direction along the lines of U2's Zooroopa. They even asked famed Synth Rocker David Bowie to produce their album. However, the Starman politely declined, and the band went with a familiar face in Rick Rubin who had already produced Red Hot Minute as well as Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
As singer Anthony Kiedis told MTV's Kurt Loder:
"We basically called about five other people, you know, from David Bowie to [Nine Inch Nails producer] Flood... And they all just pretty much said, 'That's very nice of you to ask, but I think not." - Anthony Kiedis, Red Hot Chili Peppers Pursued Bowie, Flood For Californication, MTV News (May 28, 1999)
Kurt Loder states:
"You called David Bowie?" ...he's not even that busy." - Kurt Loder, Red Hot Chili Peppers Pursued Bowie, Flood For Californication, MTV News (May 28, 1999)
Anthony replied:
"According to the letter he wrote me, he's very busy... But getting Rick, in the end, turned out to be, again, what we needed... When he came around, he fell in love with it like we had and actually ended up making it his life for two or three months." - Kiedis, Red Hot Chili Peppers Pursued Bowie, Flood For Californication, MTV News (May 28, 1999)

Slipknot Duality HOUSE DESTRUCTION PARTY
Slipknot Duality HOUSE DESTROYED
The music video for "Duality" was filmed at a fan's house that was about to undergo renovation. However, fans that filled the house for the performance were so energetic that they end up causing far more damage than the band had expected. The list of damages included but was not limited to broken windows, water-damaged carpets, destroyed gutters and picnic tables, and a hole in the cieling where a chandelier used to be. The video would cost almost half a million dollars to shoot, with Roadrunner Records allegedly paying the homeowner $50,000 to help with repair bills.
Slipknot Co-Founder and Percussionist, Shawn "Clown" Crahan would explain:
"(We) asked our real fans to be in the video and people came from all over... it meant so much to us. We weren't really supposed to destroy that house – but we did it anyway. Another plus for that song is that I get to beat the f*** out of my keg. What else could you want?" - Crahan, Hell Unleased, Tom Bryant, Kerrang #1423. p. 24 (Jul 14, 2012)

LIVE TO SEE TOMORROW by THE NAILHEADS ALBUM REVIEW | MONTREAL ROCK N ROLL
For Fans Of: Ramones, The Clash, Johnny Cakes & The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypso
Review: All aboard The Nailheads express! You don't wanna miss this ride! Hailing from Montreal, Canada, the band are back with their fourth full length album. Live To See Tomorrow is a musical journey that covers a variety of influences, styles, and instruments. Harmonicas, pianos, bongos, and horns? Absolutely!
"Some people just stay the same," sings Ritchy Nails, "cause they're all too scared..." Songs such as "Waiting For Dawn" break the six minute mark and highlight the bands incredible variety of influences such as The Ramones, The Clash, Johnny Thunders, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, George Jones, Motown, & more. This is a band that is not afraid to experiment, although "experiment" is probably the wrong word choice because nothing feels stretched or out of place. The influences are diverse, but rock n' roll is the glue that binds them together in a neat little package.
"Kill Or Be Killed" is a straightforward rock n' roll energy track. "Nothing Comes Easy" busts out the harmonica for a little bit of the blues. "Do The Charlie" is a modernized version of soulful oldies from the 50s and 60s that will get your feet moving.
"There's Coming A Day" is another lengthy track that takes the listener on a trip that transitions from rock n' roll ballad to gospel sing-a-long reminiscent of Billie Joe Armstrong's take on The Temptations' hit song "Shout!" during live Green Day shows in the early 00s.
"Nothing Left To Lose" is a somber tune that makes me want to call in my tab, unhitch my horse, and ride off in to the sunset. The only problem is that in the not too distant future, the only thing to unhitch outside the local watering hole will likely involve the unplugging of an electric vehicle from a parking stall.
Live To See Tomorrow is an album that brings to mind images of sippin' on whiskey in a wood-stained pub while reminiscing on decisions made long ago. For your next drink, might I recommend The Nailheads special; one part punk, two parts rock n' roll, mixed with a dash of country, soul, and gospel.
Rating: 8 / 10 - Punk influenced old time rock n' roll is alive and well with The Nailheads unique blend exhibited on Live To See Tomorrow.

Did you know that Nirvana's third studio album, In Utero, almost had a completely different title? Or why producer Steve Albini insist that he take 0% of the album's royalty sales? Why did Kurt agree to change a song title to satisfy major retail stores when he was always so against the corporate music industry? Stick around as we answer these questions and more, on...10 Fun Facts About In Utero by Nirvana10 Things You Didn't Know About Nirvana In Utero1. First TakeKurt Cobain sang most of the lyrics on In Utero in one take and the entire album was produced in only 14 days because Nirvana wanted to release something raw and spontaneous as a follow up to their polished and pre-meditated album Nevermind. The band also elected to work with producer Steve Albini because Cobain was a fan of the primitive sound on Albini produced albums such as Surfer Rosa by the Pixies or Pod by The Breeders. As Albini himself explains:"The bulk of the record Kurt sang in one sitting. He sat with this broken acoustic guitar on his lap and had me play the songs back to him and he would strum along on this acoustic guitar and sing the songs. That was exactly the way he wanted to present it."
Drummer David Grohl would also explain that In Utero can be difficult for him to listen to, due to the raw and personal nature of the album: “Obviously In Utero was a direct response to the success and sound of Nevermind. We just pushed ourselves in the other direction, like, “Oh really, that's what you like? Well, here's what we're going to f****** do now!” But it is a hard album for me to listen to from front to back. Because it's so real, and because it's such an accurate representation of the band at the time, it brings back other memories, it kinda makes my skin crawl... I don't spend a lot of time thinking back on things I've done. But In Utero, man, what a trip."
2. The Simon Ritchie Band
Nirvana and producer Steve Albini wanted to record In Utero in a place where they wouldn't be surrounded by screaming fans trying to intrude on their workspace or be tempted by nearby "shenanigans." Even going so far as to book the studio under a fake name to avoid anybody leaking the news that a major rock band was going to be recording their next album in the area.“It was far enough away from anybody that the band knew socially, and we wouldn’t have a f****** TV crew out front every day or any drug dealers trying to do business... We had to make sure that word didn’t get out... I booked the studio on my account under the pseudonym the ‘Simon Ritchie Band,’ which was of course Sid Vicious’ real name...Until the flight cases started arriving... nobody knew. The cases had Nirvana spray-painted on the side of them, but until that happened, even the people who owned the studio didn’t know that Nirvana was going to be recording there.”
3. 0%
Producer Steve Albini refused to take a percentage of the album royalties, electing to work only for a flat fee. Ok, so that fee was $100,000 dollars which is no small amount to an average person. But considering that the album would go on to sell well over 15 million copies, $100k is chump change compared to what he could have collected with even a mere 1% cut. Albini felt that it would be unethical to demand a percentage of royalties from the band, especially considering that Nirvana intended to produce a "minimalistic" album with very little input from anyone who wasn't named Kurt, David, or Krist. Even going so far as to say “I think paying a royalty to a producer or engineer is ethically indefensible” in a four page proposal he sent to the band when requesting to work on the album.

Corey Taylor PRAISES Unsung Slipknot Hero Greg Fidelman
Corey Taylor credits producer Greg Fidelman as the "unsung hero" of Slipknot's The Subliminal Verses despite the fact that he was only credited as an Engineer. While Corey was frustrated with Rick Rubin over his lack of availability to mentor the young singer, he was quick to heap praise upon Greg Fidelman for being the mentor that he sorely needed at the time.
"To me, [Greg] was the other producer... He was there from sometimes six in the morning till four in the morning — I mean, every day, when we needed him... We have a great rapport with him. He gets us, he challenges us, but he also knows when to get out of the way and just let us be us. So we have a great relationship with him...
"The best thing you can have is somebody who's not afraid to tell you that that idea is s***... And I feel like too many bands do that — they don't have anybody pushing them; they have nobody challenging them. Because they get to a point where they think, 'Well, I don't need anybody to f****** tell me… I'm talented enough... I obviously know what I'm doing.' But that's not the case. You forget that the albums that people loved you on, there were other people helping you do that. It's a collaborative effort...
You have to have that open mind... to understand that listening to an idea takes 10 seconds. If you just dismiss it out of hand, then you may be missing that one moment, that hero moment, that can f****** make everything come together...
And Greg knows exactly how to throw those little bombs out there to push us. He infuriates us sometimes, but at the same time, I'd say nine times out of 10, he's right... he knows what we're trying to go for, he knows what we aspire to be, and he helps us get there." - Taylor, Slipknot's Corey Taylor Praises Producer Greg Fidelman..., from Let There Be Talk #455, text by Blabbermouth.net (Jan 9, 2019)

SONG MEANING Passenger Deftones feat Maynard James Keenan
Meaning of Passenger by Deftones
Deftones Passenger Explained
The Deftones song "Passenger" featuring Maynard James Keenan was never intended to include the Tool front man as a guest singer. However, after the band invite Maynard to work on the album as a musical mentor, he improvised some lines over their music while front-man Chino Moreno had stepped out of the studio. While Maynard only intended to illustrate an example for a different songwriting approach, the band loved what Maynard was doing and asked him to be part of the final song.
“It’s amazing that he wants to work with us... what an honor... He never intended to sing on anything. He just wanted to see how we wrote and give us ideas about how Tool does things... So we went down to work with him, and we already had the music for “Passenger” done. We were playing (while) Chino was out getting a beer or something... Maynard was listening and he said, “Why put things in 4/4 when you can go 3/4 or 7/8 or something like that?” And then he just grabbed the mike and started singing... And Chino had come back at that point, so they started trading off and doing their thing. We didn’t ever really intend to use Maynard on the new album, because every band is like,“Okay, here’s our token celebrity guest appearance, our celebrity crutch for the album.” We didn’t really want to go that route. But when we actually recorded it, we couldn’t get Maynard out of our heads. And I said, “Look, dude, just call Maynard and ask him to come in and do the song.” So Maynard came in for two days: wrote, recorded, done.” - Chi, White Pony (Song Secrets). Deftones World (accessed Aug 24, 2023)
"Having Maynard perform on the record wasn’t something that we planned on doing. We didn’t plan on having any guest on the record. But being a fan of Tool and A Perfect Circle, once Maynard was involved, it was just a magical thing for us. Honestly, when he first started working with us, he wasn’t supposed to sing with us. He was just working on the arrangements, riff structures, time signatures, and things like that. I don’t know if you’re a big fan of Tool’s music, but they’re really mathematical. I’ve been to their rehearsal space, and there’s this big chart that just looks like calculus–the way they write songs, it’s just crazy. It was good to have someone else who has different ways of writing songs, ’cause everyone has a different way of doing it. He came in and we started working on this one song in particular, and he just grabbed the microphone and started singing along to it, and my jaw just dropped. All of a sudden our band sounded like Tool; it was just crazy. Then, probably two months later, we went in to record the album, and I went in to record the vocals on it, and I just kept hearing his voice, this re-occurring melody with his voice coming over it. So I called him and asked him if he wanted to come down and sing on the record, and he had no problem with it. Once he came in, I gave him sort of what I wanted the song to be about, and he wrote a couple of ideas down, and the next day he came in with all the lyrics written all out with blank spaces where my lyrics were supposed to be. He’s very professional like that. He wants everything set perfectly, which is the complete opposite to the way that I write, so it was cool. And then I
went in and did my vocals over it, and it just seemed that our voices blended together pretty good... so we decided to put it on the record.” - Chino, White Pony (Song Secrets). Deftones World (accessed Aug 24, 2023) - https://www.deftonesworld.com/white-pony-song-secrets/

10 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA SELF TITLED ALBUM
PUSA 1995 Self Titled

How Box Car Racer HELPED Blink 182
Box Car Racer SAVED Blink 182

Did you know that Limp Bizkit named their third studio album as a reference to The Beatles? Or the music video that was banned from MTV due to controversial imagery? What about the feud between front-man Fred Durst and legendary artist Trent Reznor? Stick around and we'll answer these questions and more on...
10 Things You Didn't Know About Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water by Limp Bizkit
10 Fun Facts About Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water by Limp Bizkit
1. Limpdependence Day
The album was supposed to be called Limpdependence Day. However, this title was discarded when the band was unable to produce the album in time for a July 4th release date.
(Independence Day clip)
clip fred durst speech with independence day speech?
2. Sgt. Durst's Lonely Hot Dog Club Band
While many people are aware of the double ententre meaning behind the Chocolate Starfish moniker, fewer are aware of the origin of the album title, or that it is an absolute reference to a popular Beatles album.
"He (Durst) made up Chocolate Starfish and... I made up Hot Dog Flavored Water in a truck stop, when we were looking at those bottles of Crystal geyser flavored water. And they didn't have hot dog-flavored water or meat-flavored water... it was late at night and we were talking a bunch of garbage. And Chocolate Starfish obviously means an asshole... Fred calls himself Chocolate Starfish because people call him an asshole all the time. So it's like a band name... Kind of like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." - Wes Borland, Guitar World Presents Nu-metal, Brad Tolinski, Pg 104 (Apr 28, 2002)
(Apu: "I'm sgt pepper's lonely heart club band!")
3. Shameless Self Promotion
Durst references the album title in three songs: "Livin It Up," "Hot Dog," and "Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle)"
"Livin' It Up", where he declares that "The chocolate starfish is my man Fred Durst" (Wes Borland has stated in an interview when questioned on the naming of the album that "Fred calls himself Chocolate Starfish, because people call him an asshole all the time"[7]), "Hot Dog", where he tells his detractors to "Kiss my starfish, my chocolate starfish," and "Rollin' (Air Raid Vehicle)" where he mentions "Chocolate Starfish" in the introduction.
4. 46 Fs
The f word is used 46 times in the song "Hot Dog." Which kind of reminds me of the time South Park aired a Season 5 episode in 2001 where the word "shit" was uttered over 150 times. By the end of the episode, the word had lost all of it's edge and meaning. Oddly enough, producers at Comedy Central were against the idea of the S word being mentioned a few times but when Trey Parker and Matt Stone decided to up the ante to 150, the producers were suddenly fine with it.
Now that I draw the comparison, I'm kind of surprised that Eric Cartman never got to meet Fred Durst in an episode of South Park. I think that they could either be very good buddies or they might drive each other nuts.
The song "Hot Dog" features the word "fuck" 46 times; Durst points out in the lyrics "if I say fuck 2 more times that's 46 fucks in this fucked up rhyme".

10 Things You Didn't Know About Does This Look Infected by Sum 41
Did you know that Sum 41 front-man Deryck Whibley "hates" the band's second full-length album? Or why the punk rock band made a tough decision to stop drinking while on tour? Or which song from the album is more relevant today than ever before?
1. Stevo the Zombie
Drummer Steve Jocz, is affectionately known as "Stevo" No, he's not the same Steve-O from Jackass Although we hear he is quite a character in his own right. Take the album cover for example, where he can be seen wearing the zombie mask with fake blood pouring down his face. A photograph which was created months before a title was decided upon.
Speaking of which... The album cover has always reminded me of the popular John Travolta and Nicholas Cage film from the 90s.
(I want to take his face-- off)
3. Deryck Whibley "Hates" the Album
Ok, so hate is a strong word. But front-man Deryck Whibley has confessed that he is quite unhappy with the way the album was mixed.
"I've always, always hated the way this album sounds. I hated it in the studio and it still bothers me. The demo I made myself at home sounded better than the final mix... And it’s not anybody’s fault necessarily. I don’t think I knew enough of how to explain what I wanted to the mixer... I wouldn’t redo anything. It’s all there. It just needs to be mixed right." - Sum 41's Deryck Whibley looks back..., Deryck Whibley; AZCentral, April 29, 2018
4. Party Poopers
Normally people associate punk rock tours with a party animal atmosphere. However, the band stopped drinking and staying up late while on tour promoting All Killer, No Filler to record their second album.
In 2008, Stevo told MTV: "When we realized the recording time was coming up, we actually stopped partying... That made touring a whole different world... It's strange to spend the last two months on the road and go, 'Well, it looks like I'm going to bed early again, and I'll be up all day,' because, usually, you don't really have much to do until the show... So if you drink all night, you'll sleep all day until you're about to go on. And that occupies, like, 18 hours of the day. Then you only have to be up for one." Steve Jocz, - D'Angelo, Joe. "Sum 41: Testing Their Metal (Part 2)". MTV. April 8, 2008.
5. War in Iraq
"Still Waiting" is an anti-war song.
"“Still Waiting” was all about George W. Bush and going into Iraq and what a disaster it was gonna be. It was an anti-war, anti-Bush song... And I didn’t explain it. I didn’t talk about it in interviews... In those days, there was so much focus on our humor and our drummer at that time... He was always the joking guy. So that became the focus of our interviews. We never really spoke about the music. And a lot of those themes I was trying to talk about, they never really came across." - Deryck Whibley; Sum 41's Deryck Whibley looks back..., AZCentral, April 29, 2018
7. Anna Nicole Smith
Speaking of diss tracks... "A.N.I.C." or "A**hole" depending on which version of the album you're looking at, is a tribute to Anna Nicole Smith.
The former Playboy Playmate received a lot of attention in the early 00s for her notorious marriage to a wealthy senior citizen who she was often accused of marrying just for his money. The band stopped performing the song following her drug overdose in 2007. However, as of 2012, the band seem to have returned to including the song in their sets.

Kurt Cobain Met His Fans & THIS HAPPENED
Kurt Cobain Loves Alternative Rock Kids
It's no secret that Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain was uncomfortable with the level of fame that Nirvana had reached. However, the moody singer did have moments of gratitude regarding the impact his music had on the younger generation. As he told Spin in 1993: “I really miss being able to blend in with people... It’s just been lately that I could even handle being recognized... One guy came up, smacked me on the back, and said, ‘Hey, man, you got a good thing going, just get rid of your pissy attitude. Get off the drugs and just f****** go for it man...There were these, like, ten-year-old kids at a Butthole Surfers concert. They had green hair, they were skater punks who had made their own T-shirts with their favorite bands written on them. I could tell we had some kind of impact on them, and so had punk rock, because they didn’t want autographs. They just wanted to shake our hands and say thanks. I get a thrill meeting kids who are into alternative music. To be that advanced at that age makes me so envious.”- Cobain, The 1993 'In Utero' Cover Story..., Darcey Steinke, Spin (Sep 19, 2013)
