Sandtiger sharks on the wreck on the Spar

Conch Reef is located 6 miles south of Tavern Key. The area is home to numerous Queen Conchs. This is perhaps one of the best developed coral reefs and walls in the Florida Keys. The hugely popular wall is a great Key Largo dive spot. However, with the deeper depths and the often strong current, novices should not consider this as part of their dive.

"The Pipes" is an artificial reef about 12 miles off Atlantic Beach, NC where NC DOT dumped several hundred tons of concrete pipe culvert.

The US Coast Guard Cutter SPAR is an artificial reef located about 30 miles out of Bogue Inlet. The Spar upright, in a port list, in about 95 feet of water.

A Go-Box is a portable amateur radio station which the radio amateur can take when asked to go to an event which needs support with radio communication. What the Go-Box consists of depends on the extent of the event, and the communication needs.

The JJF Tug is part of the North Carolina Artificial Reef program. Sunk in 2016, this wreck sits in 65 ft of water about 15 miles out of Beaufort Inlet.

Pickles Reef is a small coral reef located in the Florida Keys. The reef gets its name from the Pickle Barrel wreck. The The reef gets its name from the remnants of a civil war wreck. It's once heavy cargo of barrels filled with cement have turned into solid concrete . These heavy cylinders litter the sandy ocean bottom and are encrusted with marine life.

Commissioned 18 June 1945, the Aeolus began service as the attack cargo ship "Turandot". After spending the final months of WWII transporting troops and cargo throughout the Pacific, she was decommissioned on 17 April 1947. In 1954, Turandot was reoutfitted as a cable repair ship and recommissioned as the "Aeolus". In her following 20 years of service, she operated in both the Atlantic. She remained the USS Aeolus until her final decommissioning in May 1985. today Aeolus sits upright in 110 feet of water about 30 miles out of Beaufort inlet. She is home to the full array of offshore marine life, including sand tiger sharks that can often be found inside the cable storage compartment. The wreck is in 3 pieces making navigation potentially difficult, especially in lower visibility.

On the evening of June 18, 1918, approximately 28 nautical miles from the North Carolina coast, the merchant ship SS Florida, with her lights extinguished in order to evade enemy submarines, collided with the merchant ship Shurz. Shurz sank in three hours. The wreck of the Schurz is contiguous and lies generally on her keel, listing slightly to her port side. The high spots on the wreck are the boilers. performing evasive maneuvers, but to know avail; it was too late. The Florida slammed in to the starboard side of the 255 foot long Schurz just aft of the bridge killing one sailor and injuring the commander. The Florida immediately reversed engines and backed away from the Schurz revealing a gaping wound in the hull. With water filling the holds rapidly, it was determined that the ship was doomed. Molasses reef is located just 6.8 miles from Key Largo and is arguably the most popular SCUBA and Snorkel spot in Florida. Molasses Reef area is home to over 600 different species of flora and fauna and is considered one of the best dive sites in North America.

Ashkhabad was built during World War I as a standard cargo ship. In April 1942, Ashkhabad set sail to Cuba from New York, escorted by British trawler, HMT Lady Elsa. Ashkhabad and Elsa ran a zigzag course in an effort to avoid U-boat attacks. Unfortunately, this tactic did not work. Traveling under the cover of darkness on April 30, 1942, theAshkhabad passed southeast of Cape Lookout, North Carolina. Subsequently, a U-402fired a single torpedo and hit the ship. The tanker sank in shallow water by its stern. Today, the Ashkhabad sits in 60 feet of water about 17 miles from Cape Lookout, North Carolina. The wreck lies in the warm water of the Gulf Stream, making it a popular site for diving. With an abundance of marine life, including many tropical fish, the Ashkhabad is also often home to loggerhead sea turtles.
