When the text came in about an injured mama Egyptian Goose, Loreta Frankonyte and I headed out right away. On day 1 we were not successful because the goose kept retreating to the water, so on day 2, we brought my kayak, and lucky we met Rod - a really nice guy who joined this rescue and helped us accomplish it successfully. So many people leave fishing lines and hooks behind and it's terrible... the animals get injured, and usually, they don't get help because they fly away and it's nearly impossible to get them (we're just super determined). If you see trash that may harm animals, please dispose of it properly so no one gets injured. Some rescues require patience and Katie came to this rescue lots of it in order to save Sherm 😊👍 Today I wanted to remind you all to please take the first step at creating your own will to protect your pets here: https://www.freewill.com/HopeForPaws A few months ago, a really nice man contacted me about creating his own will so he can make a plan for his cat... he didn't have family nearby who would take his cat, no friends who wanted to take her in, so he asked me if I would be willing to assist and I agreed that when the time comes, I will find her a loving forever home. It was just important that everything will be in writing, and Free Will gives you the ability to write a legally valid document that will protect your pet. Since then, his medical condition got more serious, and a couple of weeks ago he decided that he needed my help sooner than he expected... he didn't want to take the chance that he will end up in a hospital and I wouldn't have access to his cat. I did the long drive to his home, and we finally got to meet in person. His cat is really nice, and after he said goodbye to her, I took her to the hospital for a checkup, and a day later she was already in a beautiful foster home ❤️ Please, please, please make plans for your pets. Most people don't want to think about it, but it is so important because life is just so fragile. We received a call for help on the #HopeForPaws emergency line about a kitten in court who needed someone to defend her and save her life. Katie McKittrick and Alex Babcock rushed over and thanks to them, Courtney will not have to serve any time (on the streets, at the shelter, or at the pet cemetery). Some rescues are relatively simple, but they are urgent! Yesterday was one of the worst days of my life... I was called to rescue a dog, and even though I was told that he was not seen in the past two days, I wanted to scope the challenging location in the mountains because I figured maybe the dog is just scared and hiding. This rescue mission turned out to be a complete nightmare because once I spotted the dog hidden in the bushes, I realized I was just looking at his lifeless body 😢 A scan for a microchip revealed nothing, there was no collar with a name tag, so the owner of this dog (if there was one), will never know what happened to their dog. Please make sure that your pet is microchipped, and just as importantly, MAKE SURE the microchip company has the correct contact information for you! So many animals will get lost during the 4th of July, so please keep your pets safe. Also, if you don't know your pet's microchip number, please call your vet clinic right now, write it down, ask for the microchip company's number, and then call the microchip company to verify the information is there and that it is current. Scout was very lucky that someone worried about him, contacted #HopeForPaws for help, and that Katie McKittrick was able to get him to CARES. The medical team worked together with the cardiologist, and I am very happy that Scout was adopted right away and will not have to spend the rest of his life on the streets. It is estimated that there are 70,000,000 stray cats out there. Surviving alone without help is so hard, so especially now that temperatures are going up, please leave a bowl of fresh water out for cats. In your yard, outside your workplace, they are everywhere - even if you don't see them. Most of them are scared of people so they move around at night, and it would make them so happy to find water or even some dry cat food. Marianne was abandoned with her friend. Animal Control managed to capture the friend and take him to the shelter. The first thing I asked JoAnn Wiltz to do is to locate that dog so we can reunite them, but since the public has a higher priority than rescues at the shelter, a private party was able to adopt the dog, and unfortunately (due to their privacy policy), they wouldn't share the adopter's contact information. It's almost Halloween and we received a text on the #HopeForPaws line for a kind couple who fed a homeless cat they named #Grimm 🎃 JoAnn Wiltz and her friend Dominique headed out and met this cat who had a pretty sad coat, he had a huge abscess on his back, terrible dental disease, and sadly he also suffers from FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus). It was so sad to see the #chameleon the day JoAnn got him, and it was so cool to see him today after he healed so nicely. #BobRoss is not native to California and he wouldn't have survived out here. Also, his rotting tail could have caused an infection that would have killed him.
