Multiple Organ Surgery Puts Bailey's Life on Pause (Barely Breathing Ballerina E3)

Bailey Vincent has been on the brink of major surgery many times, but this moment is like nothing she has ever dealt with before. In this episode of “Barely Breathing Ballerina”, Bailey faces an unprecedented challenge – 3 consecutive complex surgeries in one day. At 5:30 AM Bailey, with her husband John at her side, arrive at the hospital for admission. She has had a rough night. The pain from the pre-surgery medications have kept her from sleeping which is not the way she wanted to prepare her body for the most complex combination of surgeries she has ever faced. Minor complications from her previous two surgeries have led to this moment where several organs at once now need to be addressed. Even though John has been through this with Bailey before, he is understandably concerned, while also awed by her positivity. “My wife is amazing’” he says, proudly. “She’s going into this scary thing that could very well be life altering, but she’s still her.” Bailey knows these events are never easy on her family but she does her best to prepare her two daughters by sharing special moments, getting them little gifts, and going over their schedules. John will be her voice, relaying updates to the girls and to Bailey’s parents so they won’t worry. There are so many unknowns but Bailey has done her best to put John and everyone else at ease. “Today she was bubbly and cheerful and making me laugh,” he reflects. “It calms me down, which shouldn’t be her role on a day like this.” A hug, kiss, a few words of encouragement from John, and Bailey is wheeled away. See how she does and what it means for her future in this suspenseful episode. US Marine Helicopter Gunner, Amputee, Athlete, and Model - Kirstie Ennis6m10s

US Marine Helicopter Gunner, Amputee, Athlete, and Model - Kirstie Ennis

Marine Kirstie Ennis grew up with military parents and always knew she would join the Marine Corps and it was no surprise when she did at 17. She became a Helicopter Door Gunner, "...the most bad to the bone job in the Marine Corps you can possibly have." While she was serving in Afghanistan, a mission to transport fellow Marines and supplies became a life-changer. Kirstie's copter crashed and she suffered multiple injuries, including the loss of her leg. During her recuperation, she turned to sports for motivation and found a way to help others. She took on the challenge of climbing the 7 Summits (the highest peak on seven continents), extremely challenging for anyone, much less an amputee, and raised money for the non-profit, The Waterboys, who bring clean drinking water to communities in need. When she successfully reached the summit of Denali, the highest peak in North America, she also raised funds and awareness for the Building Homes for Heroes program. But Kirstie isn't close to being done. Most recently, she participated in the "Pin-Ups for Vets" calendar, where she faced her loss of self-esteem due to her injuries. "Its taboo to sexy, taboo to be attractive if you're in a wheelchair, or you're in a prosthetic, or you're disabled. I was fearful. I want to be the one where people can own their differences." Follow her journey of recovery and learn how she has regained her confidence while being a role model for others who also face these difficult circumstances. Cyber Role Models - Teaching Kids To Be Better People, Online And Off4m14s

Cyber Role Models - Teaching Kids To Be Better People, Online And Off

“Is it true? Is it kind? Is it you?” Do you think to ask yourself these three key questions before posting anything online? Dave Anderson and Blake Fleischacker, the co-founders of My Life Online, think you should. They would like to help kids around the world to be safe, smart, and kind online. This is a huge challenge with the flurry of advancements in technology and younger and younger kids getting access to powerful communication tools without any clear guidance on how to use them. Having worked is schools, Dave and Blake saw the need to develop a way to get everyone thinking about how they talk to each other online. Their program, My Life Online, is a worldwide education platform that includes in-school workshops, Media Literacy curriculum, and programs for parents in an effort to bring students, educators, and parents together on the topic of Social Media. Joanne Strzemecki, a Certified Presenter, is seeing encouraging results where the kids are taking what they heard in sessions held at school and talking about it with their friends and at home with their parents. “I have seen behaviors change in terms of what students may or may not do, what they may or may not post, and the way they treat each other online.” Ultimately, the goal is to educate kids so that they won’t regret something they did on a screen, or online, that doesn’t match up with who they are as a person. Dave feels that the key is having the awareness to bring the empathy from their face to face communications to the online world. “When they are posting”, he suggests, “they are in their mind imagining the potential emotional response of the other human being who is receiving those words.” Is it true? Is it kind? Is it you? - My Life Online gives them a good place to start. To learn more, visit them at: https://topyouthspeakers.com/mlo/ Welcome to OnlyGood.tv! Looney Toons Collector Has The Most Bugs Bunny's We've Ever Seen6m25s

Looney Toons Collector Has The Most Bugs Bunny's We've Ever Seen

Do you have something in your life you are so passionate about that you would be willing to dedicate time, money and space to? If your answer is a resounding "Yes!", meet Laurence Sheinman, whose passion for Looney Tunes cartoons, particularly Bugs Bunny, is so over the top it will have you asking, “What’s up Doc?”. That rascally rabbit has always had a special pull on Laurence. ”Bugs Bunny has the cool of Humphrey Bogart and a dash of Jerry Lewis vaudeville,” he says. It’s that connection to a character that is at the heart of this premiere episode of the new OnlyGood TV Series, “Passions”, which is all about people and their unique hobbies, skills, collections, and obsessions. Laurence doesn’t consider himself a collector – that would put him in the company of those who poo-poo anything, not in “mint-condition” – but just a guy who likes the adventure of the hunt and finding the fun things that remind him of those carefree Saturday mornings as a kid when watching the cartoon lineup was the best way to kick-off the weekend. What started out as fun outings with his wife Jessica and infant son Adam years ago, has blossomed into a collection of over 1,000 items. Big and small, ornamental and functional, valuable and just … unique. Jessica has adopted the curator role and a life partner’s perspective of the special things that draw and keep two people together. “Its harmless fun, and as long as he’s not collecting wives, I don’t really care,” she says with a laugh. ABOUT: PASSIONS Some people have a strong affinity for the things that they love…. a favorite TV show, a favorite movie franchise, maybe even a favorite cartoon character… or maybe a unique collection of shoes, dolls, baseball cards….anything that shows an extraordinary passion for something near and dear to their heart. In each episode we will meet a new person who collects a certain type of object. The audience will learn the reasons for their obsessions and what their family and friends think about their collections. Audiences will be drawn to these rare collections, and the unique personalities of the collectors. Harlem Theatre Gives Actors The Chance To Perform Classics For Their Community5m16s

Harlem Theatre Gives Actors The Chance To Perform Classics For Their Community

“We know what we are, but know not what we may be.” This poignant line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet perfectly captures the inner desires of a group of actors, directors, designers, playwrights, and technicians, mostly from Harlem, who are reaching for their dreams of being a part of the production of classical and contemporary works. The place where these dreams are coming true is The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH), a special place in the community that is nurturing a love of the classics for both those who perform them as well as those who just enjoy them. CTH proudly provides theatre-based training and live theatre experiences to Harlem youth and their families through its arts education program: Project Classics. Another appealing aspect of this well respected company is that the performances are free. Carl Cofield, Director of the recent production of Antigone, loves how this approach brings people together. “All you have to do is show up”, he commented. “Bring your best self and sit with people in your community and partake in a story.” As a company that draws much of its talent from the local area, Ty Jones, the Producing Artistic Director, notes how this creates a special connection with its audience. “The community can see itself reflected, onstage.” Since its founding in 1999 at the Harlem School for the Arts, CTH has presented a repertory of works ranging from traditional classical playwrights (Anton Chekhov, Euripides, and William Shakespeare), to established 20th century playwrights (August Wilson, Langston Hughes, and Jean Genet), to new plays by emerging playwrights. In addition to its productions, CTH also engages in robust, theatre-related programming, which include Future Classics, Playwrights’ Playground, and Revisited Classics. These free reading series act as a way to engage new audiences, invest in the artistic development of new work, and give exposure to emerging professional playwrights. “Fierce. Bold. Relevant.” is CTH’s credo, and it speaks to how they are impacting the lives of those in their company as well as their community. Non-profit Helps Wounded Vets Get Their Lives Back - Catch A Lift (CAL)10m59s

Non-profit Helps Wounded Vets Get Their Lives Back - Catch A Lift (CAL)

The Catch a Lift Fund (CAL) inspires veterans to get up and get moving again. CAL was founded in 2010, with the sole purpose of helping post-9/11 combat wounded veterans all over the U.S. recover both physically and mentally. Uniquely, CAL's service to veterans centers on physical fitness: the program pays for gym memberships, in-home gym equipment, and personalized fitness, as well as nutrition plans and a peer-support network. Do you ever wonder how veterans cope with life once they come home from combat? After being trained to be on high-alert 24/7, what's it like for them to integrate back into everyday society? It raises the question: our military members protect us, but who protects them? Over the years HooplaHa has done many stories on organizations that help veterans when they return home, but the personal origin story and mission of the Catch A Lift Fund is among the most moving we've ever covered. Catch A Lift vets are seeing and feeling results, including: * dramatic weight loss, * reduction in medications, * improved sleep patterns, and * strengthened relationships with family and friends. To some people, working out the body might not seem equivalent to a therapy session focused on the mind, but CAL participants make clear how powerful its impact can be. "For us, it's healing," says Sarah Rudder, Marine Corps Veteran, mother, and amputee. "They were able to provide me with the best therapy I've had in my life." Tracy's Rescue Mission to Save Dogs in South Texas Shelters (A Dog's Journey Home)20m00s

Tracy's Rescue Mission to Save Dogs in South Texas Shelters (A Dog's Journey Home)

In this series, A Dog's Journey Home, we'll meet the incomparable Tracy Whyatt who in 2011, decided to follow a passion of hers and help alleviate a huge problem. A lifelong dog lover, Tracy was horrified to discover that San Antonio had holding tanks for dogs to be euthanized. She took matters into her own hands and now Tracy and her husband Scott have committed themselves to these abandoned dogs by rehabilitating them and hand delivering them to their forever families. That’s how their non-profit, TracysDogs, was born. In this episode, we will see for the first time, exactly what it is like at these Brownsville Texas Animal Shelters, over-run with too many dogs, many injured and unhealthy... and without homes.. and facing sure euthanization. We will follow Tracy and Veterinarian Dr. Lori Curd through the painful process of choosing which dogs she will take back to her Rescue to rehabilitate for adoption...and which dogs...knowing that most she does not take, will be put down... she must leave behind. On this trip, she will pick 30-40 dogs to bring back to her rescue. It's an emotional struggle for Tracy during these shelter visits. “I have to take in what people want to adopt. It’s a very hard day for me because if it were up to me, every single dog you see in this shelter would be in the back of my of my van whether it was a Pit Bull, a Chihuahua, a German Shepherd, a Shar-Pei... I love all of them.” It’s a constant battle between her head (which dogs she can get adopted).... and her heart! But at the end of Tracy’s day, there is joy in what she does. “When I pick that dog up from that kennel and put him in the back of that van, I know that that dog is headed for a better life, a happy life, a life they probably would not have if we didn’t come down here and do this work.” To learn more about the dedicated TracysDogs team that tirelessly works to save the lives of thousands of dogs and find them proper homes across the country, visit them at: https://www.tracysdogs.com/ Welcome to OnlyGood.tv! Special Needs Baby Spurs Clothing Line - Littlest Warrior Apparel4m33s

Special Needs Baby Spurs Clothing Line - Littlest Warrior Apparel

Eric and Michelle Sullivan found out at the 20 week ultrasound that their baby had many of the signs of Down Syndrome. A few weeks later the blood test confirmed it. Despite several serious medical issues, their son Eli pulled through and began growing and putting on weight. Michelle, a photographer with a creative streak, started looking around for fun clothes for him, including those with awareness messages, but didn't find a style she liked. This was the seed that led her to create "Littlest Warrior Apparel." As Eli became more social, Michelle noticed how attentive she needed to be in order to fight for Eli to be included in activities with other kids. She quickly became an advocate for parents with special needs kids and realized that she could leverage the influence of her company to help all kinds of families with kids with different abilities. "In the beginning, when I started Littlest Warrior, I knew I wanted to be giving back in some sort of way". Starting from this core idea, Michele established a company policy that donates 10% of their profits each month to a family in need or a supporting foundation. A family with special needs kids have high expenses and this generous donation is making a difference in their lives. Her wish that every kid with special needs be loved and included is embodied in the company tagline – “Spreading joy, awareness and inclusion.” Through her love and generosity, this wish is coming true not only for families she supports, but for her own family as well. Eric and Michelle are also growing and thriving as parents of their special boy. "Eli, he's the cutest kid in the world. He is the light of our life and a joy to be around.
