Some jerk hauled his junk couch to the desert and dumped it rather than taking it to the public dump site. Someone has since cleaned up this mess. I think probably the 4WD club that was headed out as I returned.

I managed to get a couple of the starting waves at the Rabbit Creek Race near Murphy, Idaho.

I broke my leg a bit more than 5 1/2 months ago. With all that time on the couch, I've had very little opportunity for a good workout. I did go on a 60 mile ride after about 5 months but it was easy, all roadwork. This ride felt good but I am really out of shape. One thing, I don't have a problem with fear.

Midsummer ride to Succor Creek

Poison Creek Station was a stagecoach/Freighter stop in SW Idaho. Hotel, watering hole, whorehouse and blacksmith shop.

I've ridden along the base of this ridge for years. It's nearly in my back yard and is a part of my regular workout route. I always assumed I was seeing a game trail though it's likely only mountain goats or perhaps bighorn would traverse such a steep slope. I recently became aware that Graveyard Rim is still tilting upward and that I have been seeing a fault line where new rock is constantly being exposed. It may be worthwhile to walk the fault and look for agate, jasper, geodes or even crystal

I took my Spot X Satellite Communicator out to the hole where I broke my leg to see If I could send text to email and cell phones. It checks for GPS every 5 minutes and the biggest lag I found between send and receive was 8 minutes.

Nothing race pace, I tried to favor the leg and not plant it in the corners. I'm badly out of shape after 5 months on the couch. The knee is really weak. It was good to be on two wheels and in the desert again though I did have a tendency to do too much rubbernecking.

Occasionally, I include a pass across Rattlesnake Ridge in my workout loop. From there, I can see a girlfriend's house about 20 miles away. BTW, I have never seen a rattlesnake on the ridge but that's not to say they aren't there. This part of the country has some big ones.

I have the Rare Breed FRT-15 functioning with 5.56x45 NATO Brass Ammo. The Fostech Binary trigger is working with steel Case 7.62x39 Ammo and my new Semi-Auto 5.56 rifle is functioning with either steel or brass case.

Cowpies are a common hazard in open range.

I haven't had much chance to get out and shoot my Uberti 1847 Colt Walkers. I took along a Pietta 1851 Colt Navy. Lots of cap jams with the Walkers, one misfire, no dropped loading levers. If the weather holds, I'll do that again!

Part 1 had a lighting problem, I think the start switch didn't make good contact.

I rode down into the Canyon and back.

The last of five 4 mile loops to check calibration of the speedometer. Over a 20 mile run around a 1 mile square block. It was 58 yards off in 20 miles but I cut the corners a bit. That could have amounted to 12 yards per mile. 8.7 Ft. per corner, that works out to a 5.5 Ft. Radius at the corners though I didn't really try to square it off. Sounds about right. I'm going to say the speedometer is pretty dang accurate. The magic number I'm using is 2122 for an 80/100-21 tire.
