The Quaker Bible, officially A new and literal translation of all the books of the Old and New Testament; with notes critical and explanatory, is the 1764 translation of the Christian Bible into English by Anthony Purver (1702–1777), a Quaker. The Great Bible was published in 1539 which marked the first time an official version of the Bible, sanctioned by King Henry VII, was available in English, but only in churches. Noah Webster's revision of the King James Version, (more commonly called Webster Bible) focused mainly on replacing archaic words and making simple grammatical changes. Noah Webster (1758-1843) has been called “America’s Schoolmaster”. He was the author of several books that were widely used in schools in his day, including spelling-books, grammars, histories, and his famous dictionary, An American Dictionary of the English Language (1828). Here we have to do with his revision of the King James Version, a work that he began around 1831.

The Contemporary English Version (CEV), an easy to understand Bible, that uses everyday words and phrases. The CEV was published in 1995 by the American Bible Society.

The Recovery Version Bible is the work of Living Stream Ministries who have used primarily the work of Witness Lee with supporting material from Watchman Nee. It's a word for word type of translation using both the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia and the Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament, as well as the work of other Bible versions. The ERV Bible has been developed over a period of 30 years. Published 1989, with a major revision in 2015. Written at a third grade reading level, using short sentences and everyday vocabulary, they state that this translation is one of the easiest to understand English language versions ever published. The ERV uses simpler vocabulary and shorter sentences while maintaining the integrity of the original texts.

Myles Coverdale's Bible in English was first published in 1535. It was the first complete English Bible to be published, and then placed by King Henry VIII in over 9,000 churches across England.

In 1526, with immense pressure against him from the English King and church, William Tyndale published the first English New Testament. Tyndale determined to give the English people a translation of the Bible that even a plowboy could understand. Tyndale exhorted that it was in the language of Israel that the Psalms were sung in the temple of Jehovah; and "shall not the gospel speak the language of England among us?...Ought the church to have less light at noonday than at dawn?... Christians must read the New Testament in their mother tongue.” Betrayed by a false friend and sentenced to death, Tyndale was strangled and burnt at the stake in 1536. His New Testament translation went on to profoundly influence many future English Bibles. His death speaks loudly of the cost paid that we might have an English Bible today.

All but forgotten today, the Geneva Bible, born out of persecution and bloodshed, was the most widely read and influential English Bible of the 16th and 17th centuries. The Geneva Bible is unique among all other Bibles. It was the first Bible to use chapters and numbered verses and became the most popular version of its time because of its extensive marginal notes. These notes, written by Reformation leaders including John Calvin and others, were intended to help explain and interpret the Scriptures for the average reader.

Published in 1755 by John Wesley, the New Testament with Explanatory Notes provides verse by verse notes on the text that are concise and focus mainly on providing a historical context for the Gospel, alongside interpretation and critical commentary. Wesley states in the preface, that the book is intended to ‘assist serious persons who have not the advantage of learning, in understanding the New Testament’. It gives us a great deal of insight into his theology and way of thinking, as well as setting out the evangelical doctrines that the Methodist Church still follows today.

The Bible is the most translated book in the world, with more translations being produced annually. According to Wycliffe Bible Translators, in September 2022, 3,589 languages had access to at least a book of the Bible, including 1,248 languages with a book or more, 1,617 languages with access to the New Testament in their native language and 724 the full Bible. The New Living Translation (NLT) is a translation of the Bible in contemporary English. Published in 1996 by Tyndale House Foundation, and then updated in 2004. The New Living Translation used translators from a variety of Christian denominations. The method combined an attempt to translate the original texts simply and literally with a dynamic equivalence approach used to convey the thoughts behind the text where a literal translation may have been difficult to understand or even misleading to modern readers.
