"Eric Rohlfing is an excellent Architect. In addition he is also an excellent hands-on craftsman. I personally have had the opportunity to observe his work in Thousand Oaks, CA. I watched as he remodeled a single story home that when finished was a two story home. He also installed in that home a unique solar power plant. In addition, he personally installed tile, unique stone walkways, cabinets, showers, landscaping, lighting and many other features. Needless to say it is one of the most beautiful and functional homes in the neighborhood. If an Architect is needed, I would strongly recommend ENRarchitects, they are knowledgeable hands-on professionals with great attention to detail" Jim, neighbor This family of six, and their two Labradors, completely renovated their 1977, 1-story, 3 bedroom, 2-1/2 bath tract home in an Eichler Development neighborhood, adding a new 2nd floor office, balcony, bedroom, bath and large storage room. As designed by ENR architects, the entire home & landscape were remodeled, while the family occupied it throughout the process. The 1st phase sealed off the bedrooms, bath, and kitchen, from the remainder of the house, while the master suite and 2nd story addition were completed. During the 2nd phase, the family moved into the new 2nd floor bedroom and master suite, while the kitchen and bedrooms were remodeled. Lastly, both front and back landscaping, hardscaping, pool and spa were remodeled. The resulting kitchen-dining-family room spaces are now open, spatially interconnected, spacious and sun-filled. The 2nd floor features a large office, full width covered balcony, spacious bedroom, bath and walk-in attic storage. The office faces south with dynamic, private views of the pine/pepper-covered hillside and pool deck. Seven ventilating skylights and clerestory windows were added, filling baths, gathering spaces, stairwells, and the kitchen with natural light and ventilation. Cast in-place, tinted & textured landscape retaining walls, curbs and decks were added to the front and back landscape, providing comfortable, attractive pathways, seating and planters. Pool equipment was relocated and updated with WIFI-accessed, digital pump, valve and landscape lighting controls. Tinted, smooth concrete columns were installed at the new balcony and patio trellis, providing a reminiscent hint of the ancient Roman Forum. Wholehouse, programmable ventilation cools the home in minutes, taking advantage of the comfortable, local evening temperatures. Emergency circuits and a gas generator platform were added, as the backup system for future energy blackouts. Solar electricity and waterheating were added atop the south-facing 2nd floor, not visible from the street. We relocated the HVAC to the ample attic and recomposed the bath & reach-in closet into a more spaciously pleasing, well lit and amply ventilated space, including a new spa tub. The new Master Bath enjoys a 10ft square space, symmetrically lit with a cove skylight. Contemporary fixtures and finishes were smartly chosen including a floating cherrywood vanity, engineered marble floors & counters, satin nickel hardware and full width mirrors. A unique feature is the indirect cove lighting, which continues the diffuse ambient sky lighting after sunset and is designed to bathe the mosaic travertine tile walls with light. The new walk-in master closet can be accessed directly from the bathroom and contains built-in cabinets & shelving. A young, Rancho Conejo (Newbury Park) family sought to enlarge their living space with the addition of a 400sf game room/media room, and were willing to give up some limited patio space to do so. We kept the west side of the patio & mature trees for afternoon entertainment under filtered sunlight. The new game room addition adjoined the kitchen with a wide opening, essentially doubling the size of the existing kitchen/breakfast space. The premier ridge skylight over the pool table enlivens the game room with diffuse daylight throughout the day and features ambient evening lighting. The favored existing bay window was simply relocated to the new south wall. The east wall is composed of a built-in entertainment center punctuated with accent windows. A new pantry storage closet is tucked into the NE corner.

The original layout and misc. former remodels, left the living space, and view to the sand and waves, constricted by an enclosed galley kitchen. Also, the former linear stair and awkward side entrance consumed valuable space and limited the functionality of the living room and dining room. ENR arcchitects, the project management team, and Roth Development Group, general contractor, removed the kitchen from the beach front view, placing it at the opposite end of the living space, which enabled the entire expanse of the view to be framed in glass and crowned with a cantilevered wood trellis. The former covered porch was enclosed with atrium glass to enlarge the living room, adding 180 sf. The kitchen space is now completely transformed into an open, naturally lit, contemporary peninsula command center that bathes in the ocean view through the new living space. The side entry niche space was converted into a Bar & Laptop desk, keeping a secondary side entrance, fitted with a brightly lit French door. The linear stair was compacted into a winding L-shape, including an accent window, and now provides direct access to the living space, enabling the former dining room to be transformed into a home theater space. The entry was relocated to the street side and features a mahogany 6 ft. French door/sidelite combo with a continuous view through the house to the beach that is introduced from the street through a new landscape arch and the fresh, smooth-troweled, tinted plaster house facade. Their dream was to convert the former 25-horse ranch, into a 6,000 horsepower, 12-space, sports car collection, including an attached, Guest Suite & Office. The 1-story, 2,200sf existing home & 2-car, 530sf garage, now has an additional 2-car garage, 2-car covered parking, 8-car showcar garage, breezeways, office, and 2nd dwelling, as designed by ENR architects. 930sf Of living space, and 4,500sf of parking & breezeways have been added in a barn style, complimentary of the ranch neighborhood. Abundant glazing fills the spaces with natural light & ventilation through clerestory windows, bi-fold window walls, French doors, and combination windows.
