4-year-old cancer survivor virtually meets the car club that is helping her
The North Face Rally is a car club in the Toronto area that is well known for their beautiful supercars, but they are even more well known for their big hearts. They have been applauded for years for being active in their community, supporting the agencies and charities that make life happier for children and families. They have also directly supported families that are deserving of a little help. They have been called "The Fast and The Generous", after gaining a reputation for getting behind wonderful causes.
In past years, the NFR have orchestrated one of the biggest shopping sprees and Christmas toy drives in Canada. They have donated to Sick Kids Hospital, a world renowned treatment center for children, as well as the Toronto Police toy drives, Toronto area shelters and community support agencies, and even some of the agencies in the Peterborough area. In past years they have teamed up with Brinks and delivered their donations in armoured cars for the most secure Christmas toy delivery in history.
This year, the challenges of Covid meant that they could not personally shop and deliver toys, but they did not let that stop them from working their Christmas magic anyway. Once again, they raised an impressive total and provided the agencies they support with the means to do their own shopping safely.
And in a very touching show of support, the North Face Rally has now reached across the world to help a four year old cancer survivor who has bravely fought since she was 18 months old. Johanita is now 4 and she has been through 6 surgeries for a brain tumor, 23 weeks of chemotherapy and a month of radiation treatments. She and her family are from the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador but they have moved to the city of Quito, to be near the hospital where Johanita has been treated for much of her life. Having survived the cancer, she was doing very well until she developed an infection in the shunt in her brain. Johanita needs urgent surgery to correct this, but her family has struggled with the crippling medical debt from previous treatments. Despite her father, Christian working long hours at two jobs and her mother, Johana caring for the family while he spends long weeks away, they simply didn't have enough money to pay the deposit for Johanita's surgery.
The members of the North Face Rally heard Johanita's story and they had great respect for how hard Christian has worked to bring money home to his family. All of the members of this car club have become successful through their own hard work and determination and they could identify with such a hard working father. This year, the NFR wanted to reach out and help this family across the world. They have donated $2,000 ($1,600 U.S.) to help Christian and Johana save their daughter. Excited to be part of this Christmas miracle, they met around a laptop computer to make a video call and present Johanita with a cheque and their best wishes. Speaking directly to the family in Ecuador, they were able to virtually meet the little girl whose life they are helping to save.
Christian spoke from the heart as he thanked the car club and explained their family's fight with cancer so far. He is very moved by the fact that such support would come from strangers in Canada whom they have never met.
The timing of this gift is perfect as Johanita was able to have the surgery performed the following day. Compared with what she has been through already, this procedure will be much easier for Johanita and her prognosis is excellent. Thanks to NFR and other donors, she is on her way to a healthier and happier life.
Johanita's parents will incur more debt from this surgery, despite having some insurance coverage. Anyone wishing to support a very deserving and very grateful family can visit this link: gf.me/u/y99u4d

The incredible story behind Hell's Gate
Hell's Gate is a section of the Fraser River that was deemed impassable by the early explorers. It's formidable current is breathtaking to see.
The gold rush prompted a need for railway tunnel construction to get through the narrow cut in the mountain. This construction caused a massive rock slide and wreaked havoc with migrating salmon.
A marvel of engineering created a solution for the salmon and saved the species and the fishing industry for aboriginal Canadians.

Bridesmaid hand feeds huge iguana
It was a beautiful destination wedding in Mexico and an unexpected guest showed up, much to everyone's delight. A huge iguana waited patiently for the ceremony to begin. He watched with interest until the rose petals were thrown down for the bride to walk on. Then he began gobbling them up. One of the bridesmaids actually had the enormous lizard eating out of her hand. It seems that this fellow knew what happens and this was not the first wedding he had crashed!

Baby humpback whale has beautiful interaction with swimmers
Humpback whales are among the most beautiful animals in the ocean. They inspire awe and wonder in anyone who is fortunate enough to see one up close.
These whales come to Tonga to breed and to give birth, in an environment that is safe from orcas and predatory sharks. The females have their calves in the waters that surround the beautiful islands of Tonga. They nurse them and protect them as they quickly grow big and strong before making their way to the colder waters in the north to feed on krill.
The whales rest near the ocean bottom in bays around the islands. They come to the surface to breathe and then dive again. But the babies spend more time on the surface and they are curious when they see strange creatures like these humans swimming above.
This baby is enormous, even at two weeks of age and he is playful. He rolled and cavorted and swam around the people, delighting them completely with the interaction.
Humpback whales are one of the most intelligent animals in the world. As recently as 100,000 years ago, they were the smartest creatures in existence. Today, we are beginning to understand that we share the planet with remarkably complex and wonderful beings, and yet we exploit and hunt them to near extinction.

Dad shocked by electric fence, son in tears with laughter
Dave and Chris had been feeding some cows and a big bull in a meadow on this farm. The meadow is surrounded by an electric fence that keeps predators out and keeps the cows from wandering onto the nearby highway. They were able to get into the meadow smoothly enough by using an overhanging tree branch to swing out over the fence to drop down into the meadow. But getting out of the meadow proved to be a lot trickier.
Chris jumped up and grabbed the tree branch. He swung his legs smoothly over the fence and gracefully landed on the outside. Dave was confident that he could do as well as his son and he tried the same tactic. Unable to pull himself up enough, his legs touched the fence and he got a shock. He got a foot tangled in the wires and got two more shocks before dropping clumsily onto the ground.
Chris laughed until he was in tears and he started the camera to record his father's second attempt. Dave tried to use a stump to get some extra height but he still wasn't able to figure out a way to get over the fence and out of the meadow. Chris encouraged him to make another try at the tree with a little greater effort. They both agreed that the tree branch was the best option. The gate was all the way on the other side of the meadow and Dave can't admit defeat in front of Chris.
Dave believed that the stump on the ground would help him to get higher on the tree branch and he nervously lined up his approach. Chris didn't seem convinced that things would go any better this time. Dave was thrilled to get a better grip on the tree branch and he became optimistic. He was already congratulating himself on how much better his second attempt was going when the shock caught him by complete surprise. It caused a muscle contraction that he felt from his knees to his waist and everything in between. This jolt provided him with the incentive that he needed and, even though he screamed through it all, he quickly got his legs over the fence and dropped on the outside of the fence. Pain can be a great motivator.
Chris couldn't contain his laughter and Dave felt the humor as well as the pain. He tried to explain to Chris where the jolt hit him and the two howled. In true fatherly form, Dave raised his arms in victory as if he completely nailed it.
Fathers are meant to be an occasional source of laughter for their children, maybe even embarrassment, but this was a little more than either of them had planned for.
(This cattle fence is set for a mild shock and the cattle are not harmed by what little electricity the fence delivers. The safety that it provides them is far greater than the discomfort. They are also smart enough to avoid the fence after one shock. Unlike Dave.)

Curious Cockatoo Greets People With A French Accent
Cockatoos are extremely intelligent and curious birds. They are affectionate with people and demand a lot of attention and stimulation. Sid, a sulphur-crested cockatoo, is no different and he closely examines and greets new guests. But when the time comes to greet them, he imagines he is Inspector Clouseau and switches to a French accent!
He climbs on Dave's arm and inspects him curiously while saying hello. Nobody knows how he learned to say "Allo" with a French accent or why he does sometimes does it, but he decided that a simple "Hello" would not do. Knowing that cockatoos have very powerful beaks, poor Dave was more than a little nervous about Sid's intentions but Sid is a very gentle bird.
We wish Sid would learn a bit more in French than a simple “Hello”, How about “Ca va?” (“How are you?”) or “Comment tu t’appelles?” (“What is your name?”). Even some simple stuff, like “fromage”, or “creme” or even “creppes”....those are simple words that just roll off the tongue, right? That would have been totally hilarious.
Almost all cockatoos are able to learn between 20 to 30 words; some go even further and mimic the voice of the person that taught them these words. But most of these birds just “babble”, where they spurt different sounds that seem like talking, but don’t form meaningful sentences. Still, it is pretty awesome to have a bird that can scare off intruders by talking almost like a human!
Watch this bird speak in a French accent.

Stubborn Dog Fakes Coma To Avoid Bathroom Duties In The Rain
River is an adorable family dog who is far too intelligent for her family. She is a rescue with an unknown history so her breed is a mystery. It is believed that she is part Australian Shepherd and possibly part border collie so it is no surprise that she is craftier than the average dog.
When it gets late and bedtime is approaching, River and Raven, the other family dog are given the instructions to go out for their nightly bathroom duties. Normally, they don't mind and they will obediently trot out the door, off the porch and into the grass and trees on the property. They will come back a few minutes later and settle for the night.
River is not a fan of the rain and on this particular evening, she was aware that the weather was not the best. As she was told to go outside, one eye slowly opened and then shut again. She rolled over on her back and pretended to be sleeping or in a coma, unable to respond to any voice commands. River would not open her eyes or move for anything.
Finally, River's owner decided to slide her across the hardwood floor towards the door.
Only then did River open her eyes, but the wide-eyed look of feigned shock at being pushed is beyond comical. Finally, after a few shoves across the floor, River realized that her trip to the grass outside was inevitable.
River has found her forever home after a brush with death that was closer than any dog should have. Her original family cared for her and loved her but River developed a complicated and expensive medical problem. She was brought to an emergency veterinary clinic two days before Christmas. She was deteriorating rapidly and the prognosis was not good. Her tests and diagnosis alone was unmanageable. She has a heart defect that causes her back end to become paralyzed when her heart beats rapidly. She also has a few other medical issues. Her treatment and ongoing care would be complicated and her medication costs would be extreme. River's family made the difficult choice to end her suffering and have her put to sleep. She was seconds away from her final breath when another option presented itself.
Serena, the veterinary assistant had fallen in love with this beautiful soul and she knew that she had the expertise and training to manage the dog's care. Serena's mother was also a veterinarian. Between the two of them, the treatment would be manageable. River was given a second chance and a chance for a good life.
Under strict medical care and with modified activity, River enjoys a wonderful life. She wanders with Serena in the forest almost every day. She has a large yard to play in, and she has another family dog to keep her company. River's life will not likely be as long as most dogs, but she has had three extra years now with no sign that her condition is worsening.
River is smart enough to understand how to play on the emotions of her family, and possibly smart enough to know that feigned paralysis will help her avoid unpleasant obligations, like going out in the rain.

Mother Cow's Heartbreaking Emotional Anguish After Losing Her Newborn Calf
Rosie is a seasoned mother who is about to give birth for the eighth time. She is a wonderful cow with a beautiful disposition and she has been very happy living on a gorgeous farm in Millbrook, Ontario, for more than ten years. She lives with a small herd on a wide expanse of land made up of green pastures for grazing, ponds full of fresh water, and forested area on two sides. This is an ethical beef farm where the cows wander freely and only go indoors during cold winter months. They are well cared for and they respond with affection to the farmers who spend a lot of time making sure they healthy and happy. It's life as close as possible to what nature intended for these gentle creatures.
Rosie wandered to the edge of the pasture and picked a quiet spot among some trees, away from the herd. Her water had broken and she was showing all the signs of a cow who was getting ready to go into labor. The farmers were getting ready too, and they kept a close eye on her.
Hoping to catch a wonderful event on camera, several small GoPros were set up around Rosie when she lay down. The farmers were close by, giving her the space she would need, but watching carefully. Rosie was doing fine at first, but it soon became clear that things were taking a little too long. The farmers checked and saw that calf was coming backwards and that it was not moving. They made a quick decision to help pull the calf out, a common practice when a cow needs help delivering.
As they began to bring equipment over, Rosie stood and delivered her calf smoothly on her own. The farmers rushed in and found that the calf was no longer alive. It seems to have died prior to labor, and efforts to revive it were unsuccessful. Rosie licked the calf and she watched as Dave tried to get a response from the calf. For a mother cow to allow a human to handle a calf at such a time is quite a show of trust. But is was clear that the calf was gone.
Rosie was given a few hours to be with her calf and adjust to the fact that it was not alive. She seemed to know immediately and she bellowed and paced and then licked the calf repeatedly. Her anguish was heartbreaking and even the other cows came to see what had happened. With touching gentleness, a few slowly approached and hung their heads. Rosie was upset and wouldn't allow them close and they slowly walked away. Eventually, the farmer buried the calf and left the pasture himself.
What happened next was agonizing. Rosie walked to the top of a hill overlooking the herd and she bellowed repeatedly, hanging her head and looking completely lost. Then she walked around the meadow, straight to each of the other calves, sniffing any that were black, as hers had been. She ignored the tan and the white calves, sniffing each black or dark grey calf and then heading to another. It was clear that she was looking for her own calf and hoping desperately to find it among the herd.
Rosie stopped occasionally to let out loud and pathetic bawls that echoed over the farm. That evening, after the sun had set, she continued wandering and crying, letting out bellows that the farmers could hear all through the night. The other cows occasionally let out soft bellows in response, but for the evening and through the night, Rosie's voice was almost all that could be heard.
Cows have emotional attachment to their babies, as well as to the other cows. It seems they are even attached to certain humans, if they have been treated well and have learned to trust them. They seek out affection and they seem to remember kindness.
If these lovely animals are capable of such emotions then they definitely understand when they are being mistreated. The majority of farmers treat their animals well, despite what we see in the media when cruelty is exposed. It is very easy for anyone who chooses to eat meat to find ethical farms. Doing a little research, or visiting the farms personally can make this choice easy. The best farmers are proud of how they run their operations and they will happily explain what they do to make sure their animals are treated correctly. Ethical beef might cost a little more, but simply looking for the lowest prices encourages farmers and suppliers to cut corners and sacrifice the care of the animals.
Buying from a farmers you know will also support local business, reduce transportation cost and it will decrease the impact on the environment. Cruelty-free meat is not hard to find and the slight increase in cost will support those who are doing things right.

Baby elephants & mothers dive underwater while crossing river
Elephants thoroughly enjoy water. They bathe in it, lounge in it, spray it on themselves to cool off or get clean, and they happily wade or swim on a hot day. These elephants wanted to cross a river and they walked into the water and headed for the other side. But along the way, they did something beautiful. They began to submerge and swim under the surface. At times, they held their trunks high above the water like a snorkel and at other times, they completely disappeared, holding their breath before surfacing moments later.
The elephants bobbed and turned, pushed and played with each other, much like human children do in the water. To see these gorgeous and majestic creatures having such a good time is heart warming. Once at the other side, they gathered and stood at the river bank. An occasional bellow could be heard and once or twice, a spray of water erupted from their snouts, although it wasn't captured on video. But what we can see here is the elephants venturing out happily into the water again for more fun.
These two large elephants each have a baby here and the other one belongs to another mother elephant who was nearby at the time. Elephants are very protective of their young and will keep a close eye on the babies for as long as two years. They work together as a herd to assist in child rearing and protection. The calves will almost exclusively drink milk from their mothers for the first two years, consuming three gallons of milk per day. Even though they will start eating plants after two years, they will continue to nurse as part of their diet for up to ten years.
Powerful and enormous, they have incredible strength. But elephants are also exceptionally affectionate and intelligent. Gentle creatures, females and young elephants live in herds of eight to 100 individuals. Males are more solitary and can be territorial, and occasionally unpredictable if they feel threatened.
Like many large and majestic animals, the elephant is an endangered species in most areas. Hunting for ivory and trophies has decreased their population at an alarming rate. Doing what we can to discourage the ivory trade is crucial to ensure that these amazing creatures are with us for years to come. We must also protect their habitat and food supply.

Gentle giant bull politely begs for treats
This is Gus. He's a big bull with a big appetite, and he loves bread most of all. What's surprising about him is that he's a fully intact male bull who wighs 2,000 pounds, but he's as friendly and gentle as a pet dog. By nature, bulls are usually grumpy, aggressive and not to be trusted. It's never wise to turn your back on one or to put yourself in a position where you could be injured. They have enough power and strength to do a lot of damage in a very short time if they chose to.
But Gus is an exceptional bull. He was raised on a farm where he had a lot of interaction with people right from birth.
Gus developed an appetite for grains of all sorts, especially bread. This is not unusual for cattle, and Cornell University even did an extensive study to determine the effects of feeding cattle bread and other baked goods. The result was that the animals did very well on a diet that was very high in bread. Gus' taste is not that unusual. What is unusual is the way he will approach someone for a slice of doughy goodness. He literally begs like a dog would beg for a slice of sirloin.
Chris is meeting Gus for the first time. The farmer who owns Gus is fine with him having visitors, and with him being hand fed. Chris has been given some instructions on how to approach this enormous animal, and Chris, a biology student, has extensive experience with animals of all kinds. Armed with a loaf of multigrain bread, Chris is all set to make a new friend.
Predictably, Gus saw the opportunity for a treat and started a fast walk toward Chris. It's one thing to warn somebody that he's a very big boy and another thing to see it for yourself. Chris laughed nervously as Gus closed the gap and opened his cavernous mouth. A tongue, longer than seems possible, shot out and wrapped around the slice of bread like a large hand. The slice of bread completely disappeared and seemed to be gone with three quick chews.
In this video, we see Chris shoveling bread into Gus as fast as he can. In comparison, these slices of bread would be like a cracker for us, and an entire loaf is a reasonable serving for Gus. Although Gus is enjoying the breed immensely, he doesn't get pushy. He sniffs at Chris and at the bag and he politely waits to be hand fed each slice. He even allows Chris to pat his head throughout the encounter, as if he is a large puppy.
Gus likes people and he's friendly enough, but he's quick to return to the herd to graze with the other cows when he sees that the treats are gone.

Wild Doe Introduces Her Fawn To Woman Sitting In The Forest
When a woman sat almost motionless in a forest full of wild deer, something magical happened. A herd of grazing deer were passing close enough to see her. They became very curious and started to wander closer. They sniffed the air, pawed the ground, circled, and watched her from a distance. Wild deer are understandably cautious, especially when the does have their fawns with them. This is a very secluded forest in northern Ontario where the deer are protected and cannot be hunted. It is a great expanse of wilderness where the deer are unlikely to see humans, aside from those who live here or have a cottage here. They have not learned to fear people and they will never suffer as a result of this amazing trust.
The people in this area feed the deer occasionally, especially during very harsh winters. It is difficult to resist those eyes and the beautiful faces, but mostly, the deer are left to fend for themselves and live naturally.
Kristy has learned that by sitting extremely still and being silent, the deer will eventually become curious and will venture close, as they do on this day. The fawns are especially curious and they come so close that she could reach out and touch them. They sniff all around her and try to look at what she might have in her hands.
Until the deer become completely relaxed, Kristy keeps her head down and stays silent. After they decide that she is no threat to them, she is able to move or look around and enjoy the magical experience that most people can only dream about.
Kristy has always had a way with animals and has found that with enough patience, and a respectful approach, most animals will realize that you mean them no harm. Curiosity overcomes fear and they will often act as if you are not there.
These deer became so unconcerned with her that they walked around her, grazed on the grass and even lay on the ground nearby.
Spending time in a beautiful forest surrounded by deer is a truly magical experience.

Camera dangled overboard in shark infested waters records beautiful footage
Sharks are a crucial and very welcome part of the underwater world. Without them, our oceans would be in serious trouble, as would all life under the waves, and even life above the surface. We need them. We also admire them and live in awe of them. But many of us still fear them. They are capable and formidable predators and we understand that they could cause us great harm with little effort. Yet, they rarely attack humans and we are safer in the water with them than most people would believe.
These scuba divers are anchored at a remote site off Darwin Island in the Galapagos. The boat has left civilization to take these adventurers to an uninhabited corner of the planet where life has evolved and changed on its own schedule, largely unaffected by the world around them. Sharks rule here and they swim in these waters in massive numbers. Galapagos sharks, hammerheads, and silky sharks like these keep the population of many other creatures in check. Even orcas roam freely here in the surprisingly cold currents that converge near the equator.
The scuba divers on this boat have been enjoying a magnificent underwater theatre full of hammerhead sharks, whale sharks and schooling fish. They enter the water and then return to this boat which serves as their floating hotel while the explore one of the most stunning and beautiful places imaginable. But as they rested between dives, they noticed that the water around their small cruise ship was full of sleek, grey animals. Initially, they thought they were watching dolphins that had come to visit. Yet the large creatures didn't surface as dolphins would. They dangled a camera overboard on a piece of string to capture footage of their visitors. When they watched the footage, they were thrilled, and a little intimidated to see that the figures below were curious sharks that patrolled curiously just beneath their boat.
These are silky sharks and they are abundant in waters such as the Galapagos. Aggressive and persistent hunters, they are potentially dangerous to humans who carelessly venture too close, but attacks are rare and seasoned scuba divers know to keep a respectful distance and to avoid being too close to the sharks' food sources. These large animals grow to a length of almost 3m (8.2 feet) and they have powerful jaws and many rows of sharp teeth. They are one of the bolder sharks. Even dolphins show them considerable respect when their competitive hunting brings them in close contact. Like all ocean animals, they are far more agile and capable in the water than we are. Humans are well advised to show all sharks proper respect to avoid serious consequences.

Rare Albino Stingray Glides Across Reef
There are about 220 known stingray species organized into 10 families and 29 genera. Stingray species are progressively becoming threatened or vulnerable to extinction, particularly as the consequence of unregulated fishing. As of 2013, 45 species have been listed as vulnerable or endangered by the IUCN.
The particular stingray in the video is even rarer because of it's condition – albinism. It gracefully swims over the coral reef before disappearing into the ocean vastness. These divers can't help but stare in amazement at the incredibly rare moment passing them by.
Albinism by definition is "the congenital absence of any pigmentation or coloration in a person, animal or plant, resulting in white hair and pink eyes in mammals." Other definitions of albinism encompass most of the major animal taxa, but ignore the several other pigments that non-mammalian animals have and also structural coloration. For example, "Absence of the pigment melanin in the eyes, skin, hair, scales, or feathers." refers only to the pigment melanin. Because of the various uses of different terms applied to coloration, some authors have indicated that the color of the eyes is the defining characteristic of albinism.
The ocean is an amazing place, and seeing a rare creature like this one has to be a magical experience.

These two young girls have unusual wild birds at their feeder!
When people think of feeding the birds, we usually picture chicadees, finches, and blue jays. Most people put out seeds in a feeder near their windows where they can enjoy the sight of the tiny birds feasting on the treats throughout the day. Some people even put out specific seeds to attract specific birds, such as cardinals. But few people have a bird feeder like the one in this video. These two young girls love to visit their granparents' farm for many reasons. It's a beautiful home on a sprawling stretch of land, covered in forest and grass. There are lots of places to wander and explore. Another reason that they love this farm is the collection of animals and the wildlife. The nearby forest is home to a large flock of turkeys that make a morning visit to the house every day for their breakfast.
The girls spread seeds and corn out on the stump beside the house where the turkeys are sure to find it. As soon as the turkeys see the girls coming with the bucket, they come out in the open and watch. The flock doesn't even wait until they are gone before they start to eat.
There are at least thirty of these enormous birds in the flock and they have become comfortable enough to wander very close as they spread out the food. This is a delightful friendship that has developed.
Turkeys are among the largest and heaviest birds in North America. They live up to 10 years and reach a weight of 30 pounds or more. When threatened, they can run up to 25mph and they can also fly short distances. If they are cornered, turkeys can defend themselves very well with their large claws and spurs. They are more than capable of fighting off mid sized predators when needed.
Although they have very keen eyesight, turkeys cannot see well in the dark. this is when they are at their most vulnerable and they seek high branches to roost, keeping them safe from nocturnal predators.

Sneaky Crab Steals GoPro To Create Unbelievable Footage
Batwing Coral Crabs are large, edible crabs that are widespread throughout tropical waters. Its bright red shell and large claws make it hard to miss, although it spends most of the daytime tucked under coral or hidden in small caves in the reef.
This beautiful little fellow was lurking in and around a little cave under the coral in Akumal, Mexico. He was spotted by a swimmer as he ventured out to explore the world around his home. The swimmer put his GoPro camera in front of the cave and the crab wasted no time. He dashed out excitedly, grabbed it and dragged it back inside. He was left with the camera for a few minutes to see what happened.
The footage later revealed that the crab was extremely curious about the shiny camera, and possibly his own reflection. The crab moved the camera about and stared right into the lens the entire time it was in his cave. Unknowingly, the crab created the most spectacular footage of his eyes, claws and even his mouth. His mandibles move constantly as he looks thoughtfully at the GoPro. With the camera on the ocean bottom, it creates the sense that we are looking at a monstrous crab from below.
These crabs can grow to 6 inches in width across the shell. They are more likely to be seen at night when they venture out in the open to hunt for food. This adventurous fellow was seen on the prowl in broad daylight.
The crab's claws can be seen exploring the lens and around behind the camera. He seems to stare at it curiously and this provides an incredible close up look at his mouth and eyes, as well as his belly. Amazingly, every part of the crab tucks into nooks on his shell to provide a perfect armor. Even the parts of his mouth can be folded in for protection.
One of the cutest features of this little crab is the light spot on his shell behind each eye that give the impression of perpetually raised eyebrows.
It's difficult to say whether the crab's initial reaction was curiosity or whether he saw the shiny camera as potential food, but the footage that followed is priceless!

Swimmer watches in awe as gigantic humpback whale rises beside him
Tonga is one of the only places in the world that humpback whales can go to be safe from predators. Pregnant females migrate yearly to the waters that surround the 169 islands in the Republic of Tonga to give birth to their calves. The males follow because these waters are also their breeding grounds.
Humpback whales are among the most intelligent and complex creatures on earth, following behind humans and possibly dolphins. Their communication is so complex that we are only now beginning to understand how much information may be contained in a single whale song. Their repeating patterns of squeals, grunts, and pings can go on for as long as twenty minutes before beginning a second, identical loop. They can be heard for hundreds of kilometers. This very fortunate swimmer had travelled from Canada to Tonga in the hope of seeing one of these incredible animals close up. This gigantic male lay resting on the ocean bottom more than 50m (150 feet) beneath him, rising to get a few breaths of air before sinking back down. The swimmer was astonished to watch the enormous animal heading almost directly toward him. It gracefully curved and drifted up beside him, only a few meters (15feet) away.
Looking into the eye of such a magnificent and intelligent creature, it's impossible not to wonder what they think of us. If they could speak to us, what wisdom would they pass on? What questions would they ask. As recently as 100,000 years ago, they were the most intelligent creatures on earth. They have been around far longer than humans and even our human ancestors. They have as much right, if not more, than we do to live on this planet and yet they are hunted and harvested by humans for their blubber, oil, and bones.
Many countries have banned whaling but there are still countries who pursue and kill them for their carcasses, or under the guise of conducting scientific research. If we could look into their gentle eyes and swim in their presence we would likely all understand the horror of such practices. To lose these magnificent creatures would be beyond tragic!

This Diver Gets Caught In The Middle Of Shark Feeding Frenzy
The dark salty waters of the oceans hold a lot of predators. Some we know, some we can’t even imagine, but they are without a doubt far deadlier than predators walking on two or four feet. It’s only natural, we are on their turf and they have been living in that environment for as long as they can remember so they would always come on top.
But no matter the deadliness of the animal, there is only one animal that remains the most feared marine killer among humans, and it’s no other than the shark. Undoubtedly there are other bigger and meaner animals in the ocean’s depths, but humankind has grown to truly fear sharks because they have been the number one frequent gruesome killers in the shallow ends of the oceans.
But not all sharks are the same. Admittedly every one of them is after food and will stop at nothing to get to it, but some don’t pose such a threat to humankind. One such animal is the nurse shark. Nurse sharks reach a length of over 10 feet and can weigh as much as 330lbs. Despite having powerful jaws and hundreds of sharp teeth, the nurse shark is gentle in nature and is rarely a threat to humans. Swimmers and divers often encounter them and the sharks will occasionally approach humans, looking for food, or simply due to curiosity.
Despite the low level of risk, this diver’s determination to film the feeding frenzy of a group of nurse sharks is making our hairs stand on end. The sharks ignore the diver so he pets them and films them to his heart's content. What would you do in such a situation? Would you even consider entering the water while there are sharks in it? Make sure you give us your opinion in the comments down below.

Man lets snapping turtle bite him to dispel myth
To dispel a myth, this man allows a 25lb snapping turtle to bite his finger during hand feeding. This is a wild turtle that occasionally appears at the dock in a remote Ontario lake. He is the biggest snapping turtle in the area. Common snapping turtles are capable of inflicting a painful bite, but they cannot tear off a finger or snap a broomstick in half. A close relative, the alligator snapping turtle is definitely capable of doing severe damage. All snapping turtles should be treated with respect and caution. This turtle was not acting aggressively and the bite did not break the skin.
