Demon's Soul's- PS5- Tower of Latria- Areas 2 and 3- Maneater, Old Monk Bosses - Dexterity Build
Demon's Souls (2009/2020) was developed by FromSoftware/Bluepoint Games and published by Atlus USA/Sony
Out of all possible ratings: Terrible, Bad, Average, Good, Great....
My rating, based upon my playthrough experience, is: Good!
Being one of my favorite games during the PS3/Xbox 360 generation, I was quite giddy to get back into the title that started it all: Dark Souls, BloodBorne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, and the entire Souls-Like genre all stem from this legendary title. Not many games can claim success as such. But Demon's Souls can, so the question is: How does the game stand up against all the competition that has been released since? The answer is fairly obvious; it still holds its own, but the newer titles refined the formula, and in the case of BloodBorne, reimagined it to great success.
There are fair critiques that weren't feasible upon the 2009 release, such as smaller maps that are not interconnected, a somewhat disjointed story, a rather poor online implementation that works sometimes (but not as bad as Dark Souls 1), and mechanics that feel dated compared to Elden Ring and Bloodborne. Then there's the ever irritating and sometimes fatal push-move when you try to attack... But that's not a knock at all, Elden Ring and Bloodborne are the 2 best Souls games out there, full stop. But to say that it's as great as my nostalgia would lead me to believe would be cognitive dissonance. That being said, Demon's Souls is still better than other entries in the Souls series and better than all of the Souls-Like genre AFAIK. I haven't played ALL of games in the Souls-Like genre, but I have played many.
I absolutely recommend this game to anyone that likes Souls games and is curious to see how it all started, and how it's progressed since. It is an interesting ride through time.
Demon's Souls is available on PS3, PS5
Since I cover woke, there is one concerning issue that needs to stop: Body Type A/Body Type B. Stop, just stop. Call it what it is; male and female. No bullshit. That, however, is not as egregious as Wo Long asking for your preferred pronouns. Just shut up. It's ridiculous and needs to stop. Stop kowtowing to a small group of people that will never be happy with anything you do and will always demand more. "Give them an inch, they will take a mile." comes to mind.
