Gloves, gloves and more gloves! One of the most important things to do in a grid down, or disaster scenario is to NOT get injured. Protecting our digits is of the upmost importance as our need to perform manual labor will increase significantly. We need gloves, lots of gloves for a variety of jobs that will need to be accomplished. We absolutely LOVE raising our own meat chickens! It has provided us with the highest quality meat we have had in our lives. Our entire family loves Chicken night at the house. However, these latest 6-9 week Cornish Cross growers have pushed the genetic code to the LIMIT! We are having far less success with these, than we did with the normal 8-10 week variant. Less intelligent and more prone to DEATH! 18 degree difference inside the hoop house on the first day! No thermal mass or heaters installed yet. Not Bad!!

Our Broilers have arrived and there has been a few complications using the heat plates for the first time on this amount of birds. With fertilizer prices reaching over 10X the 2019 price, farmers are in for a world of hurt. That means so are we!! Expect a full 100% inflation in the next 12 month in regard to food. But there are alternatives! Direct to Farmer/Market Gardener or grow yourself where you can. Things are starting to speed up here at the homestead. We are so close to having the appropriate weather to make some great strides on outdoor projects. We are looking to get a Solar well back up pump and guess what? There are almost no batteries left outside of expensive lithium choices. IF this is the case now, I can't imagine it will get any better once summer project season begins. As homesteaders we take on the work and responsibility to provide security for our families future. We found an amazing deal out of Oregon! A blueberry farmer down there was having issues with pollination in regards to the heat and their Liberty blueberry bushes. A local man bought 500 of these bushes and brought them up this way and we got them for only $50 a piece!
