The body of Christ is global—it's everywhere, and every single person who believes in Jesus is a part of it. In today's episode of The Heart of the Matter we discuss identity in Christ and how it is expressed in our worship. We talk about the problems that have arisen within the body over a number of issues, like church on multiple levels. Join us as we talk about how we can identify who we are as children of God, uniting under his love, above all else. We talk about the idea of a global body of Christ so often that it's sometimes easy to forget that we may not all believe the same things. But if we don't allow ourselves to be challenged, we'll never understand the truth in its fullest form. One of the most amazing things about being a Christian is the ability to be a part of something so much bigger than ourselves. As an American, we’re used to thinking of our own personal faith and the way it intersects with our life as independent from that of others in America. But as we live through a time with fragile geo-politics and the prospect of a long war between Ukraine and Russia, understanding our identity in the Body and in the church is vital to discussion. The world tells us we need to do more than prayer; however prayer is going before the Creator of the universe and asking for His help and resources to solve issues. As Christians we can sometimes put all work in our hands when we are supposed to lay it down in submission to the authority of Christ. In today’s episode we talk about the war between Russia and Ukraine. We also talk on how celebrities will use their insincerity about faith and Christianity as a smoke screen for their disbelief in the power of prayer. And entertainment media outlets are guilty of covering this conflict in a very dis-informative way. Join us for the latest addition of our podcast with Special Guest: Jennah Holo, as we continue our discussion on justification. Justification provides the answer to our problem. We were dead in our trespasses and sin, but Jesus paid the price to set us free from the power of death. Before we knew Him, God was righteous, holy, and just and we were not. We could not come near him because we were separated by our sin. The justice of God demanded the punishment of total annihilation! But because of the cross, Jesus opened a way for us to be right before God by placing His righteousness on us and slaying our sin nature through His blood shed at Calvary. Because Jesus died in our place, God counts us as righteous-not because of anything we’ve done-but simply through faith in His Son, Jesus. Our societies’ understanding of the meaning of salvation is completely wrong. It’s not based on anything scripture teaches, nor is it rooted in Christian history. The idea that works play a role in salvation has never been orthodox, but today it has crept into modern theology in many forms and disguises. To solve this problem we often have to make a distinction between being saved and feeling saved, but only if we let go of feels and make an honest assessment based on what scripture actually says. Are you justified through faith alone? Does works naturally arise out of a relationship with Jesus? How does what Jesus did on the cross affect your life today? Sometimes we tend to over complicate what God made simple; obey my commands, live in the Spirit, love God first and foremost. We think if we don’t measure up to God we are under condemnation but we must heed Paul’s warning and not lose of gift of grace.
