Working on a 2006 Tohatsu 6hp outboard. It was backfiring and was super high idle from someone messing with the idle screw. The coil and fuel pump are very weak. Diagnosing a Mercury 90hp with Ron. We found that the #3 Cylinder is dead with little to no compression. It also doesn't have fire on the #1,3 & 5 cylinders. Ron said it ran but it also has a bad Stator. Maybe able to save it but at what cost. Went fishing again this week. It was cloudy fairly windy and as far as the bite. There was no bite. But, I wanted to share a few pages from a 1968 manual for a Johnson evinrude 6hp. The second page describing how the ignition system works on those coils, breaker points and condensers. The second page was scanned upside down. I am pretty certain they did it on purpose. My brother bought a Viking Battery Tester analyzer and I liked it so much I bought one too. Also, diagnosing a tilt trim problem on a 2000 Johnson 90hp outboard. Seems the trim unit had lots of water intrusion. The electric motor died. I also call Humminbird text support to setup to recieve text messages and phone calls. I was able to get calls but no texts. Once I found the setting in the phone I was able to recieve text messages.. Next, I delve into a chaotic scene with a 2000's Triton aluminum boat sporting a Mercury 50hp engine suffering from power loss. Tools scattered, starter solenoids abound, but the real culprit? It snowed pretty good here in Nashville with the start of 2024. I have an Evinrude 150hp that was brought to me. It has a hole in the boat so the boat is going to scrap. Was asked to take a look at it and see if its salvageable. I need to first get the trim unit working to get the motor down. Once I did that I was able to get the top cowl off and see what was going on. The motor was siezed and I discovered the #3 piston had exploded.
