Catalina 22 Sailboat Progress Update - Episode 8
Check out our new video! https://youtu.be/tEiaeIrj7m8
Vlog Episode 8: A quick update on our Catalina 22 sailboat that we picked up about a month ago.
First we want to send a big thank you to our buddy Matt at https://www.facebook.com/ProworxPowersports/ who has been helping us out with all this work.
We tried to connect everything and step the mast ourselves just to make sure everything was there and we ran into some problems. The first problem would probably have to be rushing into it without really knowing our boat first. Another problem was the crutch in the back wasn't high enough which we realized after watching some more YouTube Videos. We had a hard time raising the mast and when we finally got it close we noticed the screw was loose that connected the mast step to the support. After more YouTube and googling we saw that it wasn't going to be to difficult to fix but we decided we definitely need some help by someone who knows a little more about sailboats than we do.
Matt has had the boat for about couple of weeks and has made a lot of progress. The wiring has been completely updated. Two battery boxes have been installed. He put new LED salon and courtesy lights. Repaired the mast step which thankfully was an easy fix. The bilge got painted and so many more little things. Rob has been by there several times a week dropping off shopping lists of parts and things.
We took the sail to a sail maker to repair it. They were backed up by a couple of weeks so when we finally received that call, they told us it was irreparable. Our plan was to take her out on a little trip for our honeymoon but with our wedding 16 days away I don't think we will be buying big ticket items like a new sail right away.
My car broke the other day. The ball joint broke off the front right tire which made the axle to break which somehow caused the oil to completely drain out. I believe it hit the oil filter. There's a silver lining to this story I promise. This happened in front of a Firestone so the guys immediately came out with car jack and helped me move out of the middle of the road. While waiting for the tow truck, Rob came by to wait with me and we finally stepped into this teak furniture store we keep meaning to stop into some day. The owner was really nice. He saw what had happened to my car and next thing you know we are browsing his shop talking boats. Rob asked if he had some teak we could buy or have him cut for us to make the dinette table because our boat didn't have it. Next thing I see is Rob holding this piece of teak and the guy said we can have it because we were having such a bad day. Nice people still do exist!
We will update again soon. She is almost done and we can't wait to name her and put her in the water. See you all real soon!

Sailboat Shopping - Looking for a Catalina 22 - Episode 6 (Apple and Rob)
Vlog Episode 6, Catalina 22 Sailboat Shopping: Since we went to Key Largo for the introductory sailing course we both have been pretty obsessed with the idea of getting a sail boat. The instructor Jorge said that the Catalina 22 that we took the lesson on was the perfect 1st sail boat because it is easy to learn on, very trailerable and cheap. So, we started looking and looking until we narrowed it down to a couple. One in Sanford FL and the other in Jupiter. It was difficult to make appointments with either of the sellers to see the boats. The one in Sanford was a marina and the boat was on consignment and the boat in Jupiter was hard to see because the owner was always traveling for work. It worked out perfectly because it gave us enough time to list and sell one of our bikes.
I told Rob "No new toys unless we get rid of one so without hesitating he said "well, lets sell the WR250r"
I'm gonna miss her, she was fun to ride but we can always buy another one later. At least with the sail boat we can do more and have other people on there with us.
It is going to be a tough decision between the 2 boats here's why:
The boat in Sanford
is a 1977
Pros
Everything is put together
its already in the water
new everything
It has everything including cushions and the dinette table
Cons
WAY more expensive
hull wasn't in the best shape
jell coat was cracking
The boat in Jupiter is a 1983
Pros
better condition over all
wood in the interior in A LOT better condition
half the price
we can learn a lot by having to put it all together
Cons
we have to put it all together before we can use it
no cushions or dinette table
needs a paint job
We will keep you posted on which one we chose!

Sailing lessons on a Catalina 22 in Key Largo - Episode 4 (Apple and Rob)
Vlog Episode 4, Catalina 22 Sailboat Lessons: You know what I love about the Florida Keys? In just a 2 hour drive south you are in a tropical island where everything just slows down. The people are more relaxed and the wind isn’t disturbed by the sound of the city.
For Christmas I got Rob a Groupon for an introduction to sailing for 2 and we haven’t been able to use until now. We called at the Key Lime Sailing Club in Key Largo Florida early one Sunday morning after we checked that the weather and water were going to be perfect. They said they had room for a sailing at 2pm. So, we hopped on the Harley and made our way there. When we arrived, the owner greeted us with a smile and when Rob took his hat out of the bike I realized I forgot to bring mine. The owner immediately grabbed a hat for me and said to keep it.
We walked to the tiki hut by the water at the other side of the property and met Capitan Jorge. He informed us that we will be sailing on a 22 foot Catalina called “Latin Princess.” I can’t stress enough how perfect the weather was that day. It was definitely an amazing experience. We had only been on a sail boat once before in Key West for a sunset sail on a 105 foot Schooner and that’s when we knew we were hooked. When the engine shut off the wind filled the sail that was it. On the way back home I was going on and on about how we should take more lessons, sell one of our motorcycles and buy one already. Capitan Jorge was a retired cop and just inspired us. We had some great talks with him as he showed how to use the boat. The one thing he said that really stuck with us was how we need to suck it up with the jobs we don’t like because that is how we need to support our weekend adventures and that you won’t appreciate retirement unless you’ve paid your dues working hard in your life.

Tarpon River Brewing Grand Opening - Episode 5
Vlog Episode 5: When we made our way in the brewery the first thing we noticed was there was a house inside the warehouse! It had a very old Florida feel and we loved every bit of it. This brewery is the epitome of South Florida and as Fort Lauderdale as you are going to get. The owners are a joint venture between The Native Brewing Company, Riverside Market and The Restaurant People (who own YOLO, Boatyard and Tarpon Bend to name a few) so you know it was going to be good before even arriving.
It was insanely busy! I'm glad we were smart enough to take the motorcycle there because I don't think we would have found parking. The front of the "house" had a porch with little garden tables full of guests eating. To the right of the "house" was the front yard with artificial grass and all, where a one man band was playing. Further down to the right were all the tanks. If you walk through the front door you will find the tap room. It took forever to make it to the bar and be able to order a beer. Despite the craziness of a grand opening, a majority of the bartenders still managed to keep smiles on their faces when they finally were able to take your order.
We tried the Hop Stache IPA. It was light for IPA's but still a nice one. They had another IPA on the tap but it was already sold out by the time we heard it was a good one. The menu looked nice and to at least try something we just shared the mac n cheese. Maybe another night we will go back and try the burgers because they looked good. We had dinner somewhere else.
I love grand openings. I have done a few in my career as a chef. It is such a great learning experience for everyone involved. Over all I think they did a great job and I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the beers and food. Maybe during the week when it isn't so crazy. I just read on their Facebook that they do brunch! YUM

My Cousin Adopted 2 Brothers, So We Took Them To Disney
This morning was a very special morning. We went to Disney, as usual. What was so different about this day is that we are going to meet my cousin Joey. Now Joey is someone I grew up with, literally grew up with. We were born two days apart in the same hospital. So we've been close ever since. And, he just adopted two brothers! We finally got to meet them. It was their first time leaving New England, their first time on a plane and obviously their first time at Disney! And as annual passholders at Disney, Robert and I felt extremely compelled to be with them and make sure that they have the best first time ever.
I loved meeting Brauk and Blake. They fit right into the family. And to see Joey as a dad was something else. I think I was on the verge of tears most of the day. It takes a really amazing person to adopt a child, but to adopt 2, now you've moved up to a whole other level.

Motorcycle Ride to Miami Brewing Co. to Blackpoint and All Around South Florida - Episode 3
Vlog Episode 3: This ride was truly a great time. We did it on April 9th, 2017 and I'm just now getting around to talking about it and putting together some of the footage we took. Rob and I met on April 9th but we didn't become official until April 20th so we say our anniversary is on the 20th but we kinda celebrate both days! I would say this ride was pretty romantic since it was just the two of us. Rob was on his Harley and I was on the Triumph. This was the last ride we went on before I sold my bike. I will probably get another bike one day soon but for now I'm on the back of Rob's Harley.
Our first stop on this ride was to Miccosukee Resort for the breakfast buffet.
Our next stop was at the Miami Brewing Co./Schnebly Winery for one beer and a tour around the brewery and winery. It was a very beautiful place. The beer was good but we were riding our motorcycles and didn't want to drink anymore so we didn't try any wine this trip. We are planning a trip back there soon.
We made a quick stop at the Homestead-Miami Speedway but it was $20 to park then we had to pay to get in and I wasn't that interested so we moved on to the next stop.
Next we went to Black Point Ocean Grill for a snack and a cocktail. It was packed and the band was cute. They were an older couple doing covers of a lot of new music. There were a lot of bikes parked out there. Very popular place for bikers from what I hear.
Finally, our last stop was Matheson Hammock Park. Very beautiful place with amazing views of Miami and Stiltsville (https://www.nps.gov/bisc/learn/historyculture/stiltsville.htm) which is in Biscayne National Park.
We can't wait to share our next adventure where we take a ride back down to Key Largo and take a introduction to sailing course to see if we like it or not.

Ride to Hog Heaven Islamorada - Episode 2
Vlog Episode 2: The one thing we really love about the Florida Keys is that a few hour car ride will take you to the islands! And it's even nicer on the motorcycle. One Sunday morning we woke up and saw that it was gonna be a nice day out so we hopped on the Harley and drove south. It was our first time back down in the keys since hurricane Irma hit the Florida keys September 10, 2017. It was really nice to see that a lot of the places managed to come back after such devastation.
We ended up at this biker bar called Hog Heaven that had a beautiful view with a brand new deck in the outside bar. Food was good and the beer selection was great.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex - Episode 1
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex - The Adventures of Apple and Rob: Vlog Episode 1
"For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the moon and to the planets beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace," -John F Kennedy
I've been wanting to visit Kennedy space center for years now. My mom said we went when I was a kid but i don't remember. I finally got to go in May after a weekend spent at Disney. I was always pretty fascinated with outer space and all its splendor. When we got our first computer it wasn't just AOL and playing solitaire to me. I was able to look up photos of the solar system and star constellations and just couldn't believe that was all out there somewhere. So being able to see the actual rockets and space ships that went out there was absolutely insane. The arts took over as I go older and cooking became my passion but i never forgot about how space made me feel.
The space shuttle Atlantis has been transporting astronauts to space and back for thirty years. Its maiden flight was October 3 - 7, 1985. By the end of its final mission, Atlantis had orbited the Earth a total of 4,848 times, traveling nearly 126,000,000 mi (203,000,000 km) or more than 525 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon. Atlantis landed for the final time at the Kennedy Space Center on July 21, 2011.
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden announced the decision to display Atlantis at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex at an employee event held in April 2011 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first shuttle flight:
"First, here at the Kennedy Space Center where every shuttle mission and so many other historic human space flights have originated, we'll showcase my old friend, Atlantis."
The bus tour was really amazing, and our tour guide was great! It was overwhelming to be taken around these grounds to be at the same place where so many historic moment happened. Movies were based off the moments that all started here. We recommend going on this tour if you are able to. The tour guide is a little cut off in the beginning because I wasn't sure how she felt about me recording but it turned out she was ok with it.
Our last stop was to see the Saturn V rocket. The Saturn V was an American human-rated expendable rocket used by NASA between 1967 and 1973. The three-stage liquid-fueled super heavy-lift launch vehicle was developed to support the Apollo program for human exploration of the Moon and was later used to launch Skylab, the first American space station. The Saturn V was launched 13 times from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida with no loss of crew or payload.
A total of 24 astronauts were launched to the Moon, three of them twice, in the four years spanning December 1968 through December 1972.

Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show 2018
It was amazing to see how well kept these bikes were. The best part...they all run. After watching that Discovery Channel mini series Harley and the Davidsons, we really became more aware of the older Harley bikes and then seeing a 1915 that was in running condition was just amazing. The owner of the bike seemed a little upset when another gentleman asked if it ran. I just couldn't believe it when he said yes.
It was a nice little treat to see someone else start up his 1947 Harley for us.
