I'm not sure why she picked this spot. There are lots of nice grassy places to have calves, but Pepper always seems to know what she's doing,... and what do I know about having a calf anyway? Maple, one of our Livestock Guardian Dogs gets a healthy and tasty treat before the cow gets up. It's very common for them to help clean up after animals are born, but cows don't really like the dogs too close to their newborns and the dogs usually know to be calm and careful. Macey, and older sister of this new calf watches intently as things proceed. They'll be part of the same family group within the fold.

Every single day these dogs are always happy to see any of the family arrive home. Witness it for yourself as Kate walks through the door after a long day at work. Kisses all around!

Maple, Greyson and Wynter are Maremma/Pyrenees sheep guardian dogs who can often be found playing together like this. Maple a Maremma/Pyrenees Livestock Guardian dog prefers to trim her own dew claws. All our dogs wear their claws down patrolling the pastures and digging so that except for their dew claws I rarely have to clip them. I've never had to clip Maple's dew claws, and now I've discovered why. She does her own.

For some of us, the ice might be a hazard and something that we would consider avoiding. Not for this dog, he plays on it like there is no tomorrow. What a fun loving dog! You don't see behavior like this every day coming from a dog. This dog is an intelligent one that knows how to do whatever it is that he wants! Let alone the fact that this dog is having the time of his life; he also takes fun in the snow to a whole different level. Check out this dog having fun in the snow! Undoubtedly, there is nothing like when you wake up early in the morning, pull back the curtain to see a blanket of beautiful white covering everything after the first snowfall of the season. Imagine seeing snow for the first time. Everyone has experienced it but not all of us can remember it, but it doesn't make snow any less exciting when it does fall. We get excited every time we see snow for the first time, and this doggy loves it too! We are always amused to see pets encountering their first snowfall, an experience that must be amazing and fun for most of them. As you can see, these animals are very used to eating together. Highland cattle, barnyard horses, and a few sheep all enjoy some tasty hay without any problems whatsoever. These animals know that sharing is caring!

These livestock guard dogs know that if they're in the barn when their owner is milking the cows they might get a little treat as he finishes up. As you can see, there is a lineup of dogs patiently waiting for their turn!

This little puppy is a Maremma/Great Pyrenees mix that will grow up to become a livestock guard dog. But until then it is full of wonder as it meets a very friendly bison who is more than interested to play. But when the massive bison gets a little too rough, the puppy's parents spring into action, putting the bison in its place and doing their job.

While these Maremma/Great Pyrenees dogs tumble and play in the snow, one of them hears something at the other end of the field. In an instant all 3 dogs spring into action, ready to go to work. This is excellent livestock guard dog behavior; Fingal and King are out on point while Maple hangs back to protect the livestock (in this case it's their owner who is filming). We're not sure what it was they went after, but they sure know how to flip the switch!

While visiting the Alderwood Nursing Home in Baddeck, NS two ambitious puppies show the seniors in attendance what they do for a living. The future guard dogs adorably lead a Highland bull-calf from a rope across the room, leading to a much deserved applause. These puppies have a very bright future!
