Crossing Stomp Kick
Training the crossing stomp kick
CQC - close quarter combat. The Crossing Stomp Kick is an ancient kick used in Wing Chun and many other Kung Fu arts.
I use it because is a devastating kick that works well.

Crossing Stomp Kick
Why? Why train this kick? For Close Quarter Combat, this kick is designed to roll the ankle, twist the knee and dislocate or at least move very violently the hip socket joint.
Once an opponent is struck well, it moves their body to the left or right and exposes the side of the neck/head preparing the opponent for a devastating blow to end a fight for survival.

Self-Defense for Youth
Training Youth to defend themselves agains bullies.
In Cobalt, we use what works for all ages of self-defense students. Starting out, we focus on learning the techniques. As students progress, we add more - like keeping one's throat and head covered while striking.
Cobalt Self-Defense Tactics is self-defense street fighting. IT's not about the ring. It's about causing enough damage to escape a fight! Cobalt is All about "Escaping/Surviving" a violent encounter.
Escape first. Fight second if you must.

Teach Palm Heel Strikes to Little Ladies
Palm heel strikes - not your movie punches - are the safest ones to throw when defending yourself it you are striking anywhere towards the face.
The bones of the face are hard. The palms are soft. Yin-Yang principle. In street fights, striking with fists towards the face especially for women and children can result in breaking the bones in the hands which brings about a swift defeat for defenders.
In this video I teach a little lady to defend herself using palm heel strikes.

Elbow Striking, Move, Get to 6
The hardest part of striking it teaching people how to be aggressive enough to strike, manhandle their opponent and get to the opponent’s 6 O’clock position.
But we must start somewhere right?

Elbow Strike 2 Takedown ver 2
Elbow Strike 2 Takedown ver 2
CQC is about:
1. Getting in close to get out of hand/foot striking range
2. Taking the opponent’s base out from under them (takedowns & throws)
3. Causing damage on the way “in” to take out the opponent’s footing
TACTICS: what is the defender’s goal?
1. SCREAM and Run awy if can
2. Parry and get in and take opponent’s base
3. Your Decision Determines Your Actions First - Follow through
4. Flow Like Water
5. Keep Your End Goal In Mind (Escape after Takedown)

Elbow Strikes 2 Takedown v1
Elbow Striking 2 Takedown Vid 1
90% of all fights end up on the ground.
Women ought not go toe-to-toe with men in fights.
CQC means, causing great damage while looking for the opportunity to knock a guy down to the ground.
How do you train that?

Kick Defense to Take down
There are many ways to block kicks. For low kicks, it is best to block using knee strikes and countering off of those knee strikes.
Kicks to the head require a different strategy to defend against.
However, in a real fight, you never know what a kick is actually going unless it is telegraphed and you are able to read that telegraph information within 1 second.
Therefore in a street fight, I have found that using the Ryu Kyu Kempo moving cover, though difficult, to be one of the best defense against all kicks.

Practice Sweep 3
Smooth execution is what we are aiming for.
Why sweep when someone pulls your wrist to punch you? It's a way to disorient your attacker and yes you must beat them to the punch.

Beginning Rolling
When working with children who already go to gymnastic classes, use how they roll to begin rolling for self-defense.
In self-defense, we roll over one shoulder diagonally across our back so that our spine is in contact with the ground as little as possible. That is not now gymnasts are trained but do not try to change that for children immediately because it will only confuse them. Just Roll with it 😊

Kick Defense to Takedown
The beginning of kick defense to take downs is a step by step process. Can it work? Yes and No. A fight is dynamic and sweeps are faster.
However, learning how to maneuver one's body is also apart of Cobalt so we train with the principle in mind: "There are no advances techniques, only advanced body movements" meaning that as one grows there ability to control their body and fine tune their body's movements grows
