We released our #kickstarter for a new #tarot deck this week, while headlines in newspapers speak of building up a stock of #nuclear weapons around #Russia. So we ask the important question of the moment: Will there be a #nuclear war before our kickstarter ends? ### Best Hope - 11 Of Cups, Page We hope for a leader who is clever and cogent of the situations. An articulate and astute plan that is nuanced and responsive and sensitive and calming. We should hope for de-escalation. Lets see if we have that. ### History - 8 Of Wands, Swiftness Instead we just have accelerating escalation, a dreadful rush towards inevitability, the _manifestation_of the portents, the immantising of the echelon. This is MAD. But the history the world has chosen, is to have a deterrent strategy. ### External - 5 Of Cups, Disappoint So we are full of anguish and bereavement and betrayal, the external world is in calamity, and we are all feeling despondent and helpless. It's clear our leaders are failing us, in all the countries, all kinds of ways. ### Internal - 10 Of Cups, Satiety Inside we have had enough. We feel like it's an emergency and the emotions are running high. There's hazards and instability everywhere. The axis is misaligned. They are using _threats_and surveillance not just against Russia, but against us all. We should have bliss and contentment and assurance, a guarantee of harmony and joy. But instead the newspapers are filling us with emergency, and threats. Have you had enough? ### Waning - 7 Of Wands, Valour If you decide upon the strategy of using a deterrent, you have to advertise the fact. The story must be in the newspapers as surely as a cobra evolves a display hood. So you get all this bravado. Valour. But foolhardy valiant confrontation has consequences. Advertising a deterrent is inherently esclatory. There is a risk that fearlessness leads to battle. But perhaps this is becoming less important. ### Waxing - 13 Of Trumps, Death Instead, growing more important, is death. Oh dear. It's well know that the card really means, change. An ending, even a failure, but mortality is not the only outcome with loss. Breaking of the old can cause the new. It's a cliffhanger. Which way will it go? End the tensions? Or end the life? ### You, Now - 13 Of Wands, Queen It's upside down. That's not supposed to happen. I take active steps to avoid that. Some believe if a card turns upside down then, it reverses the meaning, but I dislike a messy deck of 50/50 coin-flips. The queen of wands is amazing, she is confident and creative and erotic and powerful and free. My heroine. She's fresh and inquisitive and independent. Do you feel that way? Or the opposite? Do we take the card being upside down seriously? Perhaps things could flip easily either way. The cliffhanger continues. ### Obstacles - 10 Of Pentacles, Wealth What stops us? Oh, it's the economy. The capital again. The establishment and their inherited wealth, they look after their friends and flourish. While we are at risk, their policies and pensions are the only important thing. ### Outcome - 8 Of Trumps, Strength Reports of upgraded nukes are a show of strength. Lumbering powerful military intelligences flexing, in each other's faces to get each other to back down. But these risky cliff-hangers have a downside, If we want the calming de-escalatory plan We need to show gentleness and empathy and trust, but also ensure it's our public strength which is expressed, not the bravado. ### Summary That upside down card, and the ambiguity "cliffhanger" nature of the death card, gives us a reading showing two worlds not quite resolved. A superposition. Our best hope is calm de-escalation, but instead our policy is swiftness, MAD and deterrence. All the world's leaders are clearing failing us, and we have had enough. The trouble is they have to show bravado. If you have a deterrent, you must advertise it, and that is itself escalatory. So it becomes a gamble between the two meanings of the card Death. So the world feels topsy tervy. You're fine, but also the opposite. It could go either way. The concentration of wealth and prevents any real change And so we better hope their show of strength works. Because there's already been enough death and we really want this kickstarter to be a success before the war comes and kills us all. Someone who is _wilful_ and _forceful_, but _inspiring_ and _ambitious_ who is well _respected_, _strong_, with an _instinctive_ feel for _power_. A _vital_ and _vigorous_ _knight_, _distracting_ us with _thrilling_ _unforgettable_ stunts. ### History - 11 Of Swords, Page But what we get in history is _chatty_, _gregarious_ and _loquacious_ rulers who are _unconcerned_ with the common man, _witty_ and _affable_ perhaps, but also _indifferent_ and _disdainful_. _devout_, _assiduous_ and _formal_, but _impatient_ and _irritable_. ### External - 4 Of Pentacles, Power The king is thought to be a source of _power_ but really that is all external to him. A king is nothing without _finance_ and the _institutions_ of state that give him _money_ and _security_ and allow the _conservation_ of _funding_ and _strength_. The kings face may be on the _money_, but it's the money and the state external to him that gives him power. ### Internal - 12 Of Trumps, Hangedman Internally the institution is _interrupted_ power _relinquished_ and _ceded_ from one symbol to the next is a _crisis_ for institution. It shows the _detachment_ from _reality_ and the _refusal_ to _relinquish_ or _abdicate_ or _sacrifice_. ### Waning - 3 Of Wands, Virtue We lose the influence of the old _virtuous_ queen: _fairness_ and _humility_ are on the way out. What we've been getting from monarchs is loquacious rulers indifferent to the concerns of the common man. The rulers power comes not from themselves, but from the institutions external to them, the money and strength, Internally this is a dangerous time for a monarch, when the old is dead and the new must be born. The old monarch was virtuous, but the new is debauched. This could be a moment of change, a culmination bringing about new ideas. The king must overcome these forces for changes, the progressive opposition that wants freedom And indeed he will do so, the people seek security and he is a symbol of security, his budget will ensure we all stay subjugated and his dominion is assured. His life has been comfortable and _blessed_, he is a billionaire with a bountiful future whatever happens. He will be content and cushioned and his earnings durability is assured. So ther is a guarantee of happiness and laughter and perks but probably not for everyone. Only for him. Only the capital. ### IssuesB - 21 Of Trumps, Universe The trouble with Bojo is that he promises the universe and achieves little. His promises the earth_, the _moon the galaxy_, he promises _potential but in fact never delivers anything but circular lies. ### IssuesC - 11 Of Cups, Page The trouble with Hunt is that while he's articulate and boyish and _calming_, it's all _aesthetic_. He is only in place because he is opportunistic and a _team-worker_. In the end is he just a page. Not a king. Not a chancellor. Not even really a health minister. Just a calming and eager _idealist_, too nuanced to be appealing. ### Result - 12 Of Cups, Knight So the result? We are looking for an artist who is also a _bard_, and a calm_, _charming and comforting _dreamer_. A rationalist and _realist_, a selfless soothing thinker who is tolerant and _whimsical_. It doesn't really sound like any of them. Just as equally wrong for them all. Could it be Starmer? He is an actual Knight, Which is still a thing, in this day and age, in a grown up country apparently. Could the cards be suggesting that the UK will soon have Starmer as it's leader? If you think that'll be any better. ### Summary Sunak is a rich man out of touch whose life of riches has not equipped him to understand real life. Bojo is an outside shot, a roll of the dice, trying to be leader of a conservative party. He promises the universe, but he lies. Hunt is only there by mistake, a sacrificial lamb, he's just massively out of his depth like a little page. None of these people are what the UK needs, they need an actual knight, maybe an actual Sir? So the next Tory leader will be Starmer! We'll have a Starmer flavoured blend of conservatism. This week the #uk government started moving #refugee applicants from hotels onto a #barge floating in the sea. @pre@boing.world does a five minute tarot reading and finds that the refugees are grateful to have escaped, and have much potential to offer society. But mean-spirited sullen idiots are jealous, so punish them with a purgatory of bureaucracy and confinement instead of accepting their valuable contributions. In a new-format show set in the colourful exciting virtual tarot-drome, @pre@boing.world does a five minute tarot reading on the question "What's up with the state of the world lately?" He finds that the world has oppressive elite ruling powers who subjugate the powerless and cause strife to the hidden majority. We'll use this, the worldcloud tarot happy toast deck! Every card has a beautiful drawing from the amazing cartoonist Happy Toast, and also a world-cloud with the meaning of each card written directly onto the card itself. No need to memorize the meanings, to read the tarot, you can just read. That makes these readings very transparent, you can see that the cards do mean what we say they mean. This week we'll do a five-card cross, so let's see what the cards say! ### Past - 13 Of Pentacles, Queen The first card represents History and that card is: The queen of pentacles. A _queen_, from the ruling elite. The world's _wealthy_ _prosperous_ _royalty_, or _rich_ _powerful_ _private_ _money_. The world they have built seems _useful_ and _dependable_ and _versatile_ and _reliable_. It seems _protective_ and _secure_. And it is. For them. It helps /them/ _flourish_ . But the _ecosystem_ is breaking, there's _environmental_ doom, the _workers_ are revolting. They have _attained_ and _accomplished_ _ultimate_ _glory_. They have _innovated_ into _winning_ a _momentous_ _prize_. Their _will_ and _objectives_ are bought to _fruition_. From outside it seems the powers of private money have won. They are _scoring_ the _future_ . ### Present - 6 Of Swords, Science The card for Present is - 6 Of Swords, Science Things are _changing_ this is a time of _transition_ and new _thinking_ when new _ideology_ and _philosophy_ can arise. An _amalgamation_ of _concepts_ can bring us an _innovation_ and bring _peace_, a _clarity_ of _mind_ A _clear_ new _ethic_ from _science_ and _rational_ _reasoning_ a _transformation_ of _intellect_ towards _equanimity_ New _research_, and _evidence_ based _systems_, can help _discover_ and understand the hidden strife and oppression and so bring _transparency_ and _wisdom_ to the _conflict_ . We can make a fairer more balanced system, and this present moment, now, is when we decide. ### Outcome - 4 Of Trumps, Emperor The card for Outcome is - 4 Of Trumps, Emperor A new _structure_, some new _constitutional_ _government_ A new world order, with _duty_ and _accountability_ , based on _objectivity_ _rationality_ _impartiality_ and _empiricism_ We can have the _ambition_ to _establish_ a new _honest_ _decent_ system with _equality_, _solidity_ _civility_ and _fairness_ at it's heart. Only that can give _stability_ . Only _morality_ and _merit_ and _integrity_. Because oppression only leads to discontent and violence. ### Summary The current system of powerful rich oligarchs may look just, but they rule through guns and bombs. There's hidden oppression everywhere, suffering and injustice and genocide. Externally it looks like the powerful have victory, but now we have the tools of science which we can use to understand the patriarchy's oppression, and the strife and suffering it causes, and bring about instead a new world order based on equity and solidarity and honest fairness. The _fundamental_ problem with the plan is that _conservative_ _entrepreneurial_ _corporate_ _businessman_ are _crafty_ _ideological_ _effective_ _economical_ _money_ extraction machines. The Outcome is represented by the eight Of Trumps, Strength. The _system_ of wealth extraction for those in _power_ will become more _potent_. So, bailouts for the rich, most likely. A _courageous_ _patriotic_ _sacrifice_ by the people, to produce a _generous_ bailout for the crooks who drained the company of it's entire _worth_. I mean _honestly_ , our _expectations_ for any kind of punishment of the financial criminals should be low. Not only will they get away with it, they will be _stronger_, taking our money and then being bailed out. Again and again. This is what privatisation means. The rich get strong, and the poor pay for it. ### Summary In summary then, the privatisation was sold on the lie that it would cause investment through promising rewards of financial gain for capital. But the capital is a meticulous resource extraction machine for billionaires, and the government who should constrain them are reckless ideological irresponsible felons. The result was debt, resource extraction, and bankruptcy for the company. The crooks in power will just bail out the financial criminals, leaving them stronger and us all weaker. This week the UK government is once again talking about cancelling railway lines because it costs too much money. The UK spends ten times more per mile to build railways than all the other countries. The loving relationship between government and business and the idiot members of parliament have led to this bright star of collusion between those idiots and the private enterprise. The peace is _relinquished_. Under attack people _cede_ the peace and _suspend_ their good will, they _forego_ _insight_ and _denounce_ instead of forgive. Their _devotion_ leads to _suspension_ of law, to _disdain_ in their _perception_ of other's _viewpoints_ . To _indifference_ and _detachment_ . People feel _nonchalance_ for _implications_ which makes them _abdicate_ reasonableness and _abandon_ peace. Inevitably, it leads to _disaster_, _catastrophe_ . Escalation. ### Outcome - 5 Of Cups, Disappoint The final slot tells us the outcome, and that is the five Of Cups, Disappoint. When people abandon care for consequences, and seek revenge for oppression instead of furthering the peace, they will be disappointed. They are heading for _calamity_ . The cycle of _injury_ and _revenge_ leads to _bereavement_ , _sorrow_ , _despair_ , _trauma_ ,_sadness_ _misfortune_ , _heartache_ , _misery_ , _anguish_ and _loss_. Each escalation leads to more _frustration_, _treachery_ and _disappointment_ and yet more _dismay_ _desperation_ and _unhappiness_ The outcome of losing sight of your enemy's humanity is _deception_ _weariness_ and _regret_. ### Summary Relations between the nations was more diligent and opportunistic than friendly, but purposeful peace was being pursued. It looked like it was going okay, with some anticipation of cooperation in it's infancy. But really under the surface is lots of unaddressed oppression and suffering. It's a powder-keg, and even the smallest betrayal or interruption, a single hanged man, can relinquish the hold on peace. Then the cycle of disappointment, injury and revenge destroys everything. The key is de-escalation, and addressing the oppression, understanding and reluctance for revenge, only that can give a peace dividend, not an eye for an eye, but maybe just one eye for every two? I note that the cards don't say who swung the first hanged man, and that every state in the region and beyond is guilty of kinds of oppression. I don't think the cards here cast more judgement upon either side, unless they fail to de-escalate, fail to seek ways to address oppression, and continue that cycle of revenge. ### End That's what the cards tell me anyway. The company _obligations_ and _commitments_ have been _obstructed_ and the _noise_ and hate and bigotry are off the chart. ### External Influence - 14 Of Cups, King Meanwhile, outside Twitter, in the external world, Mastodon has _competent_ moderators, _councillors_ and _teachers_, an _empathetic_ and _esoteric_ crowd of _informed_ _intellectual_ _meditative_ _poets_ saying _profound_ _thoughtful_ things. ### Hidden Influence - 7 Of Trumps, Chariot But I do have hidden motivations, reasons to stay. I want go places like a _chariot_ to success I have _aspirations_ and _desires_, an _enthusiasm_, putting _effort_ into chasing _glory_ and _respect_ and _success_. The cards suggest a _ceasefire_, an end to _conflict_, exit the _contract_ and stop _hostilities_. Have an _intermission_ and a _lull_, we should _leave_, make a _pact_ to _pause_ _use_. Have a _period_ of _recovery_ and _rejuvenation_, We should go _without_ twitter, at least for a _time_. ### Summary The history of Twitter since Musk took over is that he's been interfering: ruining the place. Turning it into a nazi free-speech troll bar, welcoming back banned racists and bigots and terfs, even encouraging them, in order to monetize them. Meanwhile externally, outside twitter, there is a nice generous and calm place filled with communicative and contemplative folks. And while we do have ambition and desire, while we want to find the opportunities that Twitter could offer, That is failing and indeed doomed to failure. The interference is too strong. There can be no staying behind to fight on Musk's Terf turf. So the outcome can only be that we stop the fight, down weapons, ceasefire and walk out, go and find that external place where bigots and the troll are banned and nobody can own it to run interference. With that then we abandon Twitter, this will be our last post there. Face _failure_, knowing that eventually _happenstance_ will step in. ### Influence - 2 Of Pentacles, Change By committing yourself to more activities, binding your choices on staying alone at home, you will create _change_ in your life. _Adaptability_ and _balance_. The _butterfly_ effect will see you _change_ from a _chrysalis_ and _metamorphosed_ into a new _partnership_ and a new _venture_. ### Obstacles - 4 Of Trumps, Emperor You'll have to do battle with the _Emperor_, with an _authority_ figure. Maybe your _father_ or your _boss_? That person has _merit_ and _integrity_ and can show _leadership_ but they are in your way, an obstacle, and you need to commit to change to get away from that _authoritarian_ _moralist_. ### Outcome - 14 Of Cups, King In the end? You'll meet a _communicative_ _compassionate_ _competent_ and _courteous_ _guru_ who is _generous_ and _kind_. He's _lyrical_ and _knowledgable_, a _mysterious_ _mystic_ but he's also _reasonable_ and _feeling_ and _faithful_. ### Summary You've usually dated guys who are too materialist and financially focused, then you finally found a guy you can connect with on an emotional level, but he turned out to be a cheater. So you feel alone and just want to be left alone but you must make a commitment, bind yourself to an obligation so that you can create change in your life, over come your problems with your father or boss and finally meet a kind and faithful mystical guru of some sort. It's December, so the #Kickstarter is over, and @pre@boing.world does a quick 3-minute reading to discover what the next steps will be. ### Past - 3 Of Swords, Sorrow This is of course all the hard work, blood sweat and _tears_ that went into the project. The _anguish_, _difficulties_ and _discomfort_ involved in making the deck. The _pain_ and _problems_ of support and promotion during the kickstarter, the _trials_ and _torments_ and _worry_ and _woe_ in dealing with _struggles_ and _frustration._ ### Present - 9 Of Trumps, Hermit And now we'll be going into a _hermit_ phase. With the kickstarter over, we'll be doing _analysis_ and _assessment_, we'll be _contemplating_ where orders come from and _discovering_ how to get the cards printed and distributed most efficiently. We'll be using all our _patience_ and _perseverance_ and to _safeguard_ our _responsibility_ to get these cards out as soon as possible. We'll be _suspending_ doing new shows for a period of _tranquillity_ and _stillness_ while we do that. ### Future - 13 Of Cups, Queen Then, when all that is done, and the new deck is available for _purchase_, we'll be back in the new year for more _analysis_ and _compassionate_ and _critical_ _enlightened_ _intellectual_ _introspective_ shows filled with _mystic_ _searching_ and _spiritual_ _empathic_ _contemplation_. ### Summary It's been a struggle and hard work, and there is still much learning and analysis and perseverance to do, but it's been a great success and we're looking forward to coming back in the new year for a new season of shows to teach you all how the tarot works and do some gags about current events.
