Did agriculture and urbanism really replace the hunter-gatherers in Europe? I argue hunters and gatherers actually became the ruling families of the cities. Why do some families stay wealthy and powerful for many generations when most stay poor? The secret lies in rich people's behavior. They are far less needy than you are. The powerful basically don't give a fuck. This attitude lets them take greater risks, even risk death, to maximize their wants. And because of that, they succeed. Since buyers and sellers of large quantities of oil will need to hoard US dollars, this gives the US economy tremendous buying power over the rest of the world.
