The suspect, 27-year-old Michael Nash, was walking with a woman in the area of S. George Mason Drive when he started to physically and sexually attack her, according to police. Patricio Salazar, 54, saw the attack and tried to help the victim. That's when Nash assaulted Salazar, leaving him unconscious, police say. Salazar died from his injuries at the hospital. After the assaults, police say Nash ran from the area and tried to rob two people he encountered. The victims fought back, but Nash was able to take one of their cellphones. Nash has been charged with abduction with intent to defile, forcible sodomy and animate object sexual penetration. Police say additional charges are pending.
