Sneak Peek of a Power Plant being Demolished
The team decided to see how much of the power plant had been demolished. We crossed our fingers that the turbines were still there. It won't be long before it is all gone.

Abandoned Prison Farm
This prison farm has been sitting empty for a few decades. From what little information gathered most of the buildings were built around 1900 with updates done in the 1950's.
We first explored the big barn. Found some animal stalls and chute on the main level. The upper level was tool closets. In one tool storage area the flooring was so rotted that RIP's leg almost went all the way through. Checked out what looked like a workshop which had this creepy knife storage cabinet. Wish the knives were still in it, only painted outlines of the knives remain. We saved the house for last. The house was in decent condition for being empty for so long. There was a cool 1950's stove in the kitchen. From how the bedrooms were setup it appears that inmates may have stayed here while working on the farm. We may have found blood splatter on a bedroom door. It was an interesting exploration.

Traxler Mansion Destroyed by Fire
On April 23, 2023 around 3 a.m. Traxler Mansion was found engulfed in flames. The mansion was scheduled to go up for auction May 4, 2023 because of tax forfeiture. A potential buyer was lined up to purchase the property and restore the mansion back to what it looked at its prime. The property still went up for auction but it was not purchased. On June 1, 2023 it was put back up for auction and sold.
Here is a news article about what happened and some history of the mansion: https://www.daytondailynews.com/local/daytons-huge-historic-traxler-mansion-burns-days-before-planned-auction-sale/7LHBZ2UOHZCJDLSQS3X33OTMRU/

Abandoned Schoolhouse turned into Farm Equipment Storage
This now demolished schoolhouse was used to store farm equipment. We found some of the original desks, cabinets, and chalkboard that had the year of "76" written on it. Not sure if that was a reference to 1876 or 1976.
There was old carriages buried under other debris. Old farm equipment that we wish we had more time to photograph. Unsure of what has happened to all the equipment inside when it was demolished. Glad we got some photos and this short video because now it's just a memory.
It was short explore because one of the neighbors called the sheriff's department on us. We were told by the deputies that there had been a lot of garages broken into in that area. The person that did call the law stated that they seen we had our cameras out, which was nice of them. Deputies were really nice and understood what our team was doing. Since the neighbors were concerned about us being there and the deputies were being polite we didn't try to ask for a little more time.
This is another example of why our team works really hard to photograph and video these small pieces of history. If you want to see photos of this place check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/R.i.P.abandon

Murder Mansion
This mansion was built in 1918 with a Neo-Classical Revival style. Sadly, this mansion is not remembered for its architectural history but instead remembered for the gruesome murder that occurred here.
In March of 1985 a 13-year old boy went missing. His adopted parents put his face on milk cartons and fliers throughout the state. They said that he ran away with some friends to another state. However, their biological son was telling people that he witnessed his father punch his adopted brother in the head. He went on to say that after his father told him to go to his room he later seen his father outside covered in dirt with a shovel in his hand.
After the house was damaged by a fire a few years later the couple sold the house in October of 1993 to a man that enjoyed restoring historical homes in his free time. The man sent a crew to assess the damage. At the beginning of the new year (1994) two guys from the crew wanted to get underneath the house to inspect it for termite damage. When they got under the front porch they found a soft spot of dirt. One of the guys had heard rumors that there was buried treasure or body somewhere on the property. He started digging in hopes for treasure. Instead of treasure being found he found a pile of bricks on top of a plastic bag. Inside the plastic bag the skeletal remains of the missing boy wrapped in a Disney blanket.
The police didn't have to go on a manhunt for the couple because they had been arrested a week prior to the body being discovered for arson. Police believed that the couple set the house on fire to claim the $119,000 insurance policy they purchased a month prior. The biological son would testify against his father. The father claimed that his biological son made up the story and that the state investigators forced the son to testify against him. For 5 years the father bounced from one mental hospital to another mental hospital to establish his fabricated mental illness prevented him from standing trial. In 1997 the father was convicted of murdering his adopted son. An appeal hearing in 2001 found him guilty also. A day after the appeal ruling the father hung himself with his bedsheets in his jail cell.
When the boy disappeared in 1985 his biological mother was not notified. She didn't know that he had been missing until his remains were found in 1994. Such a tragic ending to a once beautiful and historical mansion.

Suicide Mouse House
RiP teams up with a local photographer to explore a house that has a huge hole in the roof which is causing major damage inside. There was a dead mouse floating in a bucket of water hence the name of the video.
Upon coming in RiP was hesitant to proceed exploring the house when he walked into the living room and seen a flat screen TV. A calendar on the wall had the year 2018 which explains the flat screen TV.
RiP forgot his gopro so he used his phone to create this video. Hopefully y'all like how this video turned out.

Abandoned Mountain Top Amusement Park
RiP travels to this abandoned mountain top theme park to relive a childhood memory. A long time ago RiP and his family visited this theme park while on vacation. There was advertisements and brochures all over the place for this place. In the video he will point out key memories that he experienced. RiP has even added some short video clips of when this theme park was in operation.
After visiting some ghost towns in the old West a business man was inspired to build a Western theme park. There was a popular fascination with the old West at that time. Construction began in September of 1960 and completed in May of 1961. With the help of over two hundred workers forty replica buildings were built. There were mini towns: Indian Village, Mountain Town, and Mining Town. The theme park was a hit, reaching over 500,000 visitors annually in the 1970's. Over time the fascination of the old West slowly faded away which lead to a decline in visitors. It got to the point that the revenue was not enough to support the maintenance needs for the rides. Towards the end it was not uncommon for rides to be shut down or not even be open. In July of 2002 a chain on the chairlift that brought visitors to the top of the mountain broke. This left visitors stuck in the July heat for hours. After that season the park shut down. After a new owner the park re-opened but only lasted for three seasons because of a bad recession.
Millions of dollars has been invested to bring back this mountain top amusement park to life. A little over a decade ago there was a major mud slide that caused residents around the theme park to be evacuated. One of the major issues is that no one has been able to find a way to bring fresh water to the top of the mountain. Another major issue is that there is stiff competition of other amusement attractions in the region. A final major issue is the lack of infrastructure in the area to be able to handle the influx of visitors and draw people away from the competition.
Sadly this past spring one of the long time owners passed away. There was high hopes that this latest attempt to re-open the amusement park was going to be successful. The plan was to restore the base of the mountain and work up to the top. It was estimated that it was going to cost over a hundred million dollars to restore the amusement park. Now we wait to see what the fate is for this mountain top amusement park.

Born a Mansion, Died as a Nursing Home
RiP and Aidan team up to explore an abandoned nursing home that has been left to rot for almost two decades.
A Bavarian-born furrier had this beautiful mansion built in the late 1800's. It was later converted into a nursing home shortly after WWII. The city has declared that the house should be demolished. One company offered a fee of at least $2 million to dismantle the house, package each piece, and mark where it came from so that it could be built at another location if someone purchased the house. Other developers have thought they could restore it and turn it into office space. But, with the condition that it is in today that might be too difficult to do. Only time will tell the fate of this once beautiful mansion.

Abandoned Historical Factory
@Remembering its Past tours a massive factory that was once the largest radio manufacture in the world.
At one time a radio studio took up a whole floor. It was the largest radio studio outside of New York City. The radio station could be heard from Florida to New York.
The first refrigerator that operated without electricity, first car radio, and the first mass-produced electrically based refrigerator was manufactured here.
RiP was able to explore most of the factory before triggering the alarm system. Hope y'all enjoy this video and if you do please hit the like button along with the subscribe button, thank you.

Abandoned Fire Damaged Apartment Building
This apartment building was built in 1908 for a local lawyer. It was a Jacobethan Style building that originally had 5 apartments. Four of the apartments had servant rooms and large front porches, a little over 2,000 square feet. The fifth apartment was the whole top level of the building, aka the penthouse. The lawyer passed away less than ten years after it was built. It was sold at auction and changed hands over the years.
In the late 1980's one of the apartments was featured in Good Housekeeping Magazine.
The last owner that rented out the apartments bought the building sometime in the 1990's. They subdivided the four apartments on the 1st and 2nd floor. The 3rd floor was left alone. In the early 2010's the apartment building caught on fire. Only two apartments had fire and water damage, the rest had smoke damage. However, the owner had passed away right around the same time. A relative settled the owner's estate and because of the fire damage they sold the apartment building to a developer for a $1,000 dollars. The developer couldn't get grants that were necessary for the repairs and eventually sold it for $50,000 dollars. Today it is labeled as an endangered property by the local community. Without proper funds this historical property may soon be gone.

Going to an Abandoned Chapel
RiP and Historian Kristin team up to capture a moment of history inside this chapel. Built in the late 1880's, this chapel held services for over a hundred years. We talked to the couple that owned it after Sunday services stopped being held. The husband said that he believes that the chapel was a place of worship for five different religious congregations throughout its lifetime. They had plans to convert the chapel into a house, but those plans never came through. The couple has donated the chapel to the village and they don't know what the village plans to do with it.
