The message from the US Treasury Department’s most recent annual report was stark: "A sustainable fiscal policy is defined as one where the debt-to-GDP ratio is stable or declining over the long term. The projections based on the assumptions in this Financial Report indicate that current policy is not sustainable." “Not sustainable” is code-speak for “will someday breakdown spectacularly unless somebody does something about it.” The main problem, of course, is that we no longer have the sort of politicians with the necessary background or experience to do anything about something this large and meaningful. In this podcast video, we dive into the recent developments following a terrorist massacre at a Russian music venue, leading to an escalation in attacks against Ukraine. One significant strike was reportedly aimed at the F16 capable airstrip at Stryi. However, the intensity and duration of the fireballs observed over the next 24 hours raise questions about whether the natural gas storage facility near Stryi might have also been targeted. The potential impact of such an attack on the natural gas storage facility is monumental, marking a game-changer for Europe - and not in a positive way. A substantial amount of natural gas flows through these facilities into the EU. If hit, not only would these flows cease, but Ukraine would also need to start drawing from the EU system instead of transiting natural gas into it.
