Solo Backpacking Trip at Devils Den State Park along the Butterfield Trail
The Butterfield Hiking Trail is a 14.7 mile loop that takes you through the Ozark National Forest and the Ozark Mountains. Over the 14.7 miles the trail takes you over creeks, through historical rock quarries, caves and crevices, over bluffs, and breath taking overlooks. The highest point of the trail is an elevation of 1772 feet. There are a number of established campsites along the trail. You can turn this trail into a 2 or 3 day hike/ backpacking depending on your skill level. The most popular camp ground is about 9 miles in and is call Junction Camp. This is where Lee Creek and Black Berry Creek meet up. There is plenty of fresh water sources along the trail. There is even a few water falls if you find your self lucky enough to be there after a good rain. The trail can be hiked/ backpacked clockwise or counter clock wise. I choose to hike/ backpack this trail clockwise. You will need to stop at the Parks Visitor Center to obtain a permit. Due to the recent resections you will need to were a mask and there are not to be more then 2 people in the office at one time. It took me over an hour to get my permit. There is a simple questionnaire that you need to fill out and once that is done the Office will issue you a free permit. The Park Office will give you a map the is worthless and would better be used as a fire starter then a map. I used the All Trails app for this full hike/ backpacking. There is cell service on all of the high points that you can update the app if you are using the free version. I will have a link below for All Trails. The Trail is very will marked with blue blazers and mile markers (which do not match the map) and the trail is well traveled.

Looking for Rattlesnake Waterfall and found Bigfoot. See what I find hiking in the National Forest
Went hiking looking for a hidden waterfall in Ozark National Forest "Rattlesnake Creek Falls. Found the falls but there was someone else or something else in the forest with me. I found Bigfoot's foot prints as I hiked back to the camping site. The German Sheppard puppies was on the ready just in case the hairy beast was to come out. The waterfall was amazing and I wish I could have found a safe way down to the falls.

Backpacking Pigeon Roost Trail in Hobbs State Park. Camping there for a Solo Overnighter
Backpacking a short 8.2 mile loop in the heart of Hobbs State Park. The Pigeon Roost Trail wines up and down hills and tracks along side of Beaver Lake. Took advantage of the primitive camping that is allowed on the trail. This solo overnighter will take you along the trail for the 5 mile hike in to the camp grounds, where I setup camp, cook dinner, and close in for the night. In the morning a short hike back to the trail head. Come along with me on this adventure. P.S. I DO FIND BUSHCRAFT GOLD ON THE TRAIL!!!!

Epic Failure searching for this hidden waterfall. Tea Kettle Falls Eureka Spring, Arkansas
We took a short hike to find Tea Kettle Falls in Eureka Springs Arkansas. The hike was about 3.8 miles round trip. Since we had not had any rain in a few weeks the hike was an epic failure. We found what were the falls and they were breath taking but there was no water. We now know where to go this spring to have one of the best days ever. We can only look forward to seeing this water fall in all of her glory. I promise that we will be back and we will take you along for the journey.
I found this hike on the App The Hiking Project. https://www.hikingproject.com/
If you follow the trail in the app it will take you right to the falls. I assume that in the spring that you will need to bring creek shoes as most of the hike is in a creek bed.
Happy trail and we will see you on the next adventure.

1st Daddy Daughter Backpacking Trip As We Hike the Ozark Highland Trail. Camping On Hurricane Creek
My daughter and I wanted to start a journey along the Ozark Highland Trail. We started at Lake Fort Smith, AR and hiked / backpacked the trail that leads to to Rattle Snake Falls. This journey through the backcountry of the Ozark National Forest took us through creeks, forest, up and down the Ozark mountains. I knew that this trail was going to test us to the limits. However, I want to hike more my daughter and I come to the agreement that we bight off more than we could chew...We were hurting.
That will not stop my sprits...I have set a goal and I will finish it... not today nor tomorrow but I will...
Along the way I will be testing out a number of products.

These are two ultra lightweight backpacking stoves that I put head to head in a few tests. Both of these stoves are under $12 on Amazon. Which camp stove is going to be the better cheap stove. Is it going to be the Hammon Backpacking Ultra Lightweight Stove or is it going to be the Desert Fox Ultra Lightweight Backpacking Stove. Stay toned to find out which cheap backpacking stove is going to win.
