It’s 2023 folks. The Muckrakers are back! We want to wish you a happy new year and want to thank you for returning. We are working hard to bring you some great content. This episode of The Muckrakers, we bring you Melissa Dungan who currently sits at position 2 on the Conroe Independent School District’s Board of Trustees. On January 17th through January 18th (yes, the meeting was that long), the board discussed several contentious topics. One of which was a book that discusses concerning subject matter within its text. On one side of the discussion are those who wish to keep the book available for minors. On the other side are a concerned group of parents and citizens that believe this book has topics meant for a more mature audience. Questions for the audience: 1) Do you agree or disagree that the book in question (watch the video to know which book) is literature (given the definition of the word literature)? 2) Does this violate Texas penal code? 3) Does this violate US law? 4) Do you agree with the Board’s decision (both decisions on the book in question)? 5) Should the book in question be pulled from the school entirely? Or should the book be taught in high school courses (say 15-year-old children*)? 6) Is there anything else you saw that needs addressing? There seems to be some who want to cast stones… and all too quickly. We must follow the saying “He Who Is Without Sin Cast the First Stone.” If we do not understand something, we must have patience, approach the source of concern with care and respect, and understand the bigger picture. We have to trust those we put trust in. Have a dialog. Care. Enjoy each other’s company. And most of all, take the win! EP. 42 – CONVENTION OF STATES WITH SCOTT WINGERTER On this episode of the Muckrakers, the team sits down with Scott Wingerter to discuss what an actual convention of states actually is. Scott is a husband, father, teacher, and a 12 year Air Force Veteran. Scott has a Masters Degree in US History from Sam Houston State University. He is passionate about service and has served both his country and community his entire adult life. Scott enlisted in the United States Air Force after completing high school in Erie, Pennsylvania two weeks before 9/11 2001. In February of 2002, he attended Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Upon graduation from Basic Training, Scott attended Morse code intercept school and basic signals intelligence cryptography school. His first duty assignment was with the 94th Intelligence Squadron, at Fort Meade, Maryland. Working at the National Security Agency for 8 years, conducting over 300 intelligence missions with the U-2 Spy plane, Scott Wingerter distinguished himself as an expert in his career field. In 2009, Scott received deployment orders to the Joint Interrogation and Debriefing Center in Iraq. Scott Wingerter served in Iraq from August of 2009-March of 2010. In 2011 Scott joined the Kansas Air National guard, once again working with U-2 Spy Plane. He attended college at Park University, in Parkville Missouri where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies concentrating on history and education.
