30-year-old homeless man dies after being held down and choked by two other passengers on NY subway
GRAPHIC: A passenger on the New York subway who held a man in a chokehold for several minutes was released without charge on May 2, pending further investigation, according to a New York Post report citing police. The man held in the chokehold died. Footage posted to the Luces de Nueva York Facebook page shows two men holding a man down on the subway. One of the men is applying a chokehold. The New York Post named the dead man as Jordan Neely, 30. He is seen in the footage flailing his arms around. Reportedly, the man was homeless and had a mental episode on the train half an hour before the men began aggressively restraining his movements. Neely was rendered unconscious after approximately 30 minutes of being choked and held down on the floor, while no other passengers intervened, most watched and others recorded the entire scene, as the cell phone video footage makes apparent. According to the NYT, Mr. Neely was not able to be revived by the time the ambulance got to him, after allegedly administering CPR and other life-saving techniques, EMS workers declared the man dead shortly after. The Post and the New York Times reported that the man who applied the hold to his neck was taken into custody before being released without charge amid an ongoing investigation.
