The General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a licensed radio service that uses channels around 462 MHz and 467 MHz. The most common use of GMRS channels is for short-distance, two-way voice communications using hand-held radios, mobile radios and repeater systems. In 2017, the FCC expanded GMRS to also allow short data messaging applications including text messaging and GPS location information.
Services that provide functionality similar to GMRS include the Citizens Band Radio Service (CBRS), the Family Radio Service (FRS) and the Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS).
The GMRS is available to an individual (one man or one woman) for short-distance two-way communications to facilitate the activities of licensees and their immediate family members. Each licensee manages a system consisting of one or more transmitting units (stations.) The rules for GMRS limit eligibility for new GMRS system licenses to individuals in order to make the service available to personal users. (Some previously licensed non-individual systems are allowed to continue using GMRS.)
In 2017, the FCC updated the GMRS by allotting additional interstitial channels in the 467 MHz band, increased the license term from 5 to 10 years, allowed transmission of limited data applications such as text messaging and GPS location information and made other updates to the GMRS rules to reflect modern application of the service.

I install the Tram Browning 1191 Amateur Dual Band Glass Mount Antenna UHF 440-450 MHz and VHF 144-148 MHz PL-259 for Icom HYT Vertex Mobiles two way radio antenna
VHF 144-148 MHz 2.5 dBd gain
UHF 440-450 MHz 4.5 dBd gain
Max power 50 Watts
VSWR less than 1.5:1
28 1/2" Height
Easy installation. I chose this for my vehicle has glass. I used it in the "out of the box" condition and experienced poor performance. To properly use this antenna you will have to sweep it to check SWR. I used a MFJ-226 and was able to see the SWR change in real time as I adjusted the small screw. I was able to get the antenna down to 1.24, but when I added the clip for a ground plane it dropped all the way down to 1.19. Again simple to trim if you have the proper tools. The SWR at 144.100mhz was 1.45 and at 148.000mhz it was 1.50. It fell to 1.19 at 146.675mhz. I had a hard time trying to figure out the way to use the ground plane. I found it to be effective if you tighten the fitting on the hook to keep it in place. Look at the pictures. When you use the ground clip, be sure it is perpendicular to your whip.

In amateur radio, QRP operation refers to transmitting at reduced power while attempting to maximize one's effective range. The term QRP derives from the standard Q code used in radio communications, where "QRP" and "QRP?" are used to request, "Reduce power", and ask "Should I reduce power?"
QRP KX2 “stealth” transceiver can go wherever your imagination takes you. Thanks to state-of-the-art construction techniques, it’s only 5.8 x 2.8 x 1.5” and weighs just 13 ounces—making it the smallest full-featured HF radio on the planet.
Yet it puts out up to 10 watts, covers 9 bands, and shares many features with the KX3. It also works with the KXPA100 amplifier.
To maximize your freedom to roam, you can outfit your KX2 with an internal 2.6 amp-hour Li-ion battery. Current drain is as little as 135 mA, yielding up to 8 hours of typical operation on a single battery charge. There’s also an internal automatic antenna tuner module (KXAT2), which can tune a random wire, dipole, or whip on multiple bands.
A rear tilt-foot angles the KX2 for use on any surface, from desktop to park bench to rock. The KX2 also makes a great moble rig, and can even be used hand-held. It includes a built-in mic for HT-style operation.
The KX2’s powerful 32-bit DSP offers features dual watch, stereo audio, user-programmable filter bandwidths, noise blanking, noise reduction, and auto-notch. RTTY and PSK data modes are built in—no PC needed—as well as a memory keyer and digital voice recorder for transmit.

👍 TekPower: 13.8V Power https://amzn.to/2SQeF0T
Don't buy an Icom 7300 when there's a Flex Radio out there.
Icom IC 7300 is Icom's latest SDR HF/50 MHz Transceiver. It offers 100W of power and receives from 0.030 to 74.800 MHZ. It operates on SSB, CW, RTTY, AM and FM modes. The Icom IC-7300 features a RF direct sampling system, 15 discrete band-pass filters, a real-time spectrum scope and a large 4.3" color touch screen display. Additional features of the IC-7300 include a built-in automatic antenna tuner, 101 channels, SD memory card slot and 3 CW functions. In the box you will find the IC-7300 transceiver, a HM-219 hand microphone, DC power cable, fuses and plugs.
Output power: 100W (25W AM)
RX Frequencies: 0.030-74.800
RF direct sampling system
The IC-7300 employs an RF direct sampling system, where RF signals are directly convert to digital data. Then processed in the FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array), making it possible to simplify the circuit construction as well as reduce noise that can mask weak signals.
The new “IP+” improves the 3rd order intercept point (IP3) performance improving the ability to copy a weak signal that is adjacent to either a strong interfering signal. In this process, A/D converter is optimized to reduce or eliminate signal distortion.
RMDR and phase noise characteristics
The IC-7300’s RMDR is about 97dB* (typical value) improving the Phase Noise characteristics by about 15dB (at 1 kHz frequency separation). The superior Phase Noise characteristics reduce noise components for both receive and transmit signals.
* At 1 kHz frequency separation (received frequency: 14.2MHz, MODE: CW, IF BW: 500Hz)
15 discrete band-pass filters
The RF Direct Sampling is protected by an array of bandpass filters. The signal passes through one of the fifteen bandpass filters, where signals outside the passband are rejected. To reduce the insertion loss, the IC-7300 utilizes High Q factor coils.
Large color touch screen
The large 4.3” color TFT touch LCD offers intuitive operation of functions, settings, and various operational visual aids such as the band scope, waterfall function, and audio scope.
Like on the high-end rigs, the waterfall shows a change of signal strength over a period of time and allows you to find weak signals that may not be apparent on the spectrum scope.
Use the audio scope function to observe various AF TX/RX characteristics such as microphone compressor level, filter width, notch filter width and keying waveform in the CW mode. Image below shows the Audio scope with the waterfall function and the oscilloscope.
Real-Time spectrum scope
You no longer have to choose whether to listen to the audio or have the spectrum scope sweep for signals as the IC-7300’s real-time spectrum scope offers the simultaneous operations found in some of the more expensive rigs! This means you can use either the spectrum scope or the waterfall to quickly move to an intended signal while listening to the receiver audio. The ‘7300’s touch screen introduces a “Magnify” function. So, when you first touch the scope screen around the intended signal, the touched part is magnified. A second touch of the scope screen changes the operating frequency and allows you to accurately tune.

Install Dipole Doublet ~ Best Small Backyard Antenna for Ham Radio
he doublet antenna is a form of dipole that uses a balanced feeder, often open wire feeder and an antenna tuning unit. As open wire feeder is able to operate with levels of standing waves and effectively becomes part of the antenna, it is able to operate over a wide band of frequencies.
As a result, the doublet antenna forms a very convenient multiband antenna and it is often used at HF where a number of different HF bands need to be covered, and it is relatively popular with radio amateurs where it enables several bands to be used with a single antenna.
Doublet antenna basics
The doublet antenna is essentially a balanced system and each half of the top plus each wire in the feed line must be equal in length. The antenna top is not cut to resonate at any particular frequency (unlike the half-wave dipole), and any length may be chosen to suit an individual location.
Basic doublet antenna concept
Basic concept of a doublet antenna
The key to the doublet antenna is the form of feeder used. Open wire or balanced feeders are able to operate as part of the actual antenna itself, not just feeding the power from an unbalanced source. The balanced feeder or open wire feeder is able to operate with standing waves along its length.
Note on Balanced Feeder:
Balanced feeder can come in one of a variety of forms: open wire, ladder line, or simple ‘ribbon feeder’. It provides the capability for very low loss, provided it does not pass near other objects that might cause imbalanced. Balanced feeder is often used on the HF bands.
Read more about Balanced Feeder.
G5RV antenna
The G5RV antenna is a dipole with a symmetric resonant feeder line, which serves as impedance matcher for a 50 ohm coax cable to the transceiver.

Amateur Radio (ham radio) is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all without the Internet or cell phones. It's fun, social, educational, and can be a lifeline during times of need.
You can set up a ham radio station anywhere! In a field...
Although Amateur Radio operators get involved for many reasons, they all have in common a basic knowledge of radio technology and operating principles, and pass an examination for the FCC license to operate on radio frequencies known as the "Amateur Bands." These bands are radio frequencies allocated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for use by ham radio operators.

80-10 meter ham bands; general coverage receive from 3-32.0MHz (also covers 0.5 to 3 MHz with reduced sensitivity)
All modes: SSB, CW, and Data (four sub-modes)
Ultra-compact size: 2.8”H x 5.8”W x 1.5”D; 13 oz (less options); low-profile knobs and feet for minimum height
Rear tilt foot provides 3-point mount for rugged terrain
Custom high-contrast LCD with alphanumeric text display

(Parody) How to Solder Electronics | From Internet Stock Images.
I scoured the internet tubes to show you the best, funniest way on how not to solder. How to make bad soldering and cold solders.
How to burn your hand on the soldering iron.
This is not really a how to, it's a comedy parody of how to make bad solder connections.

NVIS Antenna Unbox Near Vertical Incidence Skywave | Survival Antenna
Near vertical incidence skywave, or NVIS, is a skywave radio-wave propagation path that provides usable signals in the distances range — usually 0–650 km (0–400 miles). It is used for military and paramilitary communications, broadcasting,[1] especially in the tropics, and by radio amateurs for nearby contacts circumventing line-of-sight barriers. The radio waves travel near-vertically upwards into the ionosphere, where they are refracted back down and can be received within a circular region up to 650 km (400 miles) from the transmitter.[2] If the frequency is too high (that is, above the critical frequency of the ionospheric F layer), refraction fails to occur and if it is too low, absorption in the ionospheric D layer may reduce the signal strength.

NVIS Survival Antenna Test | Near Vertical Incidence Skywave | Emergency

There is no fundamental difference between NVIS and conventional skywave propagation; the practical distinction arises solely from different desirable radiation patterns of the antennas (near vertical for NVIS, near horizontal for conventional long-range skywave propagation).

Antenna Drive On Mast Mount for Ham Radio - CW QSO
SotaBeams Drive-on Antenna Mount - Begali Traveler Paddle - CW QSO
SOTAbeams MDCS-100 Drive-on Mast Mount makes it easy to operate from your parked car. Just drive a wheel onto the base plate and insert a mast into the steel sleeve. Perfect for operating from remote locations where other portable antenna mounting options are not available. Keep the drive-on mount in your car for a portable antenna system mount that is ready for any operating opportunity. This is a handy accessory for the well-equipped emergency communicator. Paired with the SOTAbeams Compact Travel Mast (SBM-TRAVELMAST), you have a complete portable solution for mounting a light-weight wire antenna.
NOTE: This mount is not suitable for the SOTAbeams Mini Telescopic Pole or the Tactical 7000hds.
The recommended maximum telescopic fiberglass mast height is 33 ft. (10 m). Guying recommended; guying is required in windy conditions or when using antennas that exert a significant "pull". For some slim masts you will need to shim the sleeve to get a proper fit.
Made of mild steel with an attractive silver painted finish it will give many years of service. Great with guyed aluminum and fiberglass poles up to 2.25 in. diameter (58mm) at the base section. It is quick and easy to assemble and take apart for transport as the stand separates into two parts.
