Guest @Dr Brian Keating
Some scientists look at religion with skepticism and it’s not altogether unearned, but this could only strip life of any meaning. As a believing and practicing Jewish man and cosmologist, it’s Brian’s goal to give way to the possibility of an existence of a higher being.

Josh Denny is a comedian and former host of “Ginormous Food”. In this episode, we chat about what got him cancelled (again), being pro-choice or pro-life, the vaccine mandate, and the story behind his debacle with The Food Network.

What Got Josh Cancelled Again and the Topic of Abortion
In the advent of social media and cancel culture, Josh is no stranger to this phenomenon and recently went under fire for a tweet on the Texas Heartbeat Bill which allows any person to sue someone who performs or induces an abortion. This led to a rift with his contract with The Food Network and backlash on the show as well. Josh believes that changing the law to be more restrictive can be the first step to creating a world where women are more thoughtful about bringing a child into the world or not but is all for providing women more access to birth control and practicing safe sex.
A Divide in the US and Beating Racism from Both Sides
There is an ongoing rift between opposing sides in the US and Josh and Candice see that there is a need for a “conscious uncoupling” of polarizing perspectives both at the dinner table and in legislation that people never knew how to deal with in person without taking it personally.
The first time Josh was “cancelled” was in 2018 over a race-related tweet. He believes that the main point was that there is a need to fight racism in all its iterations and not have a back-and-forth tactic on oppressor VS the oppressed and Josh isn’t afraid to go for the offense with his comedic material.
The Vaccine Mandate and Getting COVID 3 Times
US President Joe Biden has recently implemented a vaccine mandate requiring Americans to get vaccinated to take part in pre-pandemic activities such as dining out. He sees that the virus mostly harms those with prior illnesses and even as someone who has had COVID three times in the past year, Josh has a Libertarian view on vaccine mandates and is against this because of the lack of guarantee that you can’t infect someone else with the virus.
On What Hill are We Willing to Die On?
For Josh who is a comedian and Candice who is a pornstar, both are similar in the sense that both are willing to sacrifice public acceptance for radical individualism in their lives. It’s easy for Josh to get past the hate and backlash he receives because he sees that at the root of it all is people’s hatred over his freedom to express himself. He would rather “starve running free than live a life of luxury and bondage”.

#39 (@Chris Williamson ) Modern Wisdom
Chatting with Candice
Chris Williamson
Episode Run Time: 01:32:33
Chris Williamson is the host of the podcast Modern Wisdom. After being a club promoter for over a decade, running more than a thousand events, and most famously appearing on Love Island, Chris, tired of the party scene, started the podcast to expand his purview. Although he still runs club nights, he now spends most of his time hosting his show, a job he can’t believe he is paid to do. He also has a Master’s degree in International Marketing, which he uses to make the most of his events. In this episode, I talk to Chris about his time on reality shows, learning from relationships, and how taking responsibility for your life can be liberating.
[00:00:57] Introducing Chris Williamson
[00:12:58] Leaving reality television
[00:18:37] People eventually forget your past
[00:20:28] Shifting from reality TV to hosting a podcast
[00:22:38] Learning from relationships
[00:25:32] Healthy and unhealthy levels of jealousy
[00:33:11] The evolution of marriage and the upward trend in divorce
[00:38:37] The value of tradition and ritual in society
[00:43:23] Long term relationships, marriage, and biological imperatives
[01:01:40] Predetermination, agency, and locus of control
[01:10:56] Turning the volume down on your thoughts
[01:24:31] Journaling and self-help are feminine?
[01:25:30] Chris’s TEDx Talk
Even though he believes his podcasting work is way more exciting and valuable, Chris still fields tons of questions online about reality tv. Fans of Love Island regularly get in touch with him, asking for tips on how to get onto similar shows. He believes that “instant fame” is appealing, and many people realize it requires a relatively small amount of work.
We all believe that our internal state is far richer than everybody else’s. Fans see reality tv as “free fame” and as their chance to be plucked out of obscurity just for existing. Chris is concerned that the obsession with reality television and its potential for instant fame sends the wrong message about success and how we all should measure our efforts. According to Chris, the vast majority of people within the industry are miserable, which is part of the reason he left. Because they anchor their identities to the roles they play, stars of reality shows often experience a crisis of identity when trying to build a life outside of the industry.
Although we all should expect some level of healthy jealousy, superabundant jealousy is a sign of a bigger problem. If we experience a lot of jealousy, we must consider what we need to lessen the emotion’s intensity and frequency. We may crave reassurance and affirmation from our partners. Transparency and communication often solve most issues in a relationship. We should learn to convey our needs effectively if we want something different. For many men, jealousy feels shameful. Admitting to jealousy is acknowledging insecurity, which is “unmasculine”.
Seeing relationships fail has jaded Chris’s view of them. He believes that catastrophe and disaster are the rules with relationships, not the exception. Accepting that liberates you from some fears that spark your jealousy. It is imperative to find compatibility with values, schedules, and life plans. When you settle down with someone, you need to have difficult conversations. If your partner wants to have children and you do not, you are fundamentally incompatible, and things will end badly.
Chris describes himself as spiritual as opposed to religious. He does not believe in fate per se, but rather that he can make things work. Chris is hesitant to attribute the sum of his life to a higher power and instead takes responsibility for his intentional actions to create and rectify outcomes. He believes the idea of fate takes away your agency and strips you of any acknowledgment for your hard work and creative problem-solving.
You are the common denominator in all your life experience; there is an internal locus of control. If you encounter a particular result consistently, it is because of you. It is more likely that it is because of you than it is because of the world. When you start to see life in this way, it can be very liberating but challenging. There is an appeal in believing that things are happening to you rather than being accountable and accepting responsibility for your life. Consistent results follow a consistent input.

Keisha Grey

Keisha Grey is a highly acclaimed former adult star with more than 1.5 million fans on Instagram. Her meteoric rise to become one of the most sought-after actresses in the industry was not without a few hiccups, though. [01:19:13] Working at Dunkin Donuts
[01:21:15] Adult stars dealing with different personalities off-screen
[01:24:40] Battling anxiety issues
[01:26:20] Keisha's goals and ambitions
For the longest time, traditional porn studios have exploited young girls who flock the industry every year searching for opportunities. Young girls, naive of how the industry works, sign shitty contracts, perform outrageous acts, all in the name of perfecting their crafts. While it's okay to try out a couple of stuff early on in your career, you need to understand that the type of content you produce will forever be part of your resume. So, if you settle for mediocre content, you'll always be associated with mediocre content. Unfortunately, girls who stand up against being mistreated or poor pay are often met with frowns of disapproval. The good news is that there are other ways to remain relevant other than mainstream shooting. A good example, and a favorite for most stars, is OnlyFans. It's easy to set up, and you get to enjoy the freedom of producing your own content whichever way you please.
The pressure associated with mainstream shooting can drive even the toughest of souls into depression. The tight schedules, constant traveling, relationship issues, and the recent pandemic are things stars have to bear. Some stars choose to meditate; others try to sleep it off, and sadly, the majority fall into drug and substance abuse. For Keisha, pills and alcohol were her thing, such that she sometimes appeared on set a little tipsy. Like most addicts, Keisha battled denial and only sought professional help only when her agents threatened to drop her if she didn't seek help. Although she has relapsed a couple of times, her journey to sobriety is one of courage, determination, and love.
We live in an age where kids as young as ten have internet access. While this might be a good thing in terms of information access, parents need to filter the content their kids can have access to. This is because there are free stuff everywhere, and since kids are naturally curious, there is a huge chance that they'll one day bump into some adult content. As a parent, you must control the type of content your child consumes and have the dreaded sex talk when the time is right.
Keisha also believes there should be a paywall where people sign up and pay for content when accessing adult sites. The paywall will do wonders in terms of how we consume content and boost industry earnings while providing better tax avenues for the government. It would also be best if regulators introduced the 21 and over rule as part of measures aimed at protecting young girls joining the industry.

Dr. Peter A. McCullough
Episode Run Time: 56:57
Dr. Peter A. McCullough is an American cardiologist, former vice chief of internal medicine at Baylor University Medical Center and a professor at Texas A&M University. He became widely popular during the COVID-19 pandemic through his controversial views on vaccines, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic. In this episode, he talks about the algorithm working against him, shifting narratives in the medical community, and the true meaning of misinformation and being “anti-science”.

The Shifting Narrative
Dr. Peter A. McCullough is one of the most published people in COVID-19 and can be easily found in the National Library of Medicine, but not in Google. He argues how agencies, health systems, the media, and big industries took money worth 13 billion dollars from HHS and the Biden administration and called it the “COVID Community Court”. These organizations that took the money feel obligated to push the vaccine, with some colleges in the US pushing their students, but not their faculty, to take the vaccine. Being pregnant during the pandemic, refusing to get vaccinated, and facing judgement from physicians was also one of the biggest frustrations that Candice went through. When you don’t have medical freedom, you suffer the risks and consequences of institutions that refuse to respect personal decision.
Is There Such Thing as Misinformation?
For Dr. McCullough, data has multiple points of view. There’s no such thing as information and misinformation, and science and anti-science. Those are weaponized terms and anybody that uses these terms should be accused of propaganda; creating injury, disparaging individuals, and attempting to gain some type of superiority of one over the other. Misinformation was extensively used in Nazi Germany, and large medical institutions use this to claim that they hold information and if people don’t espouse their views, they’re spreading misinformation. These terms are propaganda and is dangerous to society.

#49 Benji Nolot- CEO and Founder of Exodus Cry
Chatting with Candice Benji Nolot
Episode Run Time: 02:11:50
After a short hiatus, I am welcoming Benjamin “Benji” Nolot into the podcast. He is a filmmaker and the CEO and founder of “Exodus Cry”, a Christian social activist group focused on the issue of human trafficking. In this episode, Benji and I talk about what inspired him on his advocacy, the issue of porn and sex trafficking online, and how we can possibly regulate the porn, its consumers, and the entire industry.

00:10:20 Going After Sexual Exploitation on Social Media

01:33:57 Honoring Their Truth and Destigmatizing Porn Stars
01:42:06 The Pressure on Candice and the Decentralization of the Porn Industry
01:50:14 Protecting Children From Porn and Having Better Sex Education
01:56:33 Body Autonomy and Parents Having Age-Appropriate Conversations with Children
02:04:18 Core Beliefs and the Meaning of Sex
Sexual exploitation on PornHub, and social media
There is a prevailing issue among online platforms regarding sexually exploitative material and Benji aims to go after all these apps and websites. In PornHub, there is a lack of moderation on their content and found throughout his research that PornHub operates like a criminal organization to which employees are also aware of. Benji also finds problems with OnlyFans; how its non-consensual content had also started appearing on the platform, and its recruitment and referral-based model which he finds similar to “pimping” culture especially since there is a large amount of money to be earned from.
How Benji ventured into the issue of sex trafficking and forming Exodus Cry
Benji was inspired to make the crackdown on sex trafficking as his main advocacy after growing up with mostly women in the household and seeing the film “The Accused” which was one of the first films that dealt with the issue of rape and victims of rape. He also felt more responsibility as a man to educate fellow men on sex trafficking, especially coming from his interviews with “webcam girls” where he found that men felt more entitled to demand toxic and exploitative acts from these women.
The Issue of Consent and Sex Trafficking in the Porn Industry
Benji found that the normalization of the use of coercion in recruiting talent for the porn industry was much more widespread. Even established agents and porn stars recognize that trafficking is common in the industry and has contributed to their rise to fame. As someone who is part of this industry, Candice sees it as entertainment and acknowledges the relationship society has with porn stars and alludes it to “The Scarlet Letter”, wherein starring in porn videos is like wearing an “A” on your chest, making it difficult for talents to reintegrate back into society. However, she recognizes the lack of conscious consent among talents and a better way for consumers to know that they are consuming “ethical” porn or porn that was made with conscious consent from both the producers and the talents. Both Benji and Candice agree on decentralization and that more power must be given to the content creators and performers rather than give higher-ups more control over the industry.
Candice and Benji on protecting and educating children and young adults on sex
Both Benji and Candice agree that the issue of sexual trafficking and exploitation goes beyond what they can handle, but one step to filter and ensure that young, impressionable people aren’t consuming inappropriate content is through paywall wherein a user must have a paid subscription and a government-issued ID to access these services. Another way is to conduct proper sex education or “age-appropriate porn” as Candice puts it from both schools and parents. A reality of life is that humans are sexual beings and sexuality is a part of our identity and it’s the adults’ responsibility for young people to not be steered into the wrong direction on what sex is or should be like and potentially falling into the trap of having wrong, abusive perceptions of sex.

#44 (@Tom Bilyeu ) - Impact Theory, Healthy Relationships, Unlocking Your Potential
Chatting with Candice
Tom Bilyeu (@Tom Bilyeu )
Episode Run Time: 01:19:36
Tom Bilyeu co-founded Quest Nutrition, the #1 protein bar brand in America. After leaving Quest in 2016, he started his own media company and podcast called Impact Theory. With his new venture, Tom seeks to incite lasting global change through the incubation of mission based businesses and the creation of empowering content.
In this episode, I talk to Tom about his experiences at Quest and Impact Theory, the best practices for a healthy relationship, and the importance of a growth mindset to unlock one’s true potential.
00:00:00 00:01:34 Introducing Tom Bilyeu[00:05:08] Tom’s decision to marry his wife despite her health[00:12:07] Never weaponize your partner’s insecurity[00:17:29] Self-awareness and honesty in communication [00:23:45] How Tom deals with betrayal and forgiveness[00:30:10] Money does not change your self-worth[00:36:51] Why “loving yourself” is not enough[00:40:58] You can improve any skill with practice[00:47:26] Influence of Impact Theory University on kids VS adults[00:50:33] Impact Theory’s future content: virtual reality & metaverses[00:56:47] Upgrading humans through augmentation [01:01:37] Death, after-life, and immortality[01:07:18] Creating an AI version of yourself[01:12:40] Children’s access to technology and the internet
Tom shares that he put a lot of thought about whether he would propose to his wife Lisa who had chronic health issues. Even if it meant a life of caretaking, Tom believed it was a small price to pay to be able to spend his life with his soulmate. They co-founded Quest Nutrition with their friends and have been married for 20 years. Their time together has taught them how to communicate and handle arguments.
In a relationship, both parties reveal personal struggles and vulnerabilities. When an insecurity is made known, you should never use that as a weapon against your partner. Your relationship should be a safe space where you can both freely share your fears and faults. Trust is broken when you hold those insecurities against him/her, especially because it was shared in confidence.
Arguments arise when insecurities are triggered. People get angry and upset because they have been made to feel less than. Knowing why you feel a certain way is the first step to solving the problem. Equally important is having the ability to communicate so you can talk about what’s really happening.
Another tip from Tom: never bring up past fights or transgressions. Constantly dredging up your partner’s past crimes is damaging for the relationship. With every conversation, ask yourself, “What is my goal?” If your goal is to have a loving connection with your partner but then you act coldly towards him/her then it doesn’t make sense. Your goal or your behavior needs to change. Be honest about what you want to achieve⎯even if it seems petty or childish. With transparency, then you can both move forward. Self-awareness, communication, and openness are the key ingredients to overcome disagreements.
On the topic of money and success, Tom believes that people truly want fulfillment, not fame or riches. Admittedly, there was a time wherein Tom himself chased after money. But once he finally amassed wealth, he realized that it didn’t change his self-worth. The goal of life is to not to become rich, but to respect and like who you are when no one’s watching.
Tom defines fulfillment as “working really hard to garner a set of specific skills that matter to you, that allow you to serve yourself and other people.” Even if you’re failing, you feel fulfilled because you’re growing. The question to ask yourself is, “What would I do and love even if I’m failing?” By answering this question, you’re on the right track to finding your life’s meaning and purpose.
With enough practice, you are guaranteed to make an improvement in any skill. Small increments do add up in ways that can have drastic effects on your life. It’s normal to have doubts or criticisms about yourself. Instead of entertaining these negative thoughts, you need to re-focus on your goal. Evaluate whether or not these reservations will serve you in any way. The doubts that you have may be founded on some evidence, but will it helpful to keep on repeating them? Only engage in thought and behaviors that will propel you towards the future you envision for yourself.

Sex & Porn Addiction
There’s no doubt that some people are more addicted to sex and porn than others, but the question as a clinician is to ask: “How do I treat this?”. One model could be addiction and some of the things that are required to call some things as an addiction would be developing tolerance around the stimulus or behavior, Curie activity, having negative consequences as a result of the behavior. Each of these will be undergone and have disproven some aspects of them in science, called falsification. An addiction has to fulfill all criteria otherwise it’s not an addiction. Having shame because of conservative upbringings, having a high sex drive and not being able to complete everyday tasks and relationships, leading up to impulsive and compulsive disorders are not the same as addiction. In the field of science, no scientist has labelled porn as addictive and most of this stigma is around public perception.
Women Who Watch Porn
Women are the biggest spenders in OnlyFans and women who watch porn are seen to have positive effects such as improved sexual satisfaction, increased orgasm consistency, and higher relationship satisfaction. The big gender difference is that in sex clinics, the most common problem women report is low desire which has been going on for 40 years and watching pornography could be one of the ways to spark drive.
Sex Research on Trauma Healing and Sexual Reframing
PTSD is affective dampening, which is when a person shuts their emotions off because of the fear that their traumatic experience will happen again. Through orgasm meditation, the idea is if there’s a way to get victims to have intense emotional experiences that are safe where they can start to experience feelings of intensity again in a way that isn’t frightening so they can do exposures. This allows them to feel high intensity but a positive, pleasurable thing which can make their affective range broaden out again. CPT is one of the most common form of therapies for PTSD victims. Dr.

Episode Run Time: 1:11:36
Our guest is Johann Hari, writer, journalist, and author of “Chasing the Scream”, “Lost Connections”, and his most recent one entitled “Stolen Focus”. We talk about our waning attention spans and how this is affecting our children, how his trip to Provence Town changed (or didn’t change) his life, and how Google is stealing our attention.

01:09:12 Where to Find Johann
“Your attention didn’t collapse. It was stolen.”
Johann tells the story of his godson Adam who, once was a curious, precocious child obsessed with Elvis Presley, now has become glued to his phone, and won’t stop checking Snapchat. There is an ongoing crisis right now with children with short attention spans, are not independent, and are being locked away at home in fear of their safety or of kidnappings which in turn stunts their social skills and ability to think on their own, even before the pandemic started. This led to Johann advocating for Lenore Skenazy’s LetGrow.org non-profit where she promotes “free-range kids” who can do things on their own, like take the subway alone. According to psychologist Steven Pinker who wrote a book called “Better Angels”, violence has declined over the past few decades which Johann agrees with in helping create more independent children.
Burnout and Our Collective Responsibility Against Social Media
We’ve been getting our sense of fulfillment externally on social media, which harms our ability to focus. Johann went to MIT to interview Professor Earl K. Miller who explains that the human brain can only consciously think about one or two things at the same time. We’ve fallen into a collective delusion where we can do more one thing at once leading to a culture of overworking and burnout, also called the switch-cost effect. Hewlett-Packard did an experiment between two working groups in the company and saw that the group that had been uninterrupted by calls and e-mails scored 10 IQ points higher. In France, a phenomenon called “Le Burnout” let to the government implementing a legal right to disconnect. Tristan Harris of Google was shocked by the addicting effects they built within Gmail and together with Aza Raskin formed Center for Humane Technology. Just like the moms who banned lead in paint, we can collectively fight against the ongoing phenomenon of our losing focus by not banning Google and Facebook, but by having an individual and collective responsibility to find the root of the problem and challenge these ideas and concepts of the way we work in our hyper productive world.

#58 Adrian Grenier- The Divine Masculine/Feminine, Climate Change, and Crypto
Chatting with Candice Adrian Grenier
Episode Run Time: 1:10:14
My first in-person guest is Adrian Grenier, actor, philanthropist, host of his YouTube channel “Earth Speed”, and owner of DuContra Ventures. He shares his life after being an actor in the limelight, how he decided to create his own environmentally-sustainable community, and his plans for the future to combat climate change in his own way.

01:03:33 Earth Speed, Hay Bale Urinal, and Homesteads
01:09:03 Where to Find Adrian Grenier
Adrian Finding His Authenticity
It took Adrian more than two years to shed his ego identity like vanity and indulgences during his time as an actor. He rebuilt a new life as a “farmer”, which he still doesn’t feel like he truly is, but is in constant pursuit of growing food and working in harmony with nature. He found authenticity by keeping his feet on the ground and accepting that he doesn’t know and that’s okay, which in turn awakened his curiosity.
Divine and Toxic Masculinity
Adrian grew up with a single mother whom he believed took on traditionally masculine traits through a female perspective that didn’t trust men. She didn’t have any positive male role models in her life and taught Adrian that she could be both a mother and father. This led to Adrian internalize his mother’s relationship with men and became emasculated, feminized, and not be in touch with his masculinity. He then sought negative expressions of masculinity: fame fortune, dominance, and ego that ended up being destructive. He had to relearn what it meant to be a man by unlearning what his mother taught him. Culturally, he believes people are relearning those roles and how best to show up for each other as men and women.
Decentralization of the Food Industry, Climate Change, and Cryptocurrency
Adrian is looking into an ethical and spiritual perspective which will serve as the foundation for his farm and was inspired by decentralization: creating communities and utilizing currencies such as bitcoin and cryptocurrency that is self-sufficient and not controlled by centralized governments and banking systems which can network out to similar communities. In combatting climate change on a smaller scale, he aims to produce an ecosystem that’s created in harmony with itself and has no waste unused, compared to a factory farm that produces waste that only ends up in a landfill. What happens with factory farms and monocropping is once it reaches a certain scale, disease starts to be introduced to a degree that the environment can’t handle. With that, Adrian discusses his future project—a hay bale urinal that turns human waste into compost for land.

#42 Benjamin Boyce (@Benjamin A Boyce )
Chatting with Candice
Benjamin Boyce
Episode Run Time: 01:58:16
Benjamin Boyce is the host of the Boyce of Reason podcast. He is most known for being a vocal critic of the Evergreen protests, having witnessed it firsthand as a student. His in-depth documentary and series of videos expose the chaotic behaviors that took place during the week-long incident in 2017. The event has been a result of the Evergreen College’s over emphasis on inclusivity and equality. In its attempt to promote progressive values, it has inadvertently fostered a cult-like mindset that demands conformity at all costs. In this episode, I talk to Benjamin about his experience during the Evergreen protests, the future of higher education, and the dangers of wokeism and cancel culture.
[00:02:49] Benjamin’s experience during the Evergreen protests[00:14:20] Universities instill a new morality with no room for criticism[00:21:17] Students’ experience, activism, and fragile psychology[00:30:35] Human desire for religion and community[00:41:05] Determinism creates an infinite loop of shame and scapegoating[00:46:26] Love is a more powerful force that unites[00:52:50] Displacing the individual’s locus of control[00:55:30] Focus on the content of character[01:05:15] Activism culture attracts traumatized individuals[01:11:01] Verification of reality through an external criteria [01:16:06] Does the soul have a gender?[01:24:16] The disconnect between information and reality[01:37:04] Honesty through the separation of facts and opinions [01:42:42] Being attuned to your spirituality and religion[01:46:55] Let genuine curiosity drive the conversation[01:50:56] Cancel culture and people’s capacity to change
Evergreen State College attracted national attention for the student protests that took place on campus in 2017. The controversy revolved around the school’s decades-long tradition of “Day of Absence”. On the day of the event, students and faculty of color would be absent from the campus so that their contributions may be highlighted. The following day is called “Day of Presence” where everyone returns to the campus to celebrate diversity.
With Trump sworn into office at the start of 2017, minority groups felt unsafe in the new political climate. As a response, Evergreen State College decided to reverse the Day of Absence by inviting white people to leave the school. Bret Weinstein, a professor at Evergreen at the time, expressed in an e-mail that he was against this change. His e-mail was leaked to the public, which was a major catalyst for the demonstrations.
Students protested against Bret Weinstein and called for more inclusivity and equality in the institution. Activists took things too far by seizing hostages and attacking the police force. Benjamin recalls a struggle session during the week-long campaign. He narrates that white students were berated for their race and were not allowed to speak. Seminars and workshops like these were not uncommon since a new president was appointed for Evergreen State College in 2015. With the institution’s support, student activist groups were given power around issues of race.
For Benjamin, the workshops felt dogmatic and ritualistic. White participants were required to acknowledge and to apologize for their race which automatically makes them complicit in systems of oppression. There’s an indoctrination of new narratives and values. Any argument or criticism would be shut down through the use of specific rhetoric maneuvers.
In a sense, colleges have returned to their original function of being an extended arm of religion. Higher education is programming students to adapt to the new religion of wokeism. But this new ideology is not just perpetuated through education, but also through corporations, social media, and community groups. Once this new religion is accepted, all dissent is purged against it. Blind allegiance to these new values can be dangerous, as it encourages a hive mentality.
In this new religion, there is only shame and scapegoating. It demands acknowledgement of past sins but there seems to be no redemption. Instead of apologizing for immutable characteristics like gender and race, there should be a focus on an individual’s character. In born traits shouldn’t be the defining qualities of a person. By looking at our differences, it’s harder to get to a place of love.

#41 Eliza Bleu- Human Trafficking Survivor and Advocate
The United Nations quotes human trafficking as the hidden figure of crime, with estimates showing that only 0.04% of survivors of human trafficking cases are identified. Our guest for today, Eliza Bleu, is one such survivor who miraculously survived a tragic case of human trafficking right here in the US. As a 17-year-old minor, Eliza moved to LA with big dreams of becoming a star. Forty-eight hours later, the man who promised her heaven on earth sold her to another man for a mere $500. Today Eliza is an advocate combating human, sex, and child trafficking, an industry worth $150 billion. In this episode, Eliza and I discuss facts and figures around human trafficking, detecting child sexual abuse material online, and the Stockholm syndrome in human trafficking.

Facts About Human Trafficking
According to the United Nations, human trafficking is when a person is recruited or abducted by threat or force to be exploited, mostly for sex or labor. For the most part, human trafficking is only comparable to modern-day slavery. Sadly, there are more 'slaves' today than there were at the height of slavery itself. They don't come out and ask for help, but they are there; you just don't get to see them. The US State Department estimates there are 24.9 million human trafficking victims worldwide. The problem is, when most people hear the words 'sex trafficking', they automatically assume that it's women and children from overseas who are being forced into sex enslavement. Never will Americans believe that Americans are being trafficked by other Americans.
Stockholm Syndrome and Sex Trafficking
Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response to captivity and abuse where victims develop an attachment with their abusers or captors. Although it's not yet known what prompts this response formation, experts believe it may serve as a coping mechanism for people experiencing trauma. Other than high-profile kidnappings and hostage situations, people living with an abusive partner perfectly sum up this narrative. It's easy to judge them for staying around for the next one-sided boxing match, but it would be best if you empathize with their situation.
But why do victims find it so difficult to leave? Most sex trafficking victims face an immediate threat to their survival and believe that their abuser is willing and able to carry out the said threat. For others like Eliza, it was a little bit subtle-- emotional abuse. There wasn't any threat to survival at the beginning of the relationship, but once she developed a bond, it was too late. No matter their current circumstances, victims will always be dependent on the abuser. And that's why Eliza returned to the human trafficking world even after enjoying freedom for a while.
Are Social Networks to Blame for Online Sexual Exploitation?
Social networks have been reluctant to censor posts about conspiracy theories, fake news, and online child sexual exploitation. The sad reality is that they sometimes profit from non-consensual content. A great example is a recent accusation where Pornhub was forced to remove over 10 million videos that included videos of child abuse and non-consensual sexual acts from their porn archive. Although amendments have been made to try and censor digital content, digital platforms benefit from Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act that grants them immunity from liabilities related to third-party content.
Online sexual exploitation often includes live streaming, grooming, consuming child sexual abuse material, blackmailing children for sexual purposes.
