Paul's Obligation of Service in Romans 1:14
I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.
Romans 1:14 ESV
The world is chaos and our assignment is to bring spiritual order by restoring people to their Creator. When God gives you a task, he necessarily gives you the authority required to carry out that task. Always keep in mind that such authority is never inherent in the person and that it is always given for the benefit of the Kingdom of God and its citizens.

Invest God's Resources Wisely - Proverbs 28:19
Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.
Proverbs 28:19 ESV
Whatever God has put into your hands, make it prosper. Focus your efforts on those things that will bring the most important returns first and then on those that bring the greatest returns.

The Man of Chesed in Proverbs19:22
What is desired in a man is steadfast love, and a poor man is better than a liar.
Proverbs 19:22 ESV
The Hebrew word translated "steadfast love" in this verse is chesed, which implies so much more than mere affection. Whether you're looking for a friend, a husband, or an employee, look for a man with chesed.

Proverbs 12 - Know Who's Listening!
Proverbs, especially chapter 12, has a lot to say about when to speak and when not to speak and to whom. Even people with the best of intentions have evil in their hearts and will use the most innocent words against you.

Jesus Will Open Your Eyes if You Let Him - Matthew 20:29-34
When the crowd on the road from Jericho tried to quiet the two blind men who begged Yeshua to open their eyes, they demonstrated that they were even more blind themselves. Yeshua will open your eyes if you let him, but he will also let you hold onto your blindness despite your pleas if you refuse to see what he shows you.
The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” And stopping, Jesus called them and said, “What do you want me to do for you?” They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.” And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.

Proverbs 5:5-6 and the Forbidden Teacher
Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path to Sheol; she does not ponder the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it.
Proverbs 5:5-6
In context, this passage is talking about an adulterous woman, but the principle applies more broadly. Many people whose feet are leading them down a destructive path believe that they are doing right. The problem is that they are trusting in their own innate sense of right and wrong, when the advice of our own hearts is always be tainted by an evil inclination. We need an external, objective standard to keep our consciences in line.

Introducing the Common Sense Bible Study Community
I created the Common Sense Bible Study community to help believers in Jesus from all different backgrounds who want to study the Bible and learn to keep God's commandments cut through the fog of sensationalism and
If you're like me, there was a point in time when you looked at what your church was teaching and asked "Where is that in the Bible?" The Bible says to do this, so why don't we do this? The Bible says not to do that, so why do we do that?
There is so much confusion and abuse and bitterness that it becomes hard to focus on what's really important. What did Yeshua of Nazareth do and how can I do the same?
You don't need a PhD in Biblical studies to understand the Bible. You need a humble heart, willing to test every doctrine against Scripture and to admit when you've been wrong. You need to be suspicious of sensationalism. And you need to focus on Yeshua, how did he keep the commandments.
At Common Sense Bible Study I want to help you cut through the theological fog and learn to study the Bible and keep God's commandments for yourself.
Join the Common Sense Bible Study community at https://commonsensebiblestudy.com and we'll explore the Scriptures together.

Job, the Laborer, and the Sojourner (Job 31:31-32)
Job didn't run a public welfare system--he wasn't handing cash out to people who refused to work--but he still used God's blessings to bless the people around him. He paid his employees generously and sheltered the homeless in his own town.

The Book of the Genesis of Jesus
The Gospel of Matthew begins with a clear reference to Genesis 5, but you can only see it in the Greek. One of the lessons we can derive from these two genealogies is that God knew we would fail from the very beginning and he planned for our redemption, telling us all about it through his interaction with mankind in history.
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Matthew 1:1
This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.

Of Whom Should We Be Afraid?
The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is safe.
Proverbs 29:25
People can hurt you. If you don't fear the consequences of offending people, you could lose your job, your family, even your life, but this is a trap. There is more to your existence than your job and your physical body. There are much greater consequences for being faithless to God, like losing eternity. On the other hand, if you trust in God and stand up for what's right, even when the immediate consequences could be severe, the long term rewards are far greater than anything you might lose.

Inheritance on the East Side of the Jordan
Joshua chapter 13 describes the inheritance of Gad, Reuben, and the half tribe of Manasseh east of the Jordan. God's original plan appeared to have been that all twelve tribes would inherit land on the west side of the Jordan. Was this really okay that they took land on the east side?
