Also the smaller blood stripes run from the bottom right of his face - this means that this blood ran over his face in exactly the position he is lying right now. So he got the injury RIGHT BEFORE he fell down like this and then the blood started flowing. This is a reconstruction of how this man died: 1) first this man was sitting upright; 2) then he got shot in his right eye; 3) he fell to his left side and then backwards; 4) blood ran from his eye over his head; 5) there is fresh blood on the ground. And the unnatural position other killed man on this video is in. It means that he DIED RIGHT THERE. He did not die in battle and than they dragged his body to this location. He died HERE. In this video we can see one of POWs still moving, meaning that at THAT moment he was still alive. The blood next to him is VERY fresh. Later he can be seen among the 4 dead soldier and he can be recognized by his pants. It means he was bleeding to death ON THIS SPOT and there is a bullet hole behind him on the wall. Other POW seems to have been hit by the back of a gun on his head - the imprint on his head is too regular to be a normal scratch. It is clearly an imprint of an object. Conclusion: The Ukrainian checkpoint south of Krasnyi Partizan seems to have been taken by surprise, with 12 soldiers surrendering. They had been put sitting against the wall of the house that they used to shelter. Five of them have been shot with four of them getting killed on the spot. One of the soldiers involved with this crime filmed the scene after it had happened WHILE some of them were dying. What happened to the wounded and still living POWs is unclear. Sometimes they kill some to have to others obey them without problems. They may use them to work for them digging graves and trenches as has been the case before. Footage and interviews from Ukraine front lines. Despite a ceasefire brokered in Minsk between Russia and Ukraine and the pulling back of heavy artillery on both sides, warfare doesn't stop in eastern Ukraine. Russian proxies and regular army continue shelling at Ukrainian forces' positions on daily basis. In the meantime, UA president Poroshenko announced UA volunteer battalions withdrawal from the front lines in eastern Ukraine. Soldiers of the regular UA army fear this decision will turn to many death among UA soldiers that remain to serve there: "The enemy is strong and UA must ensure even stronger defense instead of withdrawal". The following three stories aim to highlight: 1) Who is really supports UA army; 2) What challenges UA soldiers face on the front lines; 3) Why UA soldiers think UA president Poroshenko's decision on "withdrawal" from the front lines is wrong We have heard and read a lot about volunteers providing food, medical supplies, and other essentials for the Ukrainian soldiers at the front. At the same time the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and government officials have claimed that the government is doing its job in supplying the soldiers with everything they need. EMPR has decided to see for ourselves how things stand in regard to how well the soldiers in the battle zone in eastern Ukraine are being taken care of. In our search for the truth and to bring our readers a firsthand account our correspondent spent two days with a volunteer group in the Donetsk oblast. We want to share with our readers the remarkable, unique system the volunteers have worked out to provide aid to the patriots of Ukraine who with their strength of spirit, desire for justice and often with their own lives are defending our land from the Russian invaders. Meet the charitable organization "Mother's Watch" in Kyiv. Here volunteers collect aid for the Ukrainian soldiers. Here protective camouflage nets are made, bread and cakes and meat pies are baked, stuffed dumplings and meat balls are cooked, and soup and borshch ingredients are dehydrated. This is where our journey accompanying the volunteers from the "Association of Ukrainian Veterans of Afghanistan" begins. The group of veterans delivers the goods to the soldiers at the front. We leave Kyiv at night and by morning we arrive in Donetsk oblast. Our first stop is a small village where 11 divisions of a mechanized infantry battalion are based. Here we leave half of the goods. The battalion has been here for three months already. They are tired. And waiting for their rotation to end. Next we're off to the see the "Right Sector." Story #1 Music is in the air as volunteers from the organization "Mother's Watch" weave camouflage nets for the soldiers and sing their hearts out. Soon the vans arrive. Food, water, and other essentials are loaded into the vans. By the next morning the vans are at the front. They are unloaded and the goods are distributed among the soldiers. The soldiers tell us that if the volunteers did not bring them the supplies they need the army would not be able to keep going for more than two weeks. Story #2 The soldiers of the Ukrainian Army share with the volunteers all the ceasefire violations the opponent has committed, the problems within the army, and their thoughts on how and by whom Ukraine could be helped in the war against Russian aggression. Story #3 In February, 2015, Andrei Hrachev, a combat doctor with the 93 Battalion together with other soldiers addressed an appeal to the President of Ukraine in which they called on the president to bring order to the country, to get rid of corruption, and to fulfill the pre-election promises. The appeal was full of obscene language but it hit record highs in popularity. Andrei Hrachev became an Internet star. In March, 2015 Petro Poroshenko issued an order that the volunteer battalions Right Sector and OUN must either become a part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or leave the battle zone. Here is Andrei Hrachev's response to the President's order. In their propaganda Russia takes advantage of the phenomenon. They say that back when we were part of the Soviet Union we had cheap goods and life was better. Empires are created and then they fall apart. Countries that are founded on the idea of nationhood live and thrive. That's just what I think. If only it could happen quickly but we understand that it is a painstaking process. If only corruption would vanish, if only our society was more developed and more decent. If only. I wish there was no crime. I wish the brightest, the best future for our children and grandchildren, the best in the world. I believe we will achieve that. Because look at what our people are capable of - it was they who have revitalized the army, it is thanks to the volunteers that the army has been able to stand up to the enemy. It is the volunteers who are still helping to fix and rebuild our military machinery; it is you who are equipping, dressing, and feeding us. It all comes from the goodness of people. So today's army really is a people's army. And attitudes - when I was wounded I saw so many people coming to my aid. It was never like this. I do think that what we are going through will ultimately forge a stronger people and a strong nation out of us. For sure! We do hope so. Glory to Ukraine! I was there at Hora Karachun, then in the summer, I fought for a second time with the 11th Battalion in Debaltseve, Cherunkhino, Nikishino, Fashchivka. My third time was at Donetsk airport. Now a ceasefire agreement has been reached along with an agreement to move the heavy equipment away from the front line. I can tell you that last night apart from the sniper attacks I was shot at from a tank and from an antitank installation which to tell you the truth I don't think are allowed under the agreement. Those are very high caliber weapons and they are used against heavy equipment. Me and my buddies were shot at. Last night. And there were ten attacks. And as far as history is concerned. Vladimir Putin hasn't come up with anything new. Back when statehood was being established in Ukraine a Kharkiv People's Republic sprang up and other such republics as Lenin gained power, and when he took control of Ukraine he appointed several leaders who then organized big gangs all over Ukraine and created more similar republics. Those areas were then milked dry, the people were done away with, and then Lenin had those leaders removed. This is what is happening in Ukraine today. Ukraine is being ripped apart into small fiefdoms for better control. That's it." "Is it your view that Europe and the United States aren't helping enough?" "I think we can win but not with Europe's help. Europe is scared. If Europe wanted to help, if it really wanted to, still, the powerful countries are part of NATO and they all understand perfectly well that if Russia were to do something NATO would most likely... For us to have good weaponry, for us to have decent uniforms for those soldiers who are serving and through superhuman efforts are holding the borders, we need aid. America should provide that aid. Maybe it's time that our Ukrainian women understood that it is high time to say to your friends, acquaintances, husbands: listen, who are you? Are you cowards or are you men? Get off your buns, let's go, let's stand together as a hundred-thousand-man force and I assure you that those savages will shit their pants, I guarantee it." A soldier of the Right Sector chimes in, "Sitting at home drinking beer waiting for the draft notice, enough of that." Andrei - "I agree a hundred percent. Here is where the men should be, this is where the real men are. And our friends the volunteers. Without them, we wouldn't, we couldn't, they are a part of us, we are one whole unit. We would be nowhere without them...So, Mr. President...Not a good idea to withdraw the Right Sector. Or to try to do that. Not a good idea." Date: September 29, 2014 Location: Kharkiv, Ukraine Length: 11:22 Background 390 Lenins have been taken down across Ukraine in the last 10 months. Story In 1956, on the 300th anniversary of the City of Kharkiv, the cornerstone was laid in the center of the round part of what was then called Dzerzhinsky Square, today Ploshcha Svobody at a celebratory rally. The monument itself was only unveiled on November 5, 1963 on the 46th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. On this memorable soviet date, an official wreath-laying ceremony was held at the feet of the Great Leader. When Ukraine became independent, calls to remove the monument to Lenin, a symbol of totalitarianism, from the city’s center began to circulate. But for a long time the idea had little support among Kharkiv residents. But on September 28, 2014, Ukraine’s largest monument to the “leader of the proletariat,” standing more than 20 meters high, came down. It all started with a march down vulytsia Sumska. At around 19:00 that evening, the march arrived at Ploshcha Svobody, near the Lenin monument. Some demonstrators climbed onto the pedestal and used a grinder to carve out the words “Slava Ukrayini,” meaning “Glory to Ukraine,” into the granite. Then somebody decided to use the tool to carve up Lenin’s legs. The police did not get in the way of the activists who obviously intended to take the statue down. To speed up the demolition, the monument was wrapped in cables. The crowd began to pull on the 20-meter statue. But nothing happened. The activists tried a few more times to pull Lenin down off his pedestal. But it was 22:25 before the massive monument began to give way. The crowd then threw itself on the fallen Lenin and began to cut the sculpture to pieces. Today, there is no trace of the monument on Ploshcha Svobody. Freedom Square contains only the pedestal on which Lenin’s shoes can still be seen. The people of Kharkiv have gathered on their main square to say what they think of this event. The statue falls to the ground and people rush towards it, rejoicing. The crowd chants “Ukraine Ukraine!!” SOUNDBITE 1 Marharita Vasylieva “Our opinion is that this was banditry. How can you go and knock down the best monument in Europe/ Whom was he bothering? The beauty of Kharkiv? This was banditry and it was taken down by the bandits who came to power. We’re absolutely against this. If we were young, we would defend our Ukraine, but not the bandits. We’re against bandits.” Journalist: Tell me, what’s going on there now? Marharita Vasylieva “They’re washing it, but you can see for yourself that they scratched ‘Slava Ukrayini’ on it, it’s all scratched up, but the tryzub [trident] is being washed off.” Journalist: You don’t know who’s washing it down? Marharita Vasylieva “Some young people. Two young guys with foreign faces, they’re dark. We’re standing pretty far away and it’s hard to see. We’re crying, we’re in mourning.” SOUNDBITE 2 Sasha “For these pensioners, these communists, Lenin is their leader, their idol. But I have to live in this country. Of course it’s a shame for them,, but when they die, I don’t plan to live my life under these symbols or under this idol who killed the Ukrainian people. I have different ideals. The flag of Ukraine is in my heart, while their hearts have the flag of Russia. We’re from different countries. They’re from the Soviet Union and I’m from Ukraine.” SOUNDBITE 3 Anatoliy Petrovych “Well, I think evolution led to this situation. The situation brought about an evolutionary process. It had to happen sooner or later.” Journalist: How about you, are you for or against knocking down the monument? Anatoliy Petrovych “Well, if this monument represented the solidarity of the Ukrainian nation, I’d have been against demolishing it, but because it actually represents discord in our country... well, you can draw your own conclusions.” SOUNDBITE 4 Oleksiy Vasyliovych “I think this is the real face of the government today—barbaric. Journalist: Tell me, what’s the square like today, without Lenin? Oleksiy Vasyliovych “Ah, not to worry, it’ll be replaced. This is barbaric. When somebody takes something down, those in power are at fault. It’s a real shame.” Journalist: Tell me, why is all this happening anyway? Oleksiy Vasyliovych “I don’t get you. It’s barbaric, do you understand? They want to piss people off, so that we start attacking each other.”

Date: September 20, 2014 Location: Kiev, Ukraine Length: 6:06 Residents of Ukraine are facing the danger of living in the cold during this coming winter. The threat of the gas supply being cut off brought panic among Kievians. The prices for electrical boilers jumped ten-fold due to the increase in demand. Heating of dwellings depends on the supply (including from Russia) of the natural gas, which is used for heating and hot water. In view of the devaluation of the national currency, pension payment delay and lack of jobs, many families cannot afford another big expense. This video was filmed in Solomenka, one of the old districts of Kyiv, a neighborhood with a low quality of life, inhabited mostly by working class, state workers and many retired. The district is dominated with the blocks of Khrushchev and Brezhnev from 60s and 70s with outdated infrastructure. Obviously, the multi billion loans by World Bank and IMF provided to Ukraine at the EU taxpayers’ expense were not used for updating those infrastructure facilities. Current situation requires changes to enable electrical heating, however, current power allowance will not sustain simultaneous use of electric heating by the residents. SOUNDBITE 1 “At present, our family uses an electrical kettle or we heat the water on the gas hob. However, if we install the electric boiler we will have to pay significantly more for the electricity. It would be a big hit on the family budget. We cannot pay more that we pay now, says the woman. Furthermore, when all the residents rely exclusively on electricity the system can get overloaded and not only will they be unable to use an electrical kettle, but electrical heaters either.” Story #2 A woman with a stroller in the street The woman in the street is seriously considering spending winter out of town, where wood/coal heating is available and the electricity prices are one and a half times lower compared to those in the Capital. She mentions the price of the boiler being over 5,000 UAH, plus the cost of installation. This amount equals to her salary for two months or a retiree pension for half a year. SOUNDBITE 2 “Naturally, I am against gas and the hot water cut off. Maximum that we can do is to insulate our windows, exactly what we’ve done. I am not letting us get cold in the winter, we will fight the cold. We will either use the electric heaters or, maybe, we will have to leave the city and stay with relatives in the country. This would be possible if the winter break will be longer than usual. We certainly will get a boiler installed at home because we are a family of four. Journalist: did you research already the availability and the price of boilers? Last time we inquired about the price in the summer, when we were carrying out a refurbishment. It was expensive even then: around 5-6,000UAH. Scary to think how much they may cost now.” Story #3 A woman in the street The woman in the street tells about the cooperation between the residents, that many make a joint decision to install gas and water meters and are trying to come up with the best financial solution. Many insulate windows and walls. Residents do not believe that gas storages can be filled in quantities sufficient for the winter. People do not trust authorities and the new mayor of Kyiv, world boxing champion, Vitaly Klichko. SOUNDBITE 3 “The fact that there is no hot water in the whole city is incredibly inconvenient, so what maintenance companies do to improve the situation? They blame the water supply authorities. The water supply authorities blame electricity suppliers. As for us, we have no idea who is really responsible. As a result there is not hot water, however the gas prices went up and we have to pay for both, the gas we use to heat the water and for the hot water we do not receive. As a result, we are paying twice. Our residents are very unhappy with that. We had to buy plenty of synthetic foam to insulate the walls. What else can we say? When it comes to the electrical heater, the energy consumption is not their main downside, rather drying the air and burning the oxygen are. Especially this is noticeable in connection with my little granddaughter, whose skinis getting very dry when the electric heaters are in use. I borrowed such a heater a few days ago and returned it. Do not want to use those.” Story #4 Two aged women, sitting on the bench. Nevertheless, not all Ukrainians complain, many are prepared to face the hardship, as they understand that the country is at war. And living in cold is the lesser evil than being bombed by the Russian Army. That’s what the aged ladies are talking about sitting on the bench near the apartment block they live in. SOUNDBITE 4 “Cold winter is better than the war. Peace is the most important thing. One can survive the winter, but hot water and radiators will be of little use against shelling. That is it. If there is electricity one can turn the heater on, if not – we will have to rely on warm duvets, coats and hats. I want to stress once again: I am not afraid of the cold. But I am very much afraid of the war. I am afraid that they will shoot and we don’t know where to hide. We have nowhere to run. That’s why all we can do is sit here and wait.”
