Artist paints detailed portraits using fire

For the past 14 years Steve Spazuk has developed a unique painting technique that allows him to create artwork using trails of soot, which stem from the flame of a candle or torch. He often doesn’t know what images he intends to make, and the creation process always has an element of random spontaneity. Check out 'Steve Spazuk' for more of his work. Directed by Patrick Peris (@PatPeris).

These Portraits Of Fallen Heroes Are Healing Hearts

There may be no right answer on how to grieve a loved one, but Michael G. Reagan has found a way to help. Michael Reagan is a portrait artist and a Vietnam veteran. 13 years ago he started drawing portraits of the fallen heroes from the war against terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan and has been healing hearts ever since. After coming back from the Vietnam war, Michael decided to go to art school. At the same time, he was involved with drawing celebrities' portraits at a dinner theatre in Seattle until it went out of business. After it closed, celebrities still contacted him for portraits. While Michael was drawing the portraits, he would get them to autograph blank illustration boards, which he'd later redraw their portraits on, sell, and donate the money to different charities around the country. Fun fact: Michael has even drawn the portraits of President Ronald Reagan and President Bush and his first lady! A year later, his story and portraits wound up on NBC News. One unlikely call from a grateful widow who received a portrait of her late husband, confirmed Michael's decision to draw portraits of fallen heroes, free of charge to anyone who needs them. Michael is doing great work for the families of fallen heroes! Even he said, "The pictures are helping their hearts heal." Artist creates realistic portraits using hand sewn silk thread

Come on a studio tour with St. Louis-based figurative artist Cayce Zavaglia. Her work is all hand sewn using cotton and silk thread or crewel embroidery wool. From a distance they read as hyper-realistic paintings, and only after closer inspection does the work’s true construction reveal itself.
