5 Rescue Shelters That Are Finding Dogs Love And FURever Homes

We've met a lot of amazing organizations and non-profits over the years, especially ones that do amazing things to help shelter dogs, who are close to euthanasia, find love and forever homes. Some of these organizations are small and community based, while others cover a larger regional or national footprint. No matter their size, what they do to support these dogs is nothing short of inspirational. Today, HooplaHa would like to shine a spotlight on 5 very special groups that have made a tremendous difference in saving lives, giving love, and finding shelter dogs furever homes. 1) Snuggle Delivery Enlist the services of Snuggle Delivery! The Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, FL started a program where for a small donation to the organization, they will load up a van filled with adorably adoptable puppies to your office or work place for a few hours of cuddle time! 2) Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) The ACC is one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country, taking in more than 35,000 animals each year. They help all types of animals (cats, dogs, rabbits, reptiles, birds, and farm animals) with all types of needs (homeless, abandoned, injured or sick). ACC is the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit in NYC with this unique responsibility. 3) Rescue Road Trip There is an abundance of shelter dogs in the deep south. That's why Greg Mahle founded a transport service called Rescue Road Trip to relieve these unwanted dogs from their death sentence and ship them north to the arms of loving and eager canine owners. The trip starts on Tuesdays in Ohio, goes south of the Mason Dixon Line to retrieve the dogs and then circles back up north for joyful reunions later in the week. 4) Humane Society of Utah There is an abundance of shelter dogs in the deep south. 4) Humane Society of Utah Have you ever found it difficult to connect with a pet in a dog shelter? They are loud places where lots of animals are jumping, barking, and competing for your attention. That's why the Humane Society of Utah decided to give each dog its individual chance to shine in front of the lights of their staff photographer, Guinnever Shuster, to show off its unique personality. 5) Tracy's Dogs Tracy's Dogs is a not-for-profit National Rescue & Transport Initiative for shelter dogs. The focus of the program is to rescue and rehabilitate dogs with pending euthanasia dates residing in kill shelters with the hope of putting them up for adoption to find forever homes! The focus of the program is to rescue and rehabilitate dogs with pending euthanasia dates residing in kill shelters with the hope of putting them up for adoption to find forever homes! Sandra Cagan was a businesswoman in Orlando approaching her 50th birthday when she decided to combine her love of cats and her work experience to start a new venture, the Orlando Cat Café. As a lifelong cat fan, Sandra's main goal in opening the café was to help match kitties up for adoption with pet parents looking for a new friend. What she didn't realize at the time was that her coffee shop would help human visitors as much as the cats! At just 3 pounds, this therapy dog may be small, but he's on a big mission! His goal? To spread hope, smiles, and comfort to everyone he meets. Today, Norbert does lots of work at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles as a Pet Partner approved volunteer therapy dog. He also visits nursing homes, charity events, and beyond: anywhere where there are people in need of a smile. Wanting to adopt a dog, they decided on a senior dog named Susie. How A Senior Dog Named Susie Helped 1000’s Of Others Find A New Home!4m34s

How A Senior Dog Named Susie Helped 1000’s Of Others Find A New Home!

Against advice from her family and friends, Erin Stanton and her husband Brandon took a chance that not only changed their lives forever, but also the lives of thousands of others. Wanting to adopt a dog, they decided on a senior dog named Susie. For 5 years, Susie gave the family exactly what they were looking for - love, companionship, and amazing memories. Susie passed away on April 22, 2016, but her legacy lives on... After the loss of their senior dog Susie, the husband and wife duo started non-profit Susie's Senior Dogs, which helps place homeless senior dogs into their forever homes. With such a stigma around adopting dogs, especially senior shelter dogs who have shorter lives, it is hard for senior dogs to find reliable homes. Luckily, these senior dogs have Erin. Thanks to her past PR skills, she's now able to bring awareness to senior dogs through her social media accounts and her book "Susie's Senior Dogs." And thanks to her collaborative program, Susie's Senior Dogs she's able to help senior dogs get a new leash on life. Whoever said, "Blessed is the person who has earned the love of an old dog," truly understands the value of loving a senior dog. You may get less time with them, but that doesn't mean they give you any less love. Senior dogs are truly something special and they deserve just as much love as any other dog. "Older dogs are really great companions... bringing home a senior dog who needs a good home is so beautiful and such a special experience," says Susie's Senior Dogs founder Erin Stanton. By Nicole Pajer According to most veterinarians, a dog falls into the “senior” category around age seven. The size of a dog, however, affects this categorization. Smaller dogs mature slower and become seniors later in life than larger dogs. Animal shelters are filled with healthy and active senior dogs that are in need of a home. When you’re thinking about picking up a dog from your local shelter, don’t look past the older dogs. They make great pets for a number of reasons. Other Than Being Our Pets, Dogs Can Also Be Our Teachers1m57s

Other Than Being Our Pets, Dogs Can Also Be Our Teachers

This is a list of all the important life skills dogs teach us. When humans bring a dog into their lives, they are most often looking for a companion; what they may not realize is that they are getting a teacher as well. Every single day dogs teach us important life lessons about love, overcoming adversity and healing! Our dogs can teach us to be good listeners, because having someone to talk to is always a good thing. They teach us to exercise more often. Having a dog isn’t just good for the soul, it is also good for the body. They teach us to take some time for ourselves and to relax, because some down time is also good for the soul, especially if you share it with your furbuddy! A dog can teach you the sweet sensation of unconditional love. Just remember the eagerness they show every time you come back home! Our dogs teach us so many other valuable lessons, like sharing, overcoming obstacles, loyalty and heroism. They know not of prejudice and hate. But the best thing that dogs can teach us humans is something we often forget in life, and that is to enjoy it! Be present in the moment, because that is where we live, right here and now! This Music Video About Senior Dogs Will Melt Your Heart!

Mr. Mo Project teamed up with singer/songwriters Dan Tillery and David G. to write a happy and heartwarming song about senior dog adoption and HooplaHa-Only Good News was there to create a music video that will inspire dog lovers everywhere! The Mr. Mo Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit group started by Chris and Mariesa Hughes that has been responsible for saving countless shelter dogs nationwide since 2011. In honor of the life of their late and beloved senior dog Mr. Mo, the organization and the amazing Mr. Mo dog rescue community have saved over 200 senior dogs. As part of the program, the senior dogs' medical and veterinary costs are covered for life while in their forever foster home, which averages $25,000 a month. The program currently has 92 senior dogs in foster homes. Vicky Neville and her tender hearted bull dogs did not always have it easy. After years of heartache and enduring the loss of three bull dogs, recovering from divorce and witnessing the passing of her sister and soulmate, Vicky was admitted into inpatient care for her chronic depression... Chris & Mariesa's undeniable love for dogs led them to collaborate with singer/songwriter Dan Tillery and his producer Dave G. to tell the story of senior dogs and how they too need love, support, and a forever home! Chris & Mariesa Hughes met Dan Tillery through SHOW YOUR SOFT SIDE, a public service campaign that was created to change the mindset of young people who all-too-often view the maiming and torturing of defenseless cats and dogs as a sign of "toughness" or "manhood." The campaign's message that compassion towards animals is a strength, not a weakness, is one that struck a chord with young and old alike. Today, Show Your Soft Side, Inc. uses its reach and resources to build a better world for animals and, in doing so, build better adults. From this connection, Chris and Mariesa asked Dan, along with his producer/guitarist Dave G. to write Never Too Old To Love and HooplaHa – Only Good News to produce this very special music video. You can download the song Never Too Old To Love on Amazon or iTunes. The Music Video was Produced by HooplaHa – Only Good News. Executive Producers - Rob Hess & Chris Hughes Directed By - Varya Rootwood Director of Photography – Jorge Arzac Special thanks to the CaNine to 5, Clifton Park, NY. Life in the Dog House is an original HooplaHa series about Chris and Mariesa Hughes and their 9 rescue dogs: Meatball, Money, The Stig, Tejas, Quinn, Sammy, Mabel, Frank, and the only lady in the pack, a Pit Bull named Gremlin.

Cats And Coffee Could Be The Purrfect Combination Of Love And Affection!4m49s

Cats And Coffee Could Be The Purrfect Combination Of Love And Affection!

Cat cafés are popping up all over the United States, but this one is VERY unique. Based in Orlando, Florida, this Cat Café is both a cat adoption center and a coffee shop that donates all of its profits to charitable causes. When founder Sandra Cagan was turning 50, she realized she wanted to do something that made a difference in the world. "Follow your bliss and make a difference in the world...with 20 years of property management experience and a life-long love of cats. This is something I could do," says Sandra. The Orlando Cat Café opened it doors in 2015 and found the perfect partner in Axum Coffee, a business that also opened for a reason. In fact, Axum is named after a city in Ethiopia where there is no fresh water, inadequate medical care, 1000's of orphans on the streets, and 1000's of beggars who are old, blind or physically impaired in some way. "They have a similar mission in life, they're a very charitable company, and we clicked immediately," says Sandra. The Cat Café partners with Axum for their coffee and partners with the Animal League to get their kitties! This Florida-based no-kill shelter ensures the cats are up to date on their shots and vaccinations, are spayed or neutered, and micro chipped. What's extra special about the Cat Café is that the cats pick you! There are two cat adoption specialists who are always on hand to match the cats' personalities with their potential owners in the hope of finding each cat a forever home! The Cat Café is located in the Town Center at Cagan Crossings, 4 miles west of Disney's Animal Kingdom and has had thousands of visitors and has helped over 80 cats get adopted! Therapy Dogs Help Kids With Trauma Feel Calm Enough To Tell Their Stories3m19s

Therapy Dogs Help Kids With Trauma Feel Calm Enough To Tell Their Stories

The dogs of the K9th Circuit Program are the ultimate therapy dogs for kids in courtrooms. In 2014, Orlando, Florida created a community outreach program called Companions for Courage where dogs provide a sense of secruity to children testifying in court. "Think about how a child must feel. They have to face the person who has hurt them, they have to sit in front of a bunch of strangers and tell a really painful story, and most of the time they're not even with their family while they're testifying," said Joanne Rittenhouse, one of the dog handlers. "All the dogs make everyone calm; they have a good presence," she continued. Studies have shown that people are better able to recollect facts and provide more accurate information regarding traumatic events when they are calm. With the assistance of the dog teams, children and adults are able to relieve their anxiety about the underlying traumatic events and provide more precise testimonies in court proceedings. One very special therapy dog named Karl is one of 6 dogs in the K9 Circuit Program. He was born deaf, knows sign language, and is an amazing support to the kids. "Karl gave her the courage to go through with the trial. I couldn't even get her out of the car when we first started and towards the end she was getting out of the car just to go and see Karl," added dog handler Carol Feiner. As a part of the community outreach program, "Companions for Courage is about the victim and the dog. It's a bond, and a sense of security that the animal brings to the child – to give them the confidence and courage to face that scary place." "Children feel protected to have this dog by their side" said Joanne. Since the program started, the Companions for Courage have been involved in 23 cases. Companions for Courage is the approved Therapy Dog Provider for the 5th Judicial Circuit and Ninth Judicial Circuit Courts of Florida.

Who Will Save These Kittens? A Memory Clinic?

Did you know that new kittens need to be bottle fed every couple of hours? The problem is most shelters don't have the man-power to take care of all the kittens' needs! In order to solve this dilemma, the Pima Animal Care Center and Catalina Springs Memory Care Center are pairing up and both the kittens and the seniors are benefitting from it. The Pima Animal Care Center solely relies on the help of foster families to care for new kittens. So, when two kittens were abandoned at the Pima Animal Care Center, they needed some help. Thanks to Catalina Springs Memory Care and their senior residents, these kittens are now being well cared for and will be completely ready for their forever homes. The constant love and contact does not only benefit the kittens, but the seniors too. The Catalina Springs Memory Care center serves the needs of individuals with Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other forms of memory loss. The contact with the kittens helps residents remember specific memories from their childhood, which is not easy for the patients at the memory center.
