Amazing Living Sculptures

Theo Jansen has been creating these living sculptures since 1990
His sculptures are made of yellow plastic tubes that are powered by the wind
He has been able to build them more able to withstand the elements of nature as time has gone on
These “beasts” as he calls them are designed to move on the beach by taking the power of the wind
There are plastic bottles attached to bicycle pumps that will increase the air pressure in the bottle as the wind blows the sails on the beast
It takes about an hour until the pressure is full and the pumps move on their own
The leg system is designed to move like a wheel but with less surface area touching the sand at any point in time, reducing friction
