Elementary school principal arrested after being filmed assaulting child
An elementary school principal is facing multiple charges after he was caught on camera carrying out a vicious assault on a student. Dontay Prophet, principal of Destiny Leadership Academy in Ocala, Florida, was filmed on CCTV placing a young boy in chokehold, and whipping him with a charging cable. Prophet then twisted the boy’s ankle and slapped him in the face. The assault lasted around 40 minutes, until a teacher who heard screaming intervened.
Prophet had previously been charged with sexually abusing a child, when he worked at a camp in 2017, but was not convicted due to a technicality, raising questions about how he was able to become a school principal in the first place.
The school’s executive principal, Dr. Elvira Higgins, has not commented on Prophet’s appointment as principal, but the school confirmed that he has been fired, and that they have held a meeting with parents to discuss the incident.
Prophet is currently being held without bail, and is charged with aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment of a child under 13.
