According to court documents filed on Tuesday, the FBI’s confidential source, Alexander Smirnov, who was charged last week for allegedly providing false information about President Biden and Hunter Biden, implicated Russian involvement.

The government’s memorandum supporting Smirnov’s detention revealed that the 43-year-old admitted to the participation of “officials associated with Russian intelligence” in disseminating a story about Hunter Biden.

Prosecutors claimed that Smirnov informed an FBI handler that the Russian Intelligence Service intercepted cellphone calls at a hotel involving “prominent U.S. persons” potentially used as ‘kompromat’ in the 2024 election.

Special counsel David Weiss charged Smirnov with felony false statement and obstruction crimes related to the alleged false information about the Bidens, Axios reported.
