Urban Stealth Camping / Abandoned Prison Farm Ruins Stealth Camping
Urban Stealth Camp at The Abandoned Prison Farm Ruins:
(This was a nightmare to edit, Gopro footage wasn't uploading, editor kept crashing, files disappeared, voice lag, I almost gave up and deleted the video, but figured something was better than nothing).
Since the weather is unseasonably warm I decided to head over to the Old Abandoned Prison Farm Ruins for another Philly Urban Stealth Camp before years end.
There was 70 percent chance of rain in the forecast with a high of 57°F and a low of 40.
Crazy weather for the middle of December.
The winter solstice (shortest day of the year) is in 4 days, so I head over early to find a spot, setup and hopefully do a bit of exploring so I can get some decent footage before its too dark.
I park on Meetinghouse road and hike to the Poquessing Creek Trail then to the ruins to look for a good stealth spot to camp, with the thought of, "if it's easily accessible, then it's not stealthy", is that even a word? lol.
Back in my paintball days '95-'96, (mistakenly commented '94-'95 in the video), we would play outlaw paint ball around these ruins, we would park off of Tillman Drive before the construction beyond Tillman Drive started.
Before I set up camp, I briefly explore the ruins and was more fascinated with the graffiti than the ruins.
I find a spot and setup camp on the creek side of the Poquessing trail.
185' from the creek and 145' from the trail. I organize my gear and head back to the trail to do a bit more exploring of the area and ruins.
I follow the trail just pass the bend to Mechanicsville rd.
Then head back up to a bit past the ruins and spook a bunch of deer.
Then it's back to camp to process some firewood and cook dinner.
I like to bring fresh food to cook in the colder months when refrigeration isn't much of a concern, a frozen water bottle is more than enough to keep my vittles cold.
After an awesome Mushroom Swiss cheese bagel burger and mocha coffee I start a fire behind the tent and chill for a few hours.
Then it's time to pop on YouTube and watch an episode of Camping with Sam Bananas.
I was setup in a heavily trafficked area and hoping the morning rain will discourage potential hikers.
....Hopefully the rain will assist in my stealth camp.
I got a great night's sleep, minimal noise. I wake up a few times to the sound of rain, heavy at times.
In the morning it's still raining so I decide to cook breakfast in the vestibule. Breakfast and coffee was awesome.
The Amazon Distribution Center was hopping all night long.
Packing up was wet but not too bad.
